Netflix titles appeared in Apple’s TV app for some users on February 14, 2025, but that was not a confirmed launch of full Netflix integration. Follow-up reporting described the behavior as a bug, while Apple’s current support documentation lists Netflix Originals as searchable in some regions without confirming Watchlist syncing, Continue Watching progress, or a complete Netflix catalog. For dependable viewing, you still need Netflix’s own app and a Netflix subscription.
What happened in February 2025?
On February 14, users began reporting that selected Netflix series—including Squid Game and Stranger Things—were showing up in Apple’s TV app. Reports described titles appearing in search and, for some users, in Watchlist or Continue Watching areas. Some listings could direct viewers toward Netflix, and account-linking behavior was also reported. The appearance was inconsistent; it was not evidence that every Netflix title had been added. AppleInsider’s initial report and MacRumors’ report of sightings among some users captured the early behavior.
The important correction came the same day: follow-up reporting described the appearance as a bug, not an announced partnership or completed rollout. Neither company issued a formal announcement confirming broad integration. It is therefore more accurate to say Netflix series appeared for some users than to say Netflix “joined” Apple TV.
Search is not the same as full integration
“Netflix in Apple TV” can mean several different things. A title might be discoverable in search, link to the Netflix app, save to Apple’s Watchlist, or report viewing progress back to Continue Watching. Those are separate capabilities; seeing one does not establish the others.

Apple’s partner documentation defines an integrated video app in terms of content being discoverable through Universal Search and viewing progress being tracked in Continue Watching. That distinction matters: search visibility alone is not proof that playback handoff or progress synchronization works. See Apple’s overview of the Apple TV app for video partners.
- Discovery: Apple’s TV app can surface a title or show page. Search may identify a service or show a “How to Watch” option.
- Watchlist: Saving a title depends on the available integration and may differ by account, title, device, and region.
- Continue Watching: This requires viewing progress to be shared with Apple’s app. Apple’s iPhone guide describes Continue Watching as drawing on connected, supported apps; it does not confirm Netflix progress syncing for every viewer. Apple’s guide to Continue Watching.
- Playback: A listing may open Netflix rather than play inside Apple’s TV app. Netflix’s instructions for Apple TV continue to direct viewers to its dedicated app. Netflix’s Apple TV setup and playback guidance.
What Apple’s current documentation confirms
Apple’s support page for search providers lists “Netflix Originals” for the United States. That is useful confirmation that Netflix Originals can be included in Apple TV search, but it is narrower than a promise that all Netflix programming is indexed or that Netflix supports every Apple TV app feature. Provider availability varies by country or region. Consult Apple’s regional search-provider information for the relevant market.

The label “Netflix Originals” should not be expanded into “the whole Netflix library.” Netflix’s catalog includes licensed titles and varies by region; the available evidence does not establish that licensed shows, all movies, or every Original will appear. Nor does Apple’s search listing prove that Continue Watching progress reliably syncs.

Apple has not confirmed a universal Netflix integration, so treat these as checks rather than guaranteed setup instructions:

- Update your device software and the Apple TV and Netflix apps where updates are available.
- Open Apple’s TV app and search for a known Netflix Original, such as Squid Game or Stranger Things.
- If a result appears, check whether Netflix is listed under “How to Watch.” Availability may vary by region and title.
- If Watchlist is offered, save the title and see whether it remains there. Then open the listing and note whether it launches Netflix or offers another playback route.
- Watch part of an episode in Netflix, return to Apple’s TV app, and check whether Continue Watching reflects the progress. A missing update does not necessarily mean your settings are wrong; Netflix progress syncing is not confirmed as a general feature.
If a title is missing, will not play, or does not update progress, use the Netflix app directly. These names refer to different things: the Apple TV app is a viewing and discovery app; Apple TV+ is Apple’s subscription service; Apple TV 4K is Apple hardware. An Apple TV+ subscription does not pay for Netflix or include Netflix membership. If you watch Netflix, its subscription, profiles, billing, and account controls remain with Netflix. Netflix on Apple TV hardware is a separate matter
Netflix can work on supported Apple TV hardware through its own app; that is separate from whether Netflix titles are integrated into Apple’s TV app. Netflix’s support page covers setup and lists Apple TV 4K generations 1, 2, and 3 for 4K playback in the Netflix app. It also provides device and software guidance, so check the model and tvOS requirements if the Netflix app itself is unavailable or misbehaving. The same caution applies to iPhone, iPad, Mac, third-party televisions, and streaming devices: the Apple TV app’s availability does not guarantee identical integration features on every platform. Apple’s product page mentions Netflix as part of the broader Apple TV 4K experience, but that marketing reference is not confirmation of Watchlist or progress synchronization. Apple TV 4K.
What remains unconfirmed
Without a first-party announcement, the February 2025 reports do not establish whether a permanent integration exists, whether all users or devices receive it, or whether Netflix reliably shares progress with Continue Watching. They also do not show that the full Netflix catalog is indexed or explain whether any behavior varies by plan, region, app version, or server-side test. Apple’s searchable-provider listing is evidence of search support for Netflix Originals in some markets—not proof of the broader feature set.
