The widely shared headline about Amazon Music Unlimited raising prices for Prime members and Family-plan users refers to Amazon’s August 16, 2023 increase—not a newly confirmed 2026 announcement. Amazon raised prices again in 2025. On official U.S. pages reviewed August 16, 2026, the displayed prices are $10.99 per month for a Prime-member Individual plan and $19.99 per month or $199 per year for the Family plan. Reports of another 2026 increase are not confirmed by Amazon’s public pricing pages.
What the original headline meant
TechCrunch reported on August 16, 2023 that Amazon would raise U.S. Amazon Music Unlimited prices for Prime-member Individual subscribers and Family-plan customers. New subscribers received the higher prices immediately; existing customers moved to them after September 19, 2023. The announcement is documented in TechCrunch’s report.

Amazon’s later 2025 increase
Amazon announced another U.S. price change in its Amazon Music FAQ. New customers received the updated prices on January 29, 2025. Existing subscribers were charged the new rate at the next monthly renewal on or after March 5, 2025. Promotional subscribers generally kept their promotional rate until the applicable promotional period ended.

The following figures are the prices shown in the Amazon pages reviewed on August 16, 2026. They are U.S. prices and can differ because of taxes, promotions, eligibility, country, billing channel, or account-specific offers.

Amazon’s FAQ contains conflicting Family annual figures: one section still says $159 while its price-change notice says $199. Amazon’s pricing explainer lists $199. Your checkout screen and account settings are the final authority for your subscription.
Prime does not include Music Unlimited
Prime membership includes Amazon Music Prime, not the separately paid Unlimited tier. Amazon says Prime members can access more than 100 million songs, but playback outside selected All-Access Playlists may be shuffled and skips and offline features are more limited. Amazon’s Music explanation distinguishes that included benefit from Unlimited.

Who can be charged the higher rate?
- Prime members paying for the Unlimited Individual plan.
- Subscribers to the Unlimited Family plan.
- New customers, who normally see the current price when they join.
- Existing customers when the applicable renewal date reaches the new rate.
- Trial or promotional customers after the promotion ends and full-price billing begins.
The annual Unlimited plans are described as available exclusively to eligible Prime members in Amazon’s subscription help material. Eligibility and prices can vary for Prime Student, Prime Access and other discounted memberships.
How to check your own charge
- Open Amazon’s Your Amazon Music Settings page.
- Confirm the plan name, monthly or annual billing frequency, renewal date and payment method.
- Compare the amount with the price shown for your country and plan on Amazon’s current signup or FAQ page.
- Identify the billing provider. An Apple in-app subscription must be managed through the Apple account; Amazon says it cannot cancel, manage or refund subscriptions created through Apple’s billing system.
- If the billed amount still differs from the displayed plan price, contact Amazon customer service or the app-store provider that processed the payment.
Do not assume every account has the same total: taxes, legacy offers, promotions, annual billing, country and third-party billing can change the amount.

Is the Family plan worthwhile?
At the displayed U.S. prices, two Prime-member Individual subscriptions cost $21.98 per month before tax. The $19.99 Family plan is therefore cheaper once two regular listeners need Unlimited, and its value improves for three to six users. Amazon says Family members use separate accounts with personalized recommendations and can listen simultaneously; the account holder pays the bill. Details are in Amazon’s Family-plan help page.
- One listener: Compare Individual Unlimited with the included Music Prime experience.
- Two listeners: Family is cheaper than two Prime-member Individual plans at the displayed monthly rates.
- Three to six listeners: Family generally offers the strongest per-person value if everyone uses it.
- Children: Amazon’s family guidance describes adult profiles and parental access for children ages 6–12 on Fire Tablets; check the current account controls before inviting a child.
Annual billing is less flexible, even when its listed total is lower than twelve monthly payments. Confirm the exact amount at checkout because Amazon’s pages are not fully synchronized.

Are reports of an additional 2026 increase true?
A third-party price-history page claims a February 2026 increase to $11.99 per month for Prime-member Individual plans and $21.99 for Family. Some users have also reported those amounts, particularly through third-party billing channels. Those reports conflict with Amazon’s official pages, which continue to display $10.99 and $19.99 in the reviewed U.S. materials. Until Amazon publishes a notice or your own account shows a documented change, treat $11.99 and $21.99 as unverified, account-specific or billing-channel reports—not confirmed national prices. Should you keep, change or cancel Unlimited?
Keep Individual Unlimited when
- You regularly select exact tracks or albums instead of accepting shuffle playback.
- HD, Ultra HD or spatial audio matters and your device and tracks support it.
- You use Echo, Fire TV or other Amazon integrations heavily.
Choose Family when
- At least two household members need separate, simultaneous listening.
- You will use enough of the six available accounts to justify the fee.
Downgrade to Music Prime when
- You already pay for Prime and can accept shuffle limitations and fewer on-demand controls.
- Only one person listens and Unlimited features are rarely used.
Consider another service when
Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and Tidal may better fit a household’s discovery tools, device ecosystem, video benefits or high-fidelity priorities. Check each provider’s current price and terms separately; those prices are not established here.
