Tom’s Guide named HBO Max its Best streaming service, YouTube TV its Best live TV and sports streaming service, Tubi its Best free streaming service, Adolescence its Best streaming original show and Woman of the Hour its Best streaming original movie. Published July 30, 2025, these are the publication’s editorial picks for the preceding 12 months—not a current ranking or a scored comparison. The awards can help you find a title or a service to explore, but the right choice depends on whether you want on-demand entertainment, live channels, sports features or free viewing.
What Tom’s Guide Awards 2025 recognize
Tom’s Guide says its experts assessed streaming releases and services from the 12 months before the awards were published. The roundup selects winners across six categories, from on-demand services to individual programs. Its judgments are qualitative: the article does not provide comparative scores, a full service-by-service assessment or current plan prices.
The awards were published on July 30, 2025. Streaming catalogs, service names, prices and channel lineups can change, so treat the named titles and services as the article’s selections at that time rather than a guarantee of what is currently available.

The distinction in the article is about character, not a measured lead: it contrasts Netflix’s quantity and the Disney/Hulu bundle’s value with what it sees as HBO Max’s more curated feel. It does not establish that HBO Max is the best fit for every viewer or compare current subscription costs.
Why YouTube TV won both live TV and sports
For a cable replacement
For its live-TV award, the writer says they re-reviewed all six mainstream live TV services available in the U.S. and still considered YouTube TV the best choice for most people, citing popular channels, features and a clean interface. The article also notes that Hulu + Live TV and Sling may offer better value for some viewers, depending on what they need from a cable replacement.

For sports features
The sports award is not a claim that YouTube TV carries the most sports channels or leagues. Tom’s Guide says “best” is not simply a count of sports or a matter of selection alone; its choice emphasizes Multiview, key-play catch-up and NFL Sunday Ticket integration. Viewers whose priority is a particular sport, league or channel should check the current lineup before choosing.
Why Tubi won Best free streaming service
Tom’s Guide selected Tubi for the range of its free library, describing a mix that includes cult horror, sitcoms, documentaries and award-winning films. The roundup also names Roku Channel and Pluto TV as alternatives. It recounts that Tubi streamed that year’s Super Bowl without a glitch, but this is the writer’s anecdotal experience—not a published reliability test or measured result.

Which original show and movie won?
Adolescence
The winning show is Netflix’s limited series Adolescence. The article praises its intimate, chaotic style and four-act structure. The writer personally argued for The Pitt, but the streaming team chose Adolescence, so the award reflects the team’s selection rather than a unanimous personal favorite.
Woman of the Hour
Tom’s Guide names Netflix’s Woman of the Hour its Best streaming original movie and describes it as Anna Kendrick’s directorial debut. The story brings serial killer Rodney Alcala, played by Daniel Zovatto, together with aspiring actor Sheryl Bradshaw, played by Kendrick, through The Dating Game. The roundup emphasizes the film’s focus on the victims.

How to use the awards to choose what to watch
Start with what you want to watch, rather than treating the six winners as one overall ranking:
- Want a mix of prestige series and films? HBO Max is the service Tom’s Guide selected for its curated feel and catalog.
- Need live channels? YouTube TV is the roundup’s live-TV choice, though the article says Hulu + Live TV or Sling may be better value for some needs.
- Want sports viewing features? YouTube TV won for Multiview, key-play catch-up and NFL Sunday Ticket integration—not for having the most sports channels or leagues.
- Want no-cost viewing? Tubi won the free-service category; Roku Channel and Pluto TV are alternatives mentioned in the article.
- Looking for a specific award-winning title? The roundup identifies Adolescence and Woman of the Hour as Netflix titles. Check the current catalog in your region, since availability can change.
These awards are Tom’s Guide’s editorial choices, not an independently measured ranking. The original roundup is available at Tom’s Guide Awards 2025.
