Open the stream’s Edit → Monetization settings, turn monetization on, and select Scheduled. YouTube does not document a separate scheduler for 24/7 streams, and a scheduled slot does not guarantee that an ad will run for every viewer.
Set a scheduled mid-roll interval
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live.
- Start a stream from the Stream tab, or schedule one from Manage.
- Open Edit → Monetization for the stream and make sure monetization is on.
- Choose Scheduled for the live ad setting, then select an interval: 6, 12, 18, 24, or 30 minutes. YouTube’s live monetization guidance describes these intervals in its live-stream monetization controls.
The interval is a configured cadence, not a promise that each viewer will see an ad at that exact point. YouTube states, “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” If no ad runs in an available slot, the viewer continues watching the stream.
Choose the ad mode that fits the program

YouTube cautions that scheduled or manual mid-rolls may have lower earnings potential than automatic mode; this is platform guidance, not a prediction of a particular channel’s revenue. See YouTube’s live monetization guidance for the mode descriptions.
Protect an important moment from automatic ads
In the Live Control Room, select Delay ads at the top right when you want to defer automatic mid-rolls. YouTube says this delays them for 10 minutes and displays a five-second countdown before ads resume. Manually placed mid-rolls still display during the delay, so this control does not suppress manual breaks. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream ad controls.

Eligible streams may show side-by-side mid-roll ads beside the live stream. YouTube says streams with captions turned on will not show side-by-side ads; eligibility and presentation can depend on YouTube’s controls. Check its live-stream monetization help for current details.
Check channel defaults and verify the stream
Monetized channels without rights management can set channel-level mid-roll defaults for future live streams. YouTube says channels with rights management do not currently have channel-level settings. A default does not remove the need to confirm the specific stream’s configuration: open its monetization controls before going live, especially if its settings differ from the channel default. YouTube’s published help does not describe a 24/7-specific ad scheduler, a special maximum duration, or distinct restart behavior. Treat the selected interval as the stream’s configured ad setting, and verify the controls in Studio because labels and interface details can change.
What to expect from ad delivery and revenue
An interval determines when an ad opportunity is configured, not whether an ad will fill that opportunity or when every viewer will receive one. Automatic delivery can vary by viewer, and some slots may not serve. That distinction matters on a continuous channel: a 12-minute schedule, for example, should not be presented to viewers or sponsors as a guaranteed ad every 12 minutes.

YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour for channels with live automatic mid-rolls enabled compared with channels without the feature, averaged across 207 countries. Troubleshooting common setup problems
- The scheduled interval options are missing: Confirm you are editing the live stream’s Monetization settings in Studio and that monetization is on. The documented scheduled choices are 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30 minutes.
- No ad appeared at the selected interval: A scheduled slot does not guarantee an ad. YouTube may leave the viewer watching the stream instead.
- Some viewers report different ad timing: That can happen, especially in automatic mode, where viewers may receive ads at different times.
- Ads interrupt an important segment: In automatic mode, use Delay ads in Live Control Room to defer automatic mid-rolls for 10 minutes. Remember that it does not suppress manually inserted breaks.
- A future stream does not use the expected default: Reopen that stream’s monetization settings and verify them directly. Channel-level defaults are not available to channels with rights management, according to YouTube.
Optional control for manual breaks
YouTube also documents inserting ads with an Elgato Stream Deck using the YouTube plugin. This is an optional control for manually triggering breaks, not a requirement for choosing a scheduled interval in Studio. Consult YouTube’s live-stream ad documentation for its current plugin reference.
