The 2025 Apple TV 4K refresh did not arrive. As of August 12, 2026, Apple has not announced a successor. Recent reports point to a possible 2026 launch, perhaps in autumn, with a faster chip and upgraded connectivity—but every specification and date remains unconfirmed.
The 2025 Apple TV 4K refresh did not arrive. As of August 12, 2026, Apple has still not announced a successor to the third-generation Apple TV 4K. Recent reporting has shifted the expected window to 2026, with autumn mentioned as a possibility, but there is no confirmed launch date, price, design, or specification.
The safest expectation is an internal refresh rather than a dramatic redesign: a newer A-series processor, upgraded wireless hardware, and perhaps better support for future Siri features. Those details remain rumors. Apple’s current Apple TV 4K is still supported and remains a strong buy for anyone who needs a streaming box now.

What Apple sells today: the third-generation Apple TV 4K
The current Apple TV 4K is the third-generation model introduced in October 2022 and made available on November 4, 2022. It uses Apple’s A15 Bionic chip and supports 4K video at up to 60 frames per second, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Atmos, subject to the capabilities of the television, receiver, cables, and content.

- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
- 64GB Wi-Fi: $199.
- 128GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet: $249, with Gigabit Ethernet and Thread networking for compatible smart-home accessories.
Those are the current US store prices, not predictions for the rumored successor. Apple’s pricing and inventory can change, so check the current listing before publishing or purchasing. The HDMI and USB-C cables are sold separately.
The current technical baseline includes HDMI 2.1, Wi-Fi 6 with 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0, an infrared receiver, and an integrated power supply. The Ethernet-capable version adds a physical Gigabit Ethernet port and Thread networking. The included third-generation Siri Remote uses Bluetooth 5.0 and charges through USB-C.
In practical terms, the existing model already handles the features most people expect from a premium streaming box: 4K HDR playback, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos, Apple services, apps, AirPlay, games, and smart-home control. It also supports HDMI Quick Media Switching when the connected equipment and content meet Apple’s requirements.

A newer A-series processor
The most repeated hardware rumor is a newer A-series chip, with the A17 Pro specifically mentioned in some reports. That would give the box more performance headroom than the current A15 Bionic and could improve demanding games, app longevity, and system responsiveness.
However, “A17 Pro” is not an Apple-confirmed specification. There is also no reliable performance test for an unannounced Apple TV, so claims about exact gaming gains, frame rates, or graphics performance should be treated as speculation rather than product facts.
Apple-designed networking hardware
Reports also describe a custom Apple networking chip, sometimes referred to in coverage as the N1. Possible upgrades include Wi-Fi 6E, with Wi-Fi 7 appearing as a less certain possibility, and Bluetooth 5.3 instead of the current model’s Bluetooth 5.0.
These standards could make the box better suited to busy wireless networks, newer routers, connected accessories, and future Apple services. They would not automatically make a streaming picture look better: video quality still depends primarily on the source, the app, the display, and the supported HDR and audio formats.

Until Apple publishes technical specifications, none of the N1, Wi-Fi 6E, Wi-Fi 7, or Bluetooth 5.3 claims should be presented as final.
Possible Siri and Apple Intelligence features
Some reporting connects the future Apple TV to Apple’s delayed Siri and artificial-intelligence work. The basic theory is straightforward: a newer processor could provide more capacity for advanced living-room voice features and other software functions.

That does not mean the next Apple TV is confirmed to run Apple Intelligence. Apple has not said which Siri features will be available, whether processing will happen locally or with cloud assistance, or what hardware requirements will apply. A faster chip may be necessary for future features, but it does not establish that those features will ship on the device.
Apple’s current tvOS 26 software adds features including a Liquid Glass design, a redesigned Apple TV app, and updates to FaceTime and Aerial screen savers on supported hardware. Those are software features for compatible existing Apple TV devices; they should not be confused with rumored hardware-exclusive AI capabilities.

