Not categorically yes or no. The YouTube policy pages reviewed do not specifically approve or ban a continuous 24/7 stream made from prerecorded videos. The format must still meet YouTube’s live-stream rules, you need the necessary rights to every element, and monetization is a separate question governed by channel-level originality and reused-content policies.
What YouTube’s rules establish—and what they don’t
YouTube requires live content to comply with its Community Guidelines and applicable terms. Its Live Stream Terms say creators must have the necessary rights for the live content, including relevant music rights. These general requirements apply whether footage was captured moments ago or earlier; they are not a format-specific ruling on nonstop prerecorded loops.
YouTube’s getting-started guidance describes live streams as real-time feeds and lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console methods. It does not say that content sent through an encoder must be captured live. That silence is not a guarantee that every continuous prerecorded format is permitted.
In practical terms, assess the stream across four separate questions: are you eligible to go live, does the content comply with YouTube’s rules, do you have the necessary rights, and is the channel eligible for monetization?

Check channel eligibility before planning the broadcast
YouTube’s current getting-started guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. The creator must be at least 16 years old, and live content must comply with the Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube may restrict an account’s ability to stream, so check the channel’s status in YouTube Studio before scheduling a long broadcast.
Clear rights for everything that will play
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another copyrighted live broadcast. If it detects a match, YouTube may show a warning, replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt or terminate the broadcast if the content remains, or terminate it after a copyright or Community Guidelines strike.

Before streaming, confirm that you have rights to the video, soundtrack, music, images, and any other material in the recording. A license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption: YouTube says creators using licensed third-party content should ask the rights owner to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist.
- Keep records of ownership, licenses, and any required permissions for every element in the playlist.
- If a rights owner licensed content to you, ask whether the channel must be allowlisted in Content ID to avoid claims interrupting the live stream.
- Do not assume that permission to use a work settles every policy question; monetization review is separate from copyright enforcement.
Permission to stream is not a promise of monetization
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams as well as Shorts and long-form videos. The reused-content policy applies to the channel as a whole and can affect monetization even when a creator has permission to use the material. YouTube looks for original, authentic content; material repurposed from YouTube or another online source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value may raise reused-content concerns.

The policy page’s July 15, 2025 clarification renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content” and describes repetitive or mass-produced content. That clarification does not amount to a blanket ban on every live loop, but a channel built around repetitive or minimally changed material may face a distinct monetization risk. YouTube states that “Our reused content policy applies to your channel as a whole.”
Plan for the 12-hour archive and DVR limits
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. A 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a reliable way to create a complete replay or offer viewers full rewind. These feature limits are separate from whether the broadcast complies with policy.

Practical preflight checklist
- Verify the channel and confirm there has been no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- Review the full playlist—not just the first video—for Community Guidelines and Terms compliance.
- Confirm the rights status of all footage, audio, and music, and arrange Content ID allowlisting where a rights owner requires it.
- Assess monetization independently: permission alone does not resolve whether the channel’s content is sufficiently original.
- Plan separately for the possibility that a stream longer than 12 hours will not be fully archived and may not provide full DVR.
Keeping a prerecorded YouTube stream running
If you operate the broadcast yourself, an encoder is one of YouTube’s listed ways to send a live stream. The encoder method does not by itself establish that a particular 24/7 prerecorded format complies with policy. Whatever method you use, the rights, content, and channel-eligibility checks above still apply.
Or let it run in the cloud
