Yes. BandLab can release a complete album, but “release on BandLab” describes two different services. BandLab Albums creates a free album page on BandLab. BandLab Distribution delivers your recordings to Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL and more than 20 other digital service providers, and requires an active paid Pro or Max Membership.
You can use both routes: publish a listener-friendly album page on BandLab and distribute the same masters to streaming services. New albums cannot currently be sold directly through BandLab; its paid-album service has been discontinued. See BandLab’s album publishing instructions and distribution guide.
Choose the right BandLab release route

BandLab Albums supports album types including Album, LP, EP, Mixtape and Single. Distribution is a separate submission and delivery system, not an automatic extension of an album page. Details are in BandLab’s Albums guidelines.
Prepare everything before you upload
Finish the audio and sequence
- Export final mixes or masters for every track and confirm the running order.
- BandLab accepts WAV, MP3, M4A, OGG and AAC. Using your highest-quality final masters—preferably lossless WAV—is editorial best practice, not a stated format requirement.
- Check gaps, fades, silence, clipping and track names before submission. BandLab Mastering offers free functionality, with additional controls and presets tied to Membership; it is not a universal substitute for professional mastering. See the Mastering FAQ.
Clear every right
Do not distribute a recording merely because it is saved in your BandLab account. You need ownership or permission for the sound recording, composition, samples and loops, cover songs, featured performers, producers, collaborators, artwork, photographs, logos and trademarks. Shared projects and band accounts need particular care. BandLab’s Terms of Use place legal-clearance responsibility on the Member.

For a band, sign a written agreement covering master and composition ownership, percentages, royalty splits, artist-name control, artwork and metadata approval, account control and what happens if someone leaves. BandLab discusses this risk in its band-member guidance.
Gather metadata and account details
- Final artist or band name, release title, genre and intended release date.
- Composer and lyricist full legal names, lyric language and lyrics status.
- Explicit-content status for every track.
- Featured artists, producers, remixers, performers, instruments, engineers and other credits.
- Optional release and track versions, UPC, ISRCs, publisher and label information.
- Correct Spotify and Apple Music artist-profile URLs, if profiles already exist.
- A confirmed BandLab email address and a connected payout method. BandLab’s payout instructions reference Tipalti: Getting paid on BandLab.
Publish an album page on BandLab
- Sign in on the BandLab website and open Library.
- Select Albums, then click + New.
- Enter the title, description, genre and album type.
- Upload the artwork and click Next.
- Add tracks by dragging them onto the page, uploading files or selecting tracks from your BandLab library.
- Open the preview. Edit track details, remove tracks or rearrange their order from the track menu.
- Adjust album settings and page customization, then click Publish.
BandLab’s album-publishing help lists a practical minimum artwork size of 320 × 320 pixels; its customization guidance recommends at least 500 × 500 pixels. Some customization controls are web-only. This route creates a BandLab page, not a Spotify or Apple Music delivery.

Distribute the album to streaming platforms
- On BandLab’s website, sign in and open Services in the top navigation.
- Select Distribution and click + New Release.
- Select multiple projects or uploaded tracks to create an album or EP.
- Enter the release title, artist, genre, release date and other release-level fields.
- Upload the cover art.
- Complete each track’s title, version, composer, lyricist, lyrics, explicit status and contributor, performer and production credits.
- Add valid Spotify or Apple Music artist-profile links when applicable.
- Set up your payout method if prompted.
- Review every field, click Submit, read the Terms of Service and agree.
- Monitor the Distribution page and your email for status changes or corrections.
Older mobile instructions place Distribution under Artist Services behind the star icon, with a plus icon to begin. Labels can change, so use the web workflow if your app looks different. BandLab’s background guide is How to use BandLab Distribution.
Artwork and metadata rules that prevent rejection
Distribution artwork
For DSP delivery, use a JPG or PNG square image (1:1), at least 1,400 × 1,400 and no more than 6,000 × 6,000 pixels, with a file size no greater than 10 MB. It must be sharp, original and relevant. Do not use URLs, email addresses, phone numbers, barcodes, social handles, prices, product upsells, unrelated artist names or copyrighted/trademarked imagery. Text should be limited to permitted artist, title and label information. The detailed checklist is in BandLab’s submission guidelines.

Metadata conventions
- Keep artist and title spelling identical across the artwork and every metadata field.
- Put featured artists in contributor fields, not “feat.” text in the title.
- Put “Acoustic,” “Remix” and similar version information in the version field rather than brackets in the title.
- Use legal names where composer, lyricist, performer or production fields request them.
- Mark lyrics and explicit content accurately, and avoid prohibited special characters.
How long does distribution take?
BandLab says status is usually updated within about two business days. Its current release choices are:
- ASAP: approximately five to seven business days after submission, assuming approval and no quality-control issue.
- Specific Date: the selected date must be at least 14 days in the future.
Store delivery times vary; older BandLab guidance estimated roughly 24–48 hours for Spotify after delivery and several days or longer for other stores. These are estimates, not guarantees. Submit two to four weeks before a major campaign so you have time to fix metadata, replace artwork or resolve a rejection.

While the required Membership is active, BandLab says artists retain 100% of distribution earnings. If Membership becomes inactive, the distribution help page says you receive 100% through the end of that billing cycle and 80% thereafter; releases may eventually be removed if the subscription stays inactive. Distribution earnings are not the same as publishing, performance, neighboring-rights or other composition royalties. Register works with the appropriate PRO or publisher, account for collaborator splits, and allow for taxes or payout-provider charges.
If BandLab rejects the release
- Open the rejection email or Distribution dashboard.
- Choose Fix Your Release, or use the track’s three-dot menu and select Edit.
- Correct the flagged fields only, then click Next.
- Review and submit again, accepting the Terms of Service if prompted.
Frequent avoidable causes include artwork that is too small, blurry, duplicated or contains prohibited text; artist names that do not match; featured artists or versions formatted in titles; incomplete composer or lyricist credits; incorrect lyrics or explicit labels; invalid profile links; uncleared samples, covers, images or trademarks; missing payout setup; and activity associated with fraudulent or non-organic streams.
When another distributor may be better
Consider a different distributor if you do not want a recurring BandLab subscription, need releases to remain live independently of Membership, manage several artist identities, require a different accounting or collaboration model, or need services BandLab does not provide. BandLab currently allows one artist name per account at a time; another name requires another account, and the primary name and profile links may lock after a release enters the relevant status.
Compare any alternative on annual versus per-release cost, royalty percentage, post-cancellation availability, number of artist profiles, catalog tools, split payments, publishing administration, Content ID and neighboring rights, store coverage, support and migration rules. Examples include DistroKid, TuneCore and CD Baby; verify their current terms yourself.
