To log into Amazon Prime on a TV, open the Prime Video app—not a separate “Amazon Prime” app—then choose Sign in or Register. Scan the QR code shown on the television, enter the displayed code through Amazon’s official device-registration page, or type your Amazon email and password directly on the TV if that option appears.
The exact wording and screen sequence vary by television model, operating system, region, and Prime Video app version. The steps below cover the supported sign-in methods and the most common fixes.
Quick fix
- Connect the TV to the internet.
- Open or install the Prime Video app.
- Select Sign in, Register, or a similarly named option.
- Scan the QR code with your phone, enter the TV code on Amazon’s official registration page, or sign in directly on the TV.
- Wait for the Prime Video home screen to appear under the correct Amazon account.
If Prime Video is missing from the TV’s app store, the television may not support the app. In that case, check the exact TV model or use a compatible external streaming device.
Before you start
- Make sure the TV is connected to the internet.
- Have access to the Amazon account that includes the intended Prime Video access.
- Keep a phone or computer nearby if the TV offers QR-code or code-based registration.
- If you plan to use mobile-app sign-in, connect the phone to the same home network as the TV.
An Amazon account and a Prime Video entitlement are not necessarily the same thing. Confirm that you are using the account associated with the Prime Video access you want to watch. If you use the wrong Amazon account, the app may open successfully but show the wrong subscriptions, profiles, or purchased content.

How to sign in on a smart TV
1. Find Prime Video in the TV’s app store
Open the television’s app store and search for Prime Video. On some TVs it is already installed, so you can find it from the home screen or the list of installed apps.
If the app is not installed, select the install or download option and wait for installation to finish. Open the app when it is ready.
2. Choose the sign-in option
When Prime Video opens, choose Sign in, Register, or an equivalent option. The label depends on the TV and app version.

- QR code: Scan the code displayed on the TV with your phone and follow the official sign-in instructions.
- TV registration code: On a phone or computer, open the official Amazon or Prime Video device-registration page and enter the code shown on the TV.
- Direct sign-in: Enter the Amazon account email address and password using the TV remote, if the app provides that option.
- Mobile-app notification: If the Prime Video mobile app is installed and the phone is on the same home network, accept the sign-in notification if one appears.
3. Confirm the TV is registered
After the QR code, registration code, notification, or credentials are accepted, return to the TV. Prime Video should load its home screen under the selected Amazon account.
If the TV remains on the sign-in screen, close and reopen Prime Video. If that does not help, start a new registration attempt and use the newly displayed code rather than an earlier one.

If Prime Video is already installed
You do not need to reinstall Prime Video simply because it is asking you to sign in. Open the existing app and select its sign-in or registration option. Follow the QR-code, code-entry, mobile-notification, or direct-credential method shown on that particular TV.
Reinstalling is more appropriate when the app is missing, corrupted, repeatedly crashes, or does not return after the TV has been reset. If the app is available but refuses to open, first check the TV’s internet connection and whether the TV platform offers an app update.

Fire TV and Fire TV Stick are different types of devices:
- A Fire TV television has Amazon’s Fire TV platform built into the television.
- A Fire TV Stick is an external streaming device that plugs into an HDMI port and adds a Fire TV interface to a compatible television.
Both provide access to Prime Video through the Prime Video app. During initial setup, the device normally asks you to register it with an Amazon account. Follow the on-screen sign-in instructions and use the account with the intended Prime Video access.
If registration was skipped or did not complete, open the device’s account or settings area and look for the registration option. Then complete the QR-code, code-entry, notification, or direct-sign-in process presented on screen.
Prime Video also supports profiles on Fire TV through the app, but available features can vary by device, account, region, and catalog.

What to do if your TV does not support Prime Video
Prime Video is supported on selected smart-TV models and configurations, not automatically on every television from a supported brand. Amazon lists devices from manufacturers including Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, LG, VIZIO, Hisense, Philips, Sharp, JVC, Grundig, TCL, AOC, Konka, Xiaomi, Skyworth, and Changhong, but support and features can vary by exact model.
Search the TV’s app store for Prime Video first. If it does not appear, check the model-specific support information for your television. Do not assume that a brand name alone proves compatibility.
Fix common Prime Video sign-in problems
The password or account is wrong
Check the email address carefully and make sure it belongs to the Amazon account with the desired Prime Video access. If you have forgotten the password, use Amazon’s password-reset process instead of repeatedly trying guesses with the TV remote.
If another household member’s account is already registered, sign out or deregister the device before attempting to use your account.
The registration code does not work
- Return to the Prime Video sign-in screen on the TV.
- Start a fresh registration attempt.
- Use only the newly displayed code.
- Enter it through the official Amazon or Prime Video registration flow.
Codes can expire or become invalid when a new registration attempt generates a replacement code. Never give the code or your Amazon password to someone who contacts you unexpectedly by phone, text, email, or social media.

There is a temporary connection error
Try the sign-in process again. Also check that:
- The TV is still connected to the internet.
- The phone and TV are on the same home network when using mobile-app registration.
- The Prime Video app is current, if the TV platform supports app updates.
- The TV has not lost its connection while the code was being entered.
If other apps also cannot connect, restart the TV and home-network equipment, then try Prime Video again. If only Prime Video is affected, close and reopen the app before considering a reinstall.

The TV is linked to the wrong Amazon account
If you cannot sign out from the television, use Prime Video’s account and device settings on the website. Open Account & Settings > Devices, find the television or streaming device, and choose Deregister. Then reopen Prime Video on the TV and register it with the intended Amazon account.
Take care when deregistering: identify the correct television or device before removing it, especially if several devices use the same Amazon account.
An old device is still registered
Remove unused or obsolete devices from the account’s device-management area, then retry registration on the TV. Avoid relying on a universal “maximum number of devices” figure: limits and enforcement can vary by service, account, region, and device type.

- Use only the sign-in method displayed by the Prime Video app.
- Enter registration codes only through an official Amazon or Prime Video page reached through the app or Amazon’s own website.
- Never share your Amazon password, one-time code, or TV registration code with an unsolicited caller or message sender.
- Do not use a phone number supplied by a stranger claiming to be Amazon support.
- If you accidentally register a shared or public TV, deregister it afterward and review the devices connected to your account.
A legitimate support process may ask you to enter a code into an official registration page, but it should not require you to disclose that code or your password to another person.

Successfully logging in does not guarantee that every Prime Video feature will be available on every TV. Capabilities can vary by exact model, configuration, device platform, region, and the particular title being watched.

Video quality, audio formats, live streaming, advertising features, profiles, subtitles, and audio description support may differ. In particular, do not assume that a TV will provide 4K resolution, Dolby Atmos, every profile feature, or every accessibility option merely because Prime Video installed successfully.

No. A Fire TV Stick is optional when the television already supports the Prime Video app. It can be useful when the TV lacks the app or its built-in platform is no longer supported.
