The “young female biker” behind Twitter account @azusagakuyuki was not a young woman. Japanese television identified the operator as Zonggu, a man about 50 years old who used FaceApp and other editing tools to turn his motorcycle photographs into a female-presenting persona.
What the account showed
@azusagakuyuki posted selfies and motorcycle-riding photographs that appeared to come from a young female enthusiast. The account attracted substantially more attention than Zonggu said he expected from photographs of an ordinary middle-aged man maintaining his bike.
Futurism reported in 2021 that the account had about 19,000 followers at that point. That figure was a publication-time snapshot, not a permanent total; contemporaneous reports cited nearby numbers.
How the persona was created
FaceApp and additional editing
Zonggu said he used FaceApp along with other editing tools to alter his appearance in the photographs. The result was a synthetic social-media identity rather than a real influencer whose images had merely been enhanced.

The engagement calculation
His stated motive was attention. He believed posts by a middle-aged man caring for his motorcycle would attract little interest, whereas photographs presenting a younger, attractive woman would draw more engagement. Futurism reproduced his explanation: “No one will read what a normal middle-aged man, taking care of his motorcycle and taking pictures outside posts on his account.”
Futurism also reported that some altered posts received as many as 1,000 likes, compared with his usual total of fewer than 10. Those numbers describe the contrast Zonggu gave reporters in 2021, not an independently audited account-wide average.

The clues followers noticed
A reflection that did not match
Before the television reveal, followers scrutinized a motorcycle mirror or another reflective surface in one of the images. The reflection appeared to show a different-looking face from the one presented in the main photograph. A reflection can preserve an angle, feature or facial proportion that an editing pass misses, making it a useful consistency check.
An incongruous arm
Reports also describe a masculine or hairy arm visible in the photographs. That detail conflicted with the account’s apparent young-woman identity and prompted further questions. Neither clue alone proves who operates an account, but together they provided a reason to inspect the images more closely.

How Japanese television exposed the operator
The Japanese entertainment program Monday Late Show (Getsuyou Kara Yofukashi) investigated the account holder and located Zonggu. The program broadcast the unmasking, which was also described by VICE and Global News.
The broadcast connected the online persona to the man operating it, rather than relying only on visual speculation. That distinction matters: a suspicious reflection can indicate manipulation, but identifying the person behind an account requires source verification or a direct investigation.

What happened after the reveal
The exposure did not simply make the account disappear. Reports describe continuing public interest and follower growth after Zonggu’s identity became known. The available accounts do not provide an independently audited, long-term follower count, so the post-reveal effect is best understood as sustained attention rather than a precisely measured trend.

Check every visible surface
Mirrors, windows, chrome, helmets and other reflective objects can expose inconsistencies in a face or body that looks convincing in the primary image. Compare the reflected subject with the pose, camera angle and lighting instead of treating the reflection as decoration.

Look for anatomy and lighting errors
Hands, arms, hair, jewelry, shadows and skin texture often receive less consistent editing than the face. A mismatched limb or implausible shadow is a prompt for verification, not by itself conclusive evidence of fraud.
Separate image evidence from identity evidence
Image clues can show that a photograph was altered. They cannot, on their own, establish the operator’s name, age or location. In this case, the identity claim came from the television investigation and the account holder’s reported admission, while the reflection and arm were early warning signs.
Treat engagement as a clue to motive, not authenticity
A sudden jump in likes may indicate that a presentation strategy is working; it does not make the persona genuine. Zonggu’s own explanation tied the altered identity to audience growth, illustrating how platform incentives can encourage synthetic self-presentation even without a stated financial scam.

The lasting lesson
This episode is a compact example of how a convincing online identity can be assembled from ordinary photographs and consumer editing software. The account’s apparent subject was fictional, but the audience response was real: likes and followers increased when the images were framed as a young woman’s motorcycle lifestyle. Reflections, anatomy and independent verification helped bridge the gap between what an image suggested and who was actually behind it.
