The best place to start is The Amateur if you want smart revenge, Road House if you want immediate fistfights, Play Dirty if you want a heist, or The Tomorrow War if you want large-scale science-fiction combat. This is an editorial U.S. watchlist researched on August 12, 2026—not an objective ranking—and Prime Video availability can change by country, tier, channel, and licensing window.
Whether you want a fast revenge story, a loud science-fiction battle, a stylish crime chase, or something stranger, these 16 picks make a strong Amazon Prime Video action watchlist. The selection is editorial rather than an objective ranking, and availability refers to the U.S. catalog checked on August 12, 2026.
Before you press play
Prime Video availability is not identical for every viewer. A title may be included with a Prime Video subscription, available free with advertising, offered through an add-on channel, or listed in the Amazon Video Store for separate rental or purchase. Country, subscription tier, and licensing windows can all change the offer shown on an individual title page.
The first 15 movies below were treated in the supplied research as current Prime subscription or free selections at the time of review. The Accountant 2 is the important exception: its current U.S. Amazon listing showed rental and purchase offers rather than inclusion with a standard Prime subscription. Check the offer line on the title page immediately before watching.

The 16 best action movies on Amazon Prime Video
1. The Amateur (2025)
Best for: a cerebral revenge thriller.
Rami Malek plays a CIA code-breaker whose technical intelligence becomes the foundation for a personal pursuit of the terrorists responsible for his wife’s death. He is not introduced as an experienced action hero; the appeal is watching a highly analytical character acquire the physical skills he needs to survive and retaliate.
The Amateur is a good first choice when you want action with a problem-solving component. Its premise gives the fights and pursuit scenes a different texture from a conventional military or superhero movie: preparation, information, and improvisation matter as much as force.
2. Road House (2024)
Best for: kinetic fistfights and a charismatic lead.

One-click scans. No signup required.
Jake Gyllenhaal leads this action remake with a performance built around physical commitment and personality. The film is especially suited to a viewer who wants the action to arrive quickly and often, with highly kinetic sequences rather than a long period of investigative setup.
Conor McGregor adds an unusually threatening screen presence, giving the movie a volatile antagonist energy. Choose Road House when the goal is not intricate espionage but a lively, hard-hitting action watch with a star who can sell both the jokes and the confrontations.
3. Play Dirty (2025)
Best for: a straightforward heist.
Mark Wahlberg and Rosa Salazar join forces for a major robbery while facing both criminal and political adversaries. That setup makes Play Dirty the uncomplicated choice on this list: a crew, a large target, powerful opposition, and the escalating complications that follow.
It is a natural pick for viewers who want forward motion without committing to a superhero universe or a military science-fiction premise. Put it on when the day’s ideal entertainment is a crime-driven action thriller with a clear commercial hook.
4. The Tomorrow War (2021)
Best for: large-scale science-fiction combat.
In this action-adventure, time travelers arrive from 30 years in the future to recruit soldiers and civilians from the present for an alien war. Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, and J.K. Simmons lead the cast.

- Wi-Fi 6 support - Enjoy smooth 4K streaming, even when other devices are connected to your router.
The movie is built for viewers who want the scale of a global or future war rather than a contained fight. Its time-travel recruitment premise also supplies an immediate reason for ordinary people to be pulled into extraordinary combat. It is the strongest pick here for a noisy, effects-driven start to the day.
5. To Live and Die in L.A. (1985)
Best for: a hard-edged crime chase.
William Friedkin’s neo-noir centers on counterfeiting and carries the rough, pressurized mood associated with hard-boiled 1980s crime films. Its major car chase is the obvious action centerpiece, but the movie’s appeal also comes from its atmosphere and moral harshness.
This is the stylish alternative to the newer, more polished titles above. The film was identified as newly available to stream on Prime Video in a July 24, 2026 TV Guide update, but because catalog windows move, confirm that status in the U.S. listing before starting it.

Best for: ambitious action-comedy with a prestige angle.
Rotten Tomatoes describes the movie as an adventure with large action set pieces, while TV Guide presents it as a funny and moving Best Picture contender. The story follows a former revolutionary forced back into action to save his daughter.
That combination makes it a useful choice when you want action that is not only about momentum. It aims for humor, emotion, and scale at the same time, giving the list a more expansive and critically recognized option than a conventional shootout or chase movie.
7. Jack Ryan: Ghost War (2026)
Best for: a current, franchise-driven espionage blockbuster.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsJohn Krasinski, Wendell Pierce, and Sienna Miller lead this action film’s globetrotting mission involving rogue operatives and buried secrets. The franchise connection gives it an immediately familiar espionage framework, while the international scope promises movement between locations and threats.
Choose Jack Ryan: Ghost War when you want a newer release with recognizable series appeal rather than a standalone period piece or an experimental action comedy. It is also the clearest option for viewers who prefer intelligence operations and geopolitical stakes to purely physical combat.

