YouTube TV’s genre-based plans launched in February 2026, so they are no longer merely a future promise. They offer lower-priced alternatives to the $82.99-per-month main plan, but they are predefined bundles—not a way to pick channels one by one—and the plan list available to you can depend on whether you are a new or existing subscriber and how you are billed.
What YouTube TV plans cost
YouTube’s February 9, 2026 announcement published the following standard monthly prices and separate prices for new users at launch. Treat the lower figures as launch offers, not guaranteed ongoing rates; check the plan and checkout details for your account before subscribing or switching.
| Plan | Published standard price | New-user price cited at launch |
|---|---|---|
| Main plan | $82.99/month | Not stated in the February 9, 2026 announcement |
| Sports | $64.99/month | $54.99/month |
| Sports + News | $71.99/month | $56.99/month |
| Entertainment | $54.99/month | $44.99/month |
| News + Entertainment + Family | $69.99/month | $59.99/month |
These are the headline packages and prices YouTube published at launch, not a complete price list for every combination or a guarantee that each is offered to every account. See YouTube’s pricing announcement and its current plan and switching help for account-specific details.
What each major plan is for
Sports
YouTube described this as a sports-focused package with major broadcast networks and sports channels including FS1, NBC Sports Network and ESPN networks. Local broadcast availability varies by ZIP code, and the plan should not be taken to guarantee every regional sports network, league package or out-of-market event. YouTube’s February announcement said ESPN Unlimited was scheduled to arrive in fall 2026; check the current lineup rather than assuming that announced timing or inclusion applies to your account.

Sports + News
This combines the Sports plan with national news channels YouTube named, including CNBC, Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, C-SPAN, Bloomberg and Fox Business. It may suit a household that watches sports and news but does not need the broader entertainment and lifestyle selection.
Entertainment
YouTube’s examples include broadcast networks and entertainment, lifestyle and movie-oriented channels such as FX, Hallmark, Comedy Central, Bravo, Paramount, Food Network and HGTV. It is still a live-TV bundle, not a standalone on-demand movie service. Check your market’s lineup for the channels you actually watch.

Other multi-genre combinations are also offered, but the exact menu depends on subscriber status and billing arrangements.
Which plans can you choose?
YouTube’s help page distinguishes the options shown to new subscribers from those shown to existing subscribers. It lists the main plan and several combinations for new subscribers, including Sports, Sports + News, Sports + Entertainment, Sports + Family, Sports + News + Entertainment and Sports + News + Family. The existing-subscriber list also includes combinations such as News + Entertainment, News + Family, Entertainment, Entertainment + Family, Sports + Entertainment + Family and News + Entertainment + Family.

That difference is practical: a plan described in an announcement may not appear for every account. Availability can also vary with a mobile carrier, internet provider or other billing partner. YouTube offers predefined genre bundles; subscribers cannot assemble a fully custom package by selecting individual channels. The YouTube TV Help page has the account and switching details.
What stays, and what can change when you downgrade
YouTube says the genre plans retain core product features such as unlimited DVR, up to six household accounts, Key Plays, Multiview and access to eligible add-ons. The crucial difference is channel access: if a channel is not in the new plan, you may lose access to its live programming and recordings.

- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
Recordings from removed channels
YouTube’s help documentation says the DVR library is updated to match the channels in the new plan. Recordings associated with channels removed by a downgrade may disappear. If you upgrade again to restore the relevant genre within 21 days, YouTube says the removed DVR content can be recovered.
Promotions, billing dates and add-ons
Switching can remove an existing promotional price, so compare the plan’s post-promotion cost with your actual current bill. YouTube says the new plan starts immediately, credits unused time on the old plan and changes the main-plan billing date to the switch date. Add-ons generally carry over, but keep their original billing cycle; canceling the main plan cancels add-ons.

YouTube says eligible add-ons can be used with the genre plans, including NFL Sunday Ticket, Sports Plus with NFL RedZone, HBO Max and 4K Plus, subject to their terms. Add-on prices and offers can vary; the official add-ons page provides details. YouTube’s plan page showed price signals of $9.99 per month for 4K Plus and $10.99 per month for Sports Plus when cited, but those figures should not be treated as guaranteed current prices. Add required add-ons to the plan price before judging the savings.

- Open YouTube TV in a web browser or another supported device; plan switching is not available inside the iOS or Android YouTube TV apps.
- Go to Settings, then select Membership.
- Select the plan you want and follow the on-screen instructions to confirm.
The new plan starts immediately under YouTube’s stated switching rules. If you are billed through a mobile carrier, internet provider or another billing partner, you may need to contact that provider; plan availability can differ by billing provider. Check the confirmation screen for the price, promotion and billing details that apply to your account.
How to decide whether the lower price is worth it
A genre plan may fit if
- Your household mostly watches one category, or a combination covered by a plan.
- You pay the main plan’s published $82.99 monthly price rather than a discounted rate.
- Your local lineup includes the broadcast stations and sports channels you need.
- You do not rely on recordings from channels the new plan excludes.
- Any necessary add-ons leave a meaningful monthly saving.
The main plan may be the better value if
- Household members watch across sports, news, entertainment and family channels.
- You rely on recordings from networks that would disappear after a downgrade.
- A legacy discount or promotion makes your current bill competitive.
- Adding back premium sports or entertainment services brings the genre plan close to the main-plan cost.
Use this calculation rather than comparing sticker prices alone: new plan price + required add-ons + any lost promotional discount = actual monthly cost. Check the lineup for your ZIP code before switching; local stations and regional sports availability are not identical everywhere.
When another service may suit you better
If none of YouTube TV’s predefined bundles matches your viewing, compare services by the channels and features your household needs rather than by introductory price alone. Sling may suit viewers seeking a narrower live-TV bundle; Fubo is worth checking for sports-heavy households, with specific leagues and add-ons verified; Hulu + Live TV may appeal to households wanting live channels alongside on-demand entertainment; and DIRECTV STREAM is another live-TV bundle to compare. Philo is more relevant when entertainment and lifestyle channels matter more than local broadcast channels or major live sports. Tubi is free and ad-supported, but it is not a substitute for local affiliates or premium live sports. See each provider’s current offer and lineup before deciding: Sling, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, DIRECTV STREAM, Philo and Tubi.
