You can’t use YouTube’s ordinary video “Loop” control to make uploaded gaming footage repeat inside a YouTube Live broadcast. That control repeats a video for viewers watching it normally. A Live broadcast is a feed sent to YouTube from an encoder or supported console. To show gaming footage repeatedly as Live, you need a production setup that sends the repeated footage as the live feed.
Can I loop a YouTube video during a live stream?
YouTube documents separate controls for these two jobs. Its Loop or Repeat controls apply to ordinary video and playlist playback; YouTube Live receives a feed from an encoder or supported console. The reviewed YouTube Help documentation does not describe a native Live Control Room switch that loops an uploaded video into a live broadcast.
So first decide what you actually need: repeat playback of a video, or a Live event that viewers can watch and interact with while it is running. A playlist loop on the watch page does not turn that playback into a Live event. For prerecorded footage to appear in a Live event, the production workflow must send that footage to YouTube as a live feed.
Choose the workflow for your gaming footage

Prepare your channel before starting
Check that the channel can go live well before the planned broadcast. YouTube Help says the channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and meet the minimum age requirement of 16. YouTube also says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours.

- Open YouTube Studio and start the live-streaming setup for your channel. Follow the prompts to verify the channel and enable live streaming.
- Allow for the initial activation delay, which YouTube says can be up to 24 hours. Confirm that live streaming is available before scheduling or relying on the event.
- Choose an encoder workflow for PC gameplay or a supported console workflow if you are streaming directly from a console. For an encoder, create or select the stream in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
Connect an encoder and check the stream
For an encoder workflow, YouTube connects the encoder to the Live Control Room with a stream URL and stream key. Treat the stream key as private: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. YouTube recommends RTMPS for secure ingestion.
- In the Live Control Room, create or select the stream and locate its stream URL and stream key.
- In your encoder, enter the stream URL and key in the streaming or output settings. Labels vary by encoder, so use that encoder’s current instructions rather than assuming a particular menu name.
- Set the encoder’s video and audio output to suit your source and available upload capacity. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists current settings, bitrates, and resolutions; there is no single bitrate that suits every connection or stream quality.
- Start the encoder, then wait for the incoming feed to appear in the Live Control Room. Preview it before going live.
- Test representative gameplay movement and audio. Check that the picture is readable, the sound is present at a sensible level, and any intended repeated footage behaves as expected in the feed.
- While live, monitor stream health and confirm the event is accessible from the channel or watch page. YouTube recommends leaving upload-bandwidth headroom and testing the connection with the kind of content you plan to stream.
YouTube transcodes live feeds into multiple output formats for viewers on different devices and networks. Choose your source settings using YouTube’s current encoder guidance and your actual connection, rather than relying on a universal bitrate recipe.

End the broadcast cleanly
When the event is over, stop sending content from the encoder after the stream has stopped on YouTube. If you are recording a local archive, confirm that the recording is intact before closing or clearing the project. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend checking the event and its ending rather than assuming the encoder stopping and the YouTube event ending are the same action.
What viewers can do during the live stream
If DVR is enabled for the stream, YouTube says viewers can pause or rewind and then continue watching from where they paused. That is a viewer playback feature; it does not loop the creator’s source footage or restart the broadcast.

Copyright and channel-policy checks
Before broadcasting gaming footage, make sure you have the rights or permissions needed for the game footage, soundtrack, overlays, and any other material in the stream. A live feed does not make copyrighted material safe to use. YouTube’s reviewed documentation does not settle how a particular game publisher’s license or a specific automation tool will be treated; check the relevant rights and YouTube’s current policies for your content and channel.
