Nobody 2 has a mixed-to-positive reception from critics and a stronger audience score, but “A Perfect Summer Movie Packed with Action” is Rotten Tomatoes’ editorial headline—not a universal verdict. The divide is over whether the sequel’s bigger, more comic action is entertaining escalation or a less surprising repeat of the 2021 original.

What is Nobody 2 about?

Directed by Timo Tjahjanto, the 2025 action-thriller and dark comedy brings Bob Odenkirk back as Hutch Mansell. In Universal’s synopsis, Hutch takes his family on vacation to a tourist town; an encounter with a local bully pulls them into the orbit of a crime boss. Connie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd, John Ortiz, RZA, Sharon Stone and Colin Hanks are also among the cast listed by Universal.

Universal rates the film R for strong bloody violence and language throughout. The studio lists its runtime as 1 hour 30 minutes; Metacritic gives it as 1 hour 29 minutes.

What do the first reviews say?

The overall response is favorable but not unanimous. Rotten Tomatoes’ critics consensus describes the film as a “diverting sequel that measures up admirably to the original,” crediting Odenkirk’s performance. Its first-reviews roundup also records praise for the action set pieces and the movie’s energy. Giovanni Lago of Next Best Picture called it “one of those rare sequels that feels like an upgrade.”

There is a clear counterargument. The Associated Press gave the film one star out of four, criticizing its balance of action and comedy. Other reservations in the roundup focus on how the sequel compares with the first film: some critics see its callbacks and heightened mayhem as familiar rather than fresh.

How does the sequel compare with the original?

The key question is whether Nobody 2’s bigger, more outrageous approach is a strength. The original’s appeal included a more grounded feel and the surprise of watching an apparently ordinary man reveal his violent past. The sequel leans into more heightened action and comic excess. For viewers who want inventive set pieces and a lively return to Hutch’s world, that expansion can be part of the fun; for viewers who valued the original’s relative restraint and novelty, it may feel like a loss of balance.

That difference also shapes the story critique. Reviewers who favor the sequel tend to respond to its action and Odenkirk’s performance; detractors find the action-comedy mix less effective or the story less distinctive. Whether it improves on the first film is a matter of taste, not a settled critical consensus.

How well was Nobody 2 received?

As checked September 27, 2026, Rotten Tomatoes showed 76% from 205 critic reviews and 87% from more than 1,000 verified audience ratings. Metacritic listed a Metascore of 59/100 based on 32 critic reviews, a mixed-or-average assessment. These figures are snapshots that can change. Rotten Tomatoes’ percentages and Metacritic’s score use different methods, so they are not directly comparable measurements.