8. The Bluff (2026)
Best for: pirate-era action.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Karl Urban star in this bloody pirate adventure, set in the Caribbean in 1846. The central premise follows a retired pirate defending her family, giving the film a personal protective mission inside a historical adventure setting.
The Bluff broadens the list beyond modern espionage, crime, and war. Pick it when you want period action, maritime danger, and a protagonist whose violent past becomes relevant when her family is threatened.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →9. Novocaine (2025)
Best for: high-concept action comedy.
Jack Quaid plays a bank employee who cannot feel pain. When a coworker is kidnapped, he uses that unusual condition to attempt a rescue.
The premise turns injury and endurance into the movie’s central action mechanism. That makes Novocaine a better fit for viewers who want absurdity and physical comedy alongside the danger. It is less about military competence or sleek spycraft and more about seeing an unlikely protagonist exploit the one characteristic that makes his situation possible.
10. Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse (2021)
Best for: military revenge action.
Amazon describes Michael B. Jordan’s John Clark as an elite Navy SEAL who uncovers an international conspiracy while seeking justice for his murdered pregnant wife. The combination of personal grief and a widening conspiracy places the film firmly in the military-revenge lane.
Choose it when you want a more serious, operational action movie with a trained protagonist and international stakes. It is darker and more direct than the lighter action-comedy options, and its emotional engine is revenge rather than an accidental rescue or a criminal scheme.

11. Sisu (2022)
Best for: compact, ultra-violent action.
Set during the final days of World War II, this lean and gory action film follows a solitary prospector confronting retreating Nazis in Finland. Its premise is deliberately stripped down: a lone figure, hostile forces, and escalating resistance.
Sisu is the pick for viewers who want intensity without a sprawling ensemble or complicated mythology. The violence is extreme, so it is not the safest recommendation for a casual family movie session. For everyone else, it offers a concise burst of brutal action with a distinctive historical setting.
12. Black Bag (2025)
Best for: sophisticated spy tension.
Steven Soderbergh’s espionage caper centers on married intelligence agents George and Kathryn Woodhouse, played by Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett. The marriage adds a layer of personal mistrust to the professional secrecy: the central tension is not simply who can win a fight, but what the characters know and whether they can trust each other.

Best for: anarchic action horror-comedy.
TV Guide classifies this offbeat film across action, horror, comedy, and music. Its deliberately surreal tone makes it a fit for viewers who want violence and chase energy without the seriousness of a military thriller or the polished scale of a superhero movie.
Go with Get Duked! when conventional genre expectations sound dull. The mix of horror, comedy, music, and action makes it one of the list’s most unusual choices—and one of the least appropriate if you want a grounded or solemn action story.
14. Superman (2025)
Best for: mainstream superhero spectacle.
James Gunn’s reboot stars David Corenswet as Superman. TV Guide describes it as a lighter and more humorous alternative to the previous DC tone, so it is aimed at viewers who want a familiar comic-book hero presented with a more playful sensibility.
It is the obvious pick when the desired action involves superhero-scale spectacle rather than crime, espionage, or historical combat. Viewers who prefer a darker superhero approach may find its lighter tone less aligned with their mood; viewers seeking a broadly accessible blockbuster may find it the most inviting option here.
15. Masters of the Universe (2026)
Best for: fantasy-action spectacle.
This Amazon MGM Studios adaptation is directed by Travis Knight and classified as fantasy with a PG-13 rating. Its inclusion gives the watchlist a franchise-fantasy option distinct from both Superman and the more realistic espionage titles.
Select it when you want a large-scale fantasy world and a recognizable property rather than a grounded chase or revenge story. As with every new release on a changing service catalog, verify the current Prime Video offer and regional availability before planning a group viewing.
16. The Accountant 2 (2025)
Best for: a darker action-comedy—if you are willing to rent.
Amazon’s title description has Ben Affleck’s Christian Wolff teaming with his lethal brother to investigate a murder and a wider conspiracy. The sibling partnership gives the sequel a different dynamic from a solitary-protagonist thriller while keeping the story rooted in dangerous investigative action.

How to choose without scrolling forever
For the quickest burst of action, choose Road House. For a plot built around intelligence and preparation, choose The Amateur. Play Dirty is the cleanest heist pick, while The Tomorrow War supplies the largest science-fiction scale.
If you would rather watch atmosphere and character tension build, choose To Live and Die in L.A. or Black Bag. For a more critically ambitious adventure, select One Battle After Another. Sisu is the most concentrated violent option, and Get Duked! is the most deliberately strange.
Finally, use Jack Ryan: Ghost War for current franchise espionage, The Bluff for pirate-era adventure, Superman or Masters of the Universe for broad spectacle, and Novocaine when the action needs a comic high concept.