The prevailing expectation is that Apple will retain the compact black set-top-box design used by the current Apple TV 4K, putting most of the changes inside the enclosure.
There have been no confirmed details establishing a new enclosure, built-in camera, redesigned remote, or major change to the device’s dimensions. A familiar design would make sense if Apple’s priorities are processor, networking, and software improvements, but it remains a rumor-based expectation rather than a confirmed decision.
Could the next Apple TV 4K cost less than $100?
A lower price is one of the more interesting rumors. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has been reported as identifying a sub-$100 price as a desirable “sweet spot” for a next-generation Apple TV.
That is not the same as Apple setting a retail price below $100. The current Apple TV 4K starts at $199 in the United States, and the $249 Ethernet model costs considerably more. Apple could launch a cheaper successor, retain the current pricing, offer fewer configurations, or change the storage and networking options. None of those outcomes is confirmed.
Price is therefore a reason to wait, not a reason to assume a bargain is coming. Anyone who needs a device now should make the decision based on the current product rather than an unannounced discount.
When might Apple announce it?
The original expectation was a 2025 release, but that window passed. More recent reporting places the product in 2026. Later reports citing Mark Gurman have described the new TV box as nearly ready or ready and have connected it with Apple’s Siri rollout. A July 2026 report mentioned a possible autumn launch.
The appropriate confidence level is:
- Medium confidence: Apple may launch an updated Apple TV 4K during 2026.
- Low to medium confidence: the launch could happen in autumn 2026.
- No confidence: in any precise launch date, event, price, or final specification that Apple has not announced.
Do not treat “autumn 2026” as a confirmed release schedule. Apple could announce the product at an event, introduce it through a press release, delay it again, or decide that the rumored timetable was inaccurate.

Should you buy the current Apple TV 4K or wait?
Buy now if you:
- Need a reliable streaming box immediately.
- Want 4K HDR, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos, AirPlay, and Apple’s tvOS interface today.
- Have an older or slow television operating system.
- Want an Apple smart-home hub, Thread support, or wired Ethernet now.
- Are replacing a lost or failing streaming device rather than chasing unconfirmed features.
The current model is not obsolete. Apple continues to document it, and it supports tvOS 26. For ordinary streaming, a newer chip may not produce a visible benefit on a television that already displays the current Apple TV 4K’s supported formats.
If you decide to buy, the current Apple TV 4K is the product available today—not the rumored successor. Check the exact generation, storage capacity, seller, and configuration before ordering.
Wait if you:
- Already own a working Apple TV 4K and are not in a hurry.
- Care most about a newer processor for gaming or demanding future software.
- Want newer Wi-Fi or Bluetooth standards.
- Are interested in possible next-generation Siri capabilities.
- Would consider buying only if Apple introduces a substantially lower price.
Waiting is particularly sensible when the current box already meets your streaming needs. You can then compare the official processor, networking standards, storage, price, remote, and software support rather than buying on rumor alone.
Do not wait solely for a better picture
The rumored refresh may improve processing and connectivity, but there is no confirmed evidence that it will introduce a dramatic upgrade to streaming picture quality. The current model already supports 4K at up to 60fps, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG. If your television and streaming subscriptions already support those formats, the biggest prospective gains are performance, networking, price, and software—not necessarily a new class of image quality.
What you need to set up an Apple TV 4K
1. HDMI cable
Apple requires a separate HDMI cable. For 4K HDR, Apple’s setup guidance calls for HDMI 2.0 or later; HDMI 2.1 can be used to access all available Apple TV features. Choose a suitably rated cable for the resolution, refresh rate, HDR formats, and receiver or soundbar in your setup. The cable does not need to be an Apple-branded product, and a particular third-party brand should not be treated as Apple-endorsed.
A cable labeled as an HDMI 2.1 cable for Apple TV 4K can be useful when connecting to newer HDMI 2.1 equipment, but the label alone does not guarantee every feature in a complicated chain. If you experience a blank screen, intermittent signal, or missing HDR, test the cable directly between the Apple TV and television and confirm that the television input supports the required format.
2. Ethernet cable, if you choose wired networking
An Ethernet cable is optional and relevant only to a model with an Ethernet port. The 128GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet Apple TV 4K supports Gigabit Ethernet; the 64GB Wi-Fi model does not provide that port.
Wired networking can be useful when the Apple TV is near a router, when Wi-Fi is congested, or when a stable connection matters more than installation convenience. It is not required for normal streaming, and buying an Ethernet cable cannot add wired networking to the Wi-Fi-only configuration. For that setup, use a suitable Gigabit Ethernet cable and connect it from the Apple TV to the router or network switch.
3. Replacement Siri Remote, only when needed
The third-generation Siri Remote uses Bluetooth 5.0 and USB-C charging. Apple sells the remote separately, and Apple documents compatibility with Apple TV 4K generations and Apple TV HD. Existing owners who have lost or damaged their controller can look for an Apple TV Siri Remote USB-C replacement, checking compatibility and seller details carefully.

Bottom line
The “new Apple TV 4K rumored for 2025” is now a delayed, still-unannounced product. Current reporting makes a 2026 refresh plausible and suggests that Apple may focus on a faster processor, updated connectivity, and future Siri-related capabilities while retaining a familiar design. None of those details is guaranteed.
If your current Apple TV works, waiting for Apple’s official announcement is the sensible choice. If you need a streaming box now, the third-generation Apple TV 4K remains current, capable, and supported. Buy it for what it does today—not for the rumored successor it may eventually replace.
