What happened in the ninth round?
The fight’s most significant controversy came in the ninth round. Davis took a knee after a jab and went back toward his corner while grease was wiped from his eye. The referee did not count the sequence as a knockdown.
Roach argued afterward that the incident should have been scored a knockdown. Davis said the knee happened because grease had entered his eye. The fight took place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. PBC reported a sold-out attendance of 19,250 and said the event set the arena’s all-time attendance record while becoming the venue’s second-highest-grossing event.
