Tomorrowland was not cancelled after its 2025 Mainstage fire. The Orbyz Mainstage was destroyed or severely damaged during construction and rehearsals at Boom, Belgium, on 16 July 2025. About 1,000 workers were evacuated safely, no injuries were reported, and organizers opened the 18–20 July festival with a revised, safety-checked layout instead of the original stage.

Approximately 1,000 staff and crew members were working on site. They were evacuated safely, and contemporaneous reports recorded no injuries. The definitive cause was not established in the initial reporting and remained under investigation.
Did Tomorrowland get cancelled?
No. Organizers confirmed that the 18–20 July 2025 festival would go ahead without the original Mainstage. They worked with local authorities on a secured replacement arrangement and kept a second contingency available: if the entire site could not safely operate at full capacity, DreamVille and the festival grounds could run as separate operating areas.

Doors were planned for 2 p.m. instead of the usual noon opening. Tomorrowland spokesperson Debby Wilmsen said the festival would continue “albeit without the main stage,” and later emphasized that organizers were going “100 percent” ahead.
How the response changed the festival experience
| Area | What was reported for 2025 |
|---|---|
| Human safety | All workers were evacuated; no injuries were reported. |
| Performances | The festival continued from 18–20 July without the destroyed Orbyz Mainstage, using a revised operating plan. |
| Opening time | Doors were planned for 2 p.m., rather than noon. |
| Capacity and access | Organizers considered a secured replacement setup or separate operating areas for DreamVille and the festival grounds if full capacity was not safely achievable. |
| Scale | Tomorrowland’s official historical information records more than 400,000 attendees across two 2025 weekends and 16 stages. Belga reported that 38,000 people were expected at DreamVille on the Thursday after the fire. |
Was anyone hurt?
No injuries were reported in the immediate fire response. The safe evacuation of the approximately 1,000 people on site was the clearest confirmed outcome for staff and crew. Reports did not establish injuries among festival visitors because the incident occurred before the public festival opening.
What caused the fire?
The cause should not be presented as confirmed. Witnesses reportedly heard fireworks, and some accounts suggested a fireworks-cannon test, but officials had not confirmed that explanation. DJ Mag and Belga both described the cause as unknown and under investigation in their contemporaneous coverage.
What safety measures followed for 2026?
Tomorrowland later reported measures developed after a University of Antwerp-coordinated risk analysis. The analysis rated overall risk as “low to moderate” and concluded that visitors could be evacuated within established safety standards even in exceptional scenarios.

Monitoring and staffing
- Real-time crowd monitoring and density measurements.
- Additional fire guards at strategic locations.
- Backup teams for critical safety functions.
Infrastructure and emergency procedures
- Added protection for evacuation tunnels and underpasses near the Mainstage.
- Refined “show-stop procedures” covering emergency communication, music interruptions and crowd-flow management.
- A planned reduction in fireworks use.
Wilmsen said the incident demonstrated the importance of redundancy, real-time monitoring and rapid centralized control at an event of this scale. The 2026 safety analysis was presented as a prevention and preparedness review; it did not establish the 2025 fire’s ignition source.
