Kenny Loggins is asking Donald Trump to remove his recording of “Danger Zone” from an AI-generated video shared on Truth Social. Loggins said the use was unauthorized, that nobody sought his permission, and that he would have refused it. He also objected to having his music associated with political content he viewed as divisive.
The approximately 19-second clip, shared by Trump on October 18, 2025, portrayed a crowned “King Trump” piloting a fighter jet marked “King Trump.” It appeared to show the aircraft dropping brown material resembling excrement on people below in a parody aimed at the nationwide No Kings protests. The video used Loggins’ recording of “Danger Zone,” the song most closely associated with the 1986 fighter-jet film Top Gun. Associated Press; Variety

Loggins’ objection was not limited to the mechanics of licensing. He also questioned why anyone would want his music connected with content created to divide people. His public response emphasized a more unifying use of music rather than an “us and them” political message. Variety; Digital Music News
Loggins’ position, as reported, is that his recording was used without authorization and that he did not want it associated with divisive political content.
That is different from saying that Loggins has sued Trump, that a court has found infringement, or that every right connected with the song belongs to Loggins. The available reporting establishes his objection and removal request, not the outcome of a legal dispute.
What the “King Trump” video showed
News reports described the clip as AI-generated or digitally animated rather than ordinary documentary footage. It used a crown, the “King Trump” label, and a fighter jet to present Trump as a monarch-like pilot. The aircraft then appeared to release a brown payload over people depicted below. Associated Press; Variety
The imagery was presented as a mocking response to No Kings demonstrations, whose name and symbolism criticize the idea of unchecked or monarchical presidential power. The video inverted that message by embracing the “King Trump” image and turning it into a political taunt aimed at the protesters.

Trump shared the video, but the available reporting does not establish who originally generated it. It is therefore more accurate to say that Trump shared an AI-generated video than to say that he personally created the clip.
Likewise, the brown material should be described as appearing to resemble excrement. The reports do not provide a scientific identification of what the animation depicted.
Why “Danger Zone” was such a pointed choice
“Danger Zone” functions as more than background music in this clip. The song’s association with Top Gun immediately evokes fighter jets, military bravado, and high-speed aviation. Pairing it with an animated Trump flying a jet made the parody legible even before the political imagery was considered.
Official Kenny Loggins catalog information identifies the track as “Danger Zone (From ‘Top Gun’ Original Soundtrack).” Catalog metadata associates the soundtrack with Columbia Records and Sony Music Entertainment. Amazon Music lists the song on Top Gun – Motion Picture Soundtrack (Special Expanded Edition) and gives the track a 1986 release context. Kenny Loggins official artist listing; Amazon Music
For readers interested in the song’s original film context, look for the Top Gun original motion-picture soundtrack. Availability, format, edition, and price can vary, so the current physical listing should be checked before purchase.

A soundtrack purchase is separate from the controversy. Buying the album does not grant permission to reuse “Danger Zone” in a political video, endorse either side of the dispute, or resolve any question about authorization.
The rights question is more complicated than one song title
The dispute also illustrates why “the rights to a song” is not always a single, simple category. There are several related elements:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
| Element | What it means here |
|---|---|
| The composition | The underlying musical work: the melody, lyrics, and songwriting rights. |
| Loggins’ performance | The specific recorded performance that Loggins said was used without authorization. |
| The film soundtrack | The album and Top Gun context that made the recording broadly recognizable. |
| The social-media use | The incorporation of the recording into a political or satirical video shared online. |
Those categories can involve different rights, owners, licenses, and permissions. Loggins’ statement specifically concerned the use of his performance. The available sources do not map the complete rights chain for the composition, master recording, soundtrack, video, or social-media post. It would therefore be premature to declare a definitive legal violation based only on the public statements reported so far.
Timeline of the dispute
- October 18, 2025: Trump shared the approximately 19-second “King Trump” video on Truth Social.
- October 19, 2025: Coverage identified the use of Loggins’ “Danger Zone” and described the clip as a response to the No Kings protests.
- October 20–21, 2025: Variety, the Associated Press, Digital Music News, and AP-affiliated local television outlets reported Loggins’ objection and request for removal.
Was the video removed?
The researched reports confirm that Loggins requested immediate removal of his recording. They do not establish whether the original Truth Social post was later deleted, muted, edited, or otherwise changed. Unless the post’s current status or an official follow-up is independently verified, it is safest to report the request rather than claim a final platform outcome.

The cultural afterlife of “Danger Zone”
The controversy works because the song carries a strong visual and cultural identity. “Danger Zone” is linked not only to Kenny Loggins but also to Top Gun, whose fighter-jet imagery has made the track a shorthand for airborne action and military-style spectacle. Giorgio Moroder’s official website likewise lists the Top Gun project and Loggins’ “Danger Zone” among its associated music.

That cultural familiarity helped the clip communicate its joke quickly. It also explains why Loggins objected to the association: a recording that audiences recognize instantly was placed inside a political message he said he had not approved and would not have approved.
At this stage, the story is best understood as a public objection and removal demand involving a highly recognizable recording—not as a resolved copyright case. Any later statement from Loggins, a rights-holder, Trump, or Truth Social could clarify what happened to the post or whether the dispute progressed further.
