Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCrashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a dependable YouTube stream from OBS, start with H.264, CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, RTMPS, and AAC audio. YouTube recommends 10 Mbps for 1080p30 or 6 Mbps for 720p30; those are platform recommendations, not guarantees for any particular Indian connection. Choose a bitrate your upload and encoder can sustain continuously, and test before going live.
Recommended OBS settings for YouTube Live
YouTube’s published encoder settings do not specify a separate bitrate for India. They are based on codec, resolution, and frame rate. The values below are YouTube recommendations, not a promise that your ISP, route to YouTube ingest, or computer can hold them without interruption. Check YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate table before launch, since platform recommendations can change.
| OBS setting | Starting choice | Context |
|---|---|---|
| Service and transport | YouTube via RTMPS | YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. |
| Video encoder | H.264 | A broadly compatible baseline. YouTube also lists H.265/HEVC and AV1; support depends on the encoder and hardware. |
| Rate control | CBR | Matches YouTube’s listed encoder guidance. |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds | YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds. |
| 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 | 10 Mbps recommended | YouTube’s published minimum is 5 Mbps. |
| 1080p at 60 fps, H.264 | 17 Mbps recommended | YouTube’s published minimum is 6 Mbps. |
| 720p at 30 fps, H.264 | 6 Mbps recommended | YouTube’s published minimum is 3 Mbps. |
| Audio | AAC, stereo at 128 Kbps | YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and recommends 128 Kbps for stereo. |
| SDR color | Rec. 709, 8-bit | Use the SDR guidance unless your production intentionally uses a supported HDR workflow. |
In OBS, these controls are generally under Settings > Output (set Output Mode to Advanced if needed), Settings > Video, and Settings > Audio. Labels can vary by OBS version and selected encoder. Choose the stream service and server in Settings > Stream, then use YouTube’s stream key without sharing it publicly.
What bitrate should I use for YouTube Live in India?
Use the YouTube recommendation as a target only if your measured, sustained upload can support it with headroom. For a constrained or variable connection, 720p30 at 6 Mbps is a reasonable lower-bandwidth starting point to test instead of 1080p30 at 10 Mbps. These numbers are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations, not India-specific settings or minimums that ensure a stable stream.

OBS’s connection troubleshooting advice offers 75% of total upload speed as a starting point when diagnosing bitrate-related connection limits. This is a troubleshooting heuristic, not a YouTube requirement or a stability guarantee. Congestion, other people or devices using the connection, the route to the ingest server, and encoder capacity all matter. Run a speed test on the actual connection you will stream from, then test the stream under representative conditions.
Choose resolution and frame rate for the content
- Mostly still video, ambience, documentary footage, or a talk format: 30 fps and a lower output resolution can be a more practical reliability choice than 60 fps.
- Fast movement or gameplay: 60 fps can make motion look smoother, but YouTube’s H.264 recommendation rises to 17 Mbps for 1080p60, compared with 10 Mbps for 1080p30.
- When in doubt: prioritize a bitrate and output your connection and encoder can sustain over a higher resolution that drops frames.
YouTube transcodes a live feed into viewer formats, so your ingest resolution and bitrate do not determine the only playback rendition viewers may receive.

Prepare the channel and OBS before the first broadcast
- Confirm channel eligibility. YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Review YouTube’s live-streaming setup requirements.
- Create or schedule the live stream in YouTube Studio. Open the stream’s Live Control Room and copy its stream key into OBS under Settings > Stream. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio.
- Set the output and video format. In OBS, select the codec and bitrate for your target resolution and frame rate. Set CBR and a 2-second keyframe interval; set audio to AAC, stereo at 128 Kbps, and use Rec. 709, 8-bit for SDR.
- Check upload and encoder headroom. Test the connection from the location and network you plan to use. Wired Ethernet is preferable when practical; OBS notes Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming.
- Run a private or unlisted preflight. Include audio and movement similar to the intended stream. Check OBS statistics and the Live Control Room preview and health messages before making the stream public.
- Verify local recording. If you need a backup or replay, confirm that OBS is writing a recording file and that the file grows and plays correctly.
Can OBS stream to YouTube 24/7?
OBS can send a continuous feed while the computer, encoder, and internet connection keep operating, but settings alone cannot guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast. A power interruption, computer or encoder failure, network outage, or YouTube ingest problem can stop it. Monitor stream health and test any backup setup rather than assuming it will take over correctly.
There is an important archive limitation: YouTube says a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. Streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but if preserving the full program matters, keep a local recording and plan session lengths with this limit in mind. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Plan for a 24/7 channel, not just a bitrate
- Use a stable wired connection when possible. OBS recommends Ethernet because Wi-Fi can be unstable.
- Keep the computer powered, prevent sleep, and ensure the encoder can run continuously without overheating or exhausting storage.
- Monitor OBS statistics and YouTube’s Live Control Room health messages during operation.
- If using YouTube’s backup or failover encoder workflow, test handover before depending on it. YouTube’s operational guidance describes stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable to test backup rollover.
Why does OBS drop frames on YouTube Live?
Dropped network frames usually mean the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. OBS recommends lowering bitrate as one troubleshooting step. Its stream connection troubleshooting guide also identifies networking hardware such as cables, routers, and network cards as possible fault points.
| What you see | Likely area to check | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| OBS reports dropped frames (network) | Upload capacity, Wi-Fi instability, congestion, or network hardware | Lower bitrate; switch to wired Ethernet if possible; reduce competing network use; inspect cables, router, and network interface. |
| Encoder overload or rendering lag | Encoder or computer cannot process the chosen output in real time | Reduce resolution or frame rate, use a supported hardware encoder if available, or simplify the scene and effects. |
| YouTube preview reports poor stream health | Bitrate, connection, stream configuration, or ingest issue | Check OBS statistics and the Live Control Room messages; test a lower target and verify the selected encoder settings. |
| Audio is missing, distorted, or out of sync | OBS audio device, levels, sample path, or monitoring setup | Confirm the intended source is active, test levels and sync in a private stream, and listen to the YouTube preview before launch. |
| Stream stops after a long session | Power, computer, network, encoder, or ingest interruption | Check system and network stability, review stream health, and test any configured failover. A local recording protects against some losses but does not keep the live feed online. |
Copyright and content rules still apply to a 24/7 stream
Using OBS or streaming pre-recorded footage does not grant rights to the content. Make sure you have permission for video, music, images, and other material you broadcast. A stream that runs continuously can still be subject to YouTube’s copyright enforcement and channel policies. Reused or repetitive material may also affect monetization eligibility; continuous availability is not itself evidence that content qualifies. Check YouTube’s copyright guidance and YouTube’s channel monetization policies for current rules.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I start lower than YouTube’s recommended bitrate?
Yes. YouTube publishes minimum H.264 figures as well as recommendations; for instance, its 1080p30 minimum is 5 Mbps while its recommendation is 10 Mbps. Test the lower setting and check stream health rather than assuming it will suit your connection.
Does YouTube automatically keep the full replay of a 24/7 stream?
No. A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, so preserve a local recording if the archive is important.
