The app replaced its large grid of sharing destinations with a smaller, horizontally scrolling carousel, added a dedicated Copy link action, and provided a Share with other apps button that opens Android’s complete system share sheet.
This is a YouTube Music interface change—not a newly announced August 2026 feature and not a wholesale replacement of Android’s native sharing panel.
What changed in YouTube Music’s sharing interface?
The previous YouTube Music panel used a large, three-column grid of app destinations and could occupy roughly two-thirds of the display. The redesign is substantially smaller and shows a horizontally browsable row of suggested destinations, with about five targets visible at a time. The visual approach is closer to YouTube’s sharing surface, although YouTube Music retains its own custom panel.
| Part of the experience | Earlier interface | Redesigned interface |
|---|---|---|
| Destination layout | Large grid with multiple columns | Compact horizontal carousel |
| Visible targets | More destinations shown simultaneously | Approximately five targets at once; swipe for more |
| Copying a URL | Available within the sharing experience | Copy link is a clearly separated action below the carousel |
| More destinations | App destinations were presented directly in the grid | Share with other apps opens Android’s broader system share sheet |
| Screen use | Large panel covering much of the screen | Substantially smaller and less intrusive |
The redesign is primarily a layout and workflow change. The available reports do not establish a new sharing protocol, new social feature, or new type of YouTube Music content.

How the new sharing flow works
The exact location of the Share control varies by content type and app version, but the sequence is generally the same:
- Open a shareable item in YouTube Music, such as a song, album, playlist, or artist page.
- Tap the Share control, or open the relevant three-dot menu and choose Share.
- YouTube Music opens its compact custom sharing panel.
- Tap one of the suggested destinations shown in the carousel, or swipe horizontally to browse additional suggestions.
- Choose Copy link when you only need the YouTube Music URL.
- Choose Share with other apps to hand the link to Android’s full system share interface.
The system panel can expose destinations that are not visible in the compact YouTube Music row, including additional installed apps and, where supported by the device, frequent contacts.
Is this Android’s native share sheet?
No. The first screen is designed by YouTube Music. Android’s native sharing interface appears only after you tap Share with other apps. Users may therefore see two distinct surfaces in sequence:
- YouTube Music’s compact panel: a branded, curated set of common destinations, a carousel, and the direct Copy link action.
- Android’s system share sheet: the wider list of apps, contacts, and sharing actions supplied by Android and the device manufacturer.
This distinction explains why the redesigned panel may show fewer apps than the system sheet without removing those destinations from Android altogether. The original reporting is from 9to5Google’s March 31, 2024 report.

What can you still share?
The redesign does not change the basic purpose of YouTube Music sharing. Common shareable content remains available, including:
- Individual songs
- Albums
- Playlists
- Artist pages
Controls can move or differ depending on the content type, playback state, and app build, so no single menu path should be expected on every page.
Why the smaller panel can be useful
Less screen coverage
The compact surface leaves more of the current screen visible and is easier to dismiss than the former large grid.
Better one-handed scanning
A short carousel is easier to browse on a phone held in one hand, especially when the user normally shares to only one or two familiar apps.

Copy link is easier to find
Because Copy link is presented as its own action beneath the destinations, copying a URL no longer requires searching through a dense app grid.
A route to the complete list remains available
Users who need a less common destination do not lose access to Android’s broader sharing options; they can open them with Share with other apps.
The trade-offs
Fewer destinations are visible at once
The carousel optimizes for a small set of suggestions. Someone who previously picked an app directly from the dense grid may now need to swipe or open the system sheet.
An extra tap for full sharing
Share with other apps adds an intermediate step for people who prefer Android’s complete interface immediately.

Results vary by device
Suggested apps and contacts are influenced by installed applications, Android version, the phone manufacturer’s share-sheet implementation, frequently used destinations, and YouTube Music’s own rollout state. Two Android phones can therefore show different targets or ordering.
In practical terms, the redesign is likely more convenient for occasional sharing and direct URL copying, while heavy sharers across many apps may find it less efficient than the old grid.

The matching news reports place the change in the March–April 2024 Android rollout cycle. 9to5Google described Android as following an earlier iOS appearance. Android Headlines reported seeing the interface on YouTube Music version 6.44.54, but that is an observed build, not an established universal minimum version. See its April 1, 2024 follow-up.
Both reports characterized availability as gradual or potentially server-side. Installing an update alone therefore might not activate the redesign immediately, and a page repeating the headline in 2026 should not be read as evidence of a new 2026 launch.

If you still see the old share panel
- Open the Google Play Store and search for YouTube Music.
- Install any update that is offered.
- Force-close YouTube Music, then reopen it.
- Test sharing more than one content type, such as a song and a playlist.
- If the old panel remains, allow for a staged account- or device-level rollout rather than assuming the app is broken.
- Tap Share with other apps when available to confirm that Android’s own share targets are working.
The available reporting does not support clearing app data, reinstalling, or changing accounts as guaranteed fixes.
What the redesign does—and does not—mean
- It makes YouTube Music’s default sharing surface smaller and carousel-based.
- It adds a prominent direct path to Copy link.
- It keeps Android’s full share sheet one tap deeper.
- It does not prove that every Android user receives the same interface at the same time.
- It does not establish new sharing capabilities beyond the existing content types.
- No official Google announcement or detailed release note was identified in the contemporaneous coverage.
Bottom line for Android users
YouTube Music’s Android share redesign is a modest usability change from March–April 2024: cleaner and less intrusive for routine sharing, with Copy link easier to reach. The cost is reduced at-a-glance visibility for people who share to many different apps. When the compact panel is not enough, Share with other apps remains the path to Android’s complete sharing interface.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still share songs, albums, playlists, and artists?
Yes. Those common YouTube Music content types remain shareable, although the location of the Share control can vary by page and app state.
Where is Copy link in the redesigned panel?
Open YouTube Music’s Share control and look below the destination carousel for the dedicated Copy link action.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow do I open Android’s full share sheet?
Tap Share with other apps at the bottom of YouTube Music’s custom panel.
Why do I still have the old design after updating?
The rollout was reported as gradual or server-side, so app version alone may not determine when an account or device receives it.
Does the redesign add new sharing features?
The evidence supports a visual and workflow redesign, not a new sharing protocol or new category of content.
