Yes—if “channels” means streaming apps such as Netflix, Hulu, or YouTube. Roku lets you move those app tiles on the Home Screen with the remote. Live-TV guide channels are different: Roku documents Favorites, hiding, and filters rather than a universal drag-and-drop order.
First, identify what you want to organize
| What you see | Can it be freely rearranged? | How to organize it |
|---|---|---|
| Streaming apps (Roku’s traditional “channels”) | Yes, as Home Screen app tiles | Use the Star/asterisk button and Move app |
| Live streaming channels in the Live TV Channel Guide | Not as an arbitrary custom numerical order in Roku’s documented controls | Favorite, hide, or filter channels |
| Over-the-air antenna channels on a Roku TV | Not like app icons | Manage them in the Live TV guide |
| HDMI cable or satellite input | The input tile can be moved on the Roku Home Screen; the provider’s channel order cannot | Use the cable or satellite box’s guide and remote |
Roku uses “channel” for many streaming services, but the current interface and support pages generally call them apps. The steps below therefore say “app” or “app tile.”
Move a Roku streaming app
- Press Home on the Roku remote.
- Go to the Apps section or the app grid.
- Highlight the app tile without opening it.
- Press the Star/asterisk (*) button (also called the Options button).
- Select Move app.
- Use the directional pad to place the tile where you want it.
- Press OK to save.
The tile moves on that Roku device. Roku says Home Screen arrangements do not automatically sync to other Roku players or TVs on the same account. Repeat the steps on each device.
Official instructions: Roku’s move-an-app guide.
If your Roku has the newer 2026 Home Screen
Roku says the redesigned U.S. Home Screen began rolling out on May 27, 2026. The main menu is on the left, and installed services appear in an Apps section farther down the page. If apps seem to have vanished from the top, scroll down rather than reinstalling them.

Labels and placement can vary by Roku TV or player, region, and software rollout. See Roku’s Home Screen explanation and its 2026 OS feature announcement.
Can you rearrange live-TV channels?
Not in the same way as app tiles. Roku’s documented Live TV controls let you create a preferred list, hide unwanted channels, and switch guide filters; they do not promise that every live channel can be dragged into any numerical position.

Favorite a channel
- Open the Live TV Channel Guide.
- Highlight the channel.
- Move left until the channel name or logo is highlighted.
- Press Star (*) and choose Favorite channel.
Hide channels or manage the list
From the guide, use Manage channels, then Manage channel lineup to hide channels. The guide can be filtered to All channels, Recents, or Favorites. If a channel appears missing, switch back to All channels and check whether it was hidden.
These controls apply to Roku’s supported live-TV guide. Roku says live streaming listings are supported in the United States, while antenna listings are supported in the United States and United Kingdom; availability also depends on the device and setup. The guide does not provide listings for a separate cable or satellite subscription or box. See Roku’s Favorites and channel-list instructions and its guide availability details.

What if an app is missing?
- Press Left from Home to open the expanded menu.
- Select Search and enter the app’s name.
- If it is available, choose Add app.
- After installation, look at the bottom of the Home Screen app list and move it using the steps above.
Roku also supports adding apps from the device, its Streaming Store website, or the mobile app. Country availability, device compatibility, account requirements, and a service’s separate subscription can affect whether an app appears. A website-installed app may take time to appear after the Roku reconnects to the internet. Details: Roku’s app-adding guide and the Home Screen support page.
Remove an app without confusing that with canceling billing
- Highlight the app on Home.
- Press Star (*).
- Select Remove app.
- Confirm.
An active subscription can prevent Remove app from appearing. Use Manage subscription where offered, and verify cancellation or turned-off auto-renewal separately. Deleting the tile does not by itself guarantee that payments stop. Roku’s instructions are at Remove an app.

Can the Roku mobile app reorder tiles?
Roku’s current mobile-app documentation covers launching apps, adding them from the Store, and removing them. It does not document drag-and-drop Home Screen reordering, so use the physical Roku remote for this task. The phone app can still serve as a backup remote when the original is unavailable, but its controls may not expose every tile-management command. See Roku’s mobile-app support page.
Common cases and the right fix
- Netflix or Hulu is too far down: Highlight it, press Star, choose Move app.
- A newly installed app is at the bottom: That is normal; move it after installation.
- The Home Screen looks unfamiliar: Scroll to Apps and expand the left menu with Left.
- A favorite app should be first: Choose Move app to the top if your Options menu provides it.
- The live-TV list is cluttered: Hide channels or filter to Favorites.
- A live channel disappeared: Check the guide’s filter, then Manage channels → Manage channel lineup to unhide it.
- An HDMI cable box is hard to organize: Roku can move the input tile, but only the provider’s box controls its internal channel order. See Roku’s cable, satellite, and antenna guidance.
Do you need new hardware?
No. Compatible Roku players and Roku TVs already include app reordering, so try the remote procedure first. A replacement device is relevant only when the current one is slow, damaged, unsupported, or otherwise due for replacement; its app arrangement will still need to be set up separately.
