These were the 10 best editorial picks from Tubi’s U.S. May 2025 lineup—not a claim about what remains on the service now. The selection ranged from Batman (1989) and The Goonies to Everything Everywhere All at Once, Ex Machina, and Gladiator. Use the guide below to choose by mood, and check Tubi’s current local catalog before planning your watch.
Important: This is a historical U.S. catalog snapshot for May 2025, not a guarantee that these movies are still available on Tubi. Tubi’s free, ad-supported catalog rotates as licensing agreements change. The titles below were announced for the May 2025 lineup, with most beginning to stream on May 1 unless otherwise noted.
The selection was unusually broad: a gothic superhero classic, a family treasure hunt, Oscar-winning science fiction, a space epic, a historical revenge drama, and several recognizable comedies and franchise movies. The list is editorial curation rather than an objective ranking, so the best choice depends on the kind of movie night you want.
Quick picks: what should you watch first?
| If you want… | Start with… | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A family adventure | The Goonies | A pirate map, youthful ensemble chemistry, and classic 1980s escapism. |
| Inventive, emotional prestige entertainment | Everything Everywhere All at Once | Multiverse science fiction wrapped around a family story, martial arts, and absurdist comedy. |
| Superhero nostalgia | Batman (1989) | Tim Burton’s gothic Gotham, Michael Keaton’s restrained Bruce Wayne, and Jack Nicholson’s flamboyant Joker. |
| Cerebral science fiction | Ex Machina | A tense, contained examination of artificial intelligence, power, and manipulation. |
| A traditional action epic | Gladiator | A direct revenge story with battlefield spectacle and a commanding central performance. |
The 10 best movies on Tubi in the May 2025 U.S. lineup
1. Batman (1989)
Tim Burton’s Batman is the safest all-purpose recommendation in this lineup. It remains a visually distinctive superhero movie, built around gothic production design, shadowy streets, and a version of Gotham that feels closer to a comic-book nightmare than a modern city. Michael Keaton plays Bruce Wayne and Batman with unusual restraint, while Jack Nicholson’s Joker supplies the movie’s louder, more theatrical energy. Kim Basinger co-stars as Vicki Vale.

- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
The contrast between Keaton’s controlled performance and Nicholson’s flamboyant villainy gives the film its shape. It is less interested in superhero realism than in atmosphere, iconography, and the collision between two highly stylized personalities.
Best for: viewers who want superhero nostalgia, gothic fantasy, and a recognizable origin-style story. During the same May window, Tubi also carried Batman Returns and Batman Forever, making a compact Batman marathon possible. This recommendation refers to the 1989 film—not a later Batman movie or the 2021 version of Justice League.
2. Justice League (2017)
The theatrical 2017 Justice League is the convenient team-up choice: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash, and Cyborg join forces against a large-scale threat. It offers the recognizable DC ensemble and comic-book spectacle that many viewers want from a franchise movie.
It is also important to set expectations. The theatrical cut has a mixed reputation, and it should not be presented as an undisputed masterpiece. It is distinct from Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the substantially longer director’s cut released later. If you are comparing the two versions, Tubi’s May 2025 listing identified the 2017 theatrical film.

Best for: DC completionists, superhero fans, and viewers who want a broad ensemble adventure rather than a focused character study.
3. The Goonies (1985)
The Goonies is the strongest family-movie recommendation on the list. A group of young friends discovers a pirate-treasure mystery while trying to save their homes, sending them through maps, traps, tunnels, and increasingly dangerous obstacles. Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Martha Plimpton, and Ke Huy Quan are among the ensemble cast.
The movie’s appeal comes less from a complicated plot than from its group chemistry and clear adventure engine. The pirate-map premise gives children a vivid fantasy to follow, while the practical sets and escalating puzzles provide the kind of physical momentum that still works for a shared movie night.

- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
Best for: families, nostalgic viewers, and younger audiences who enjoy treasure hunts and old-fashioned adventure. Parents should still use their own judgment about the film’s peril, scares, and rough language.
Want to keep the adventure beyond Tubi? A physical copy such as The Goonies Blu-ray can make sense for a movie that may rotate out of a streaming catalog. Check the exact edition, seller, price, and availability before purchasing.
4. Weird Science (1985)
John Hughes’ Weird Science is the cult-comedy outlier. Two socially awkward teenagers use a computer experiment to create Lisa, an idealized woman who becomes a supernatural force pushing them toward confidence, chaos, and adventure.
Its fantasy-comedy structure and aggressively 1980s tone make it a useful choice for viewers who want something stranger than a conventional teen movie. It is not, however, an uncomplicated nostalgia pick. The premise is dated, and the film contains sexualized teenage-comedy material and period-specific attitudes. It should not be marketed as a children’s or family recommendation simply because it is an older movie.
Best for: adults seeking an eccentric 1980s cult comedy and fans of Hughes’ less conventional work.

Everything Everywhere All at Once is the prestige and recent-awards anchor of the May lineup. Evelyn Wang, a Chinese American laundromat owner facing an IRS audit, becomes entangled with parallel versions of herself and a threat spanning multiple realities.
The multiverse concept is only the outer mechanism. The film’s emotional center is Evelyn’s family: her relationship with her husband, her daughter, and the life she might have lived under different circumstances. The movie combines martial-arts action, science fiction, absurdist comedy, romance, and family drama without settling into just one genre.
Its seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, make it the obvious recent prestige selection here, but awards are not its only strength. Its visual invention and emotional density reward a viewer willing to accept abrupt tonal changes and deliberately ridiculous details.

Robin Williams plays Daniel Hillard, a divorced father who disguises himself as a British nanny so he can spend more time with his children. The setup creates room for Williams’ broad comic performance, elaborate physical humor, and rapid changes of voice and personality.
The film works better when the disguise is understood as part of Daniel’s larger problem rather than as a consequence-free comic trick. Beneath the makeup and frantic household scenes is a story about divorce, parenting, accountability, and the need to become more responsible. Its family reconciliation is sentimental, but the emotional stakes give the comedy more durability than a simple costume farce.
Best for: viewers looking for a familiar Robin Williams comedy that also has a family-drama component. Its treatment of divorce and parental behavior may warrant a conversation with younger viewers.
7. The Fast and the Furious (2001)
The first Fast and the Furious is an accessible entry point to the long-running action franchise. Undercover police officer Brian O’Conner infiltrates a street-racing crew led by Dominic Toretto, creating a story about loyalty, identity, cars, and the tension between professional duty and personal attachment.
Recommended Free Tools
Compared with the later sequels, the original is more tightly focused on street racing and undercover-crime mechanics. Its smaller scale is part of its appeal: you can see the franchise’s basic relationships and themes before the series expands into globe-spanning action.
Best for: viewers starting the franchise or looking for a straightforward action movie with car culture at its center. Tubi’s May 2025 slate also included 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast & Furious 6, and Furious 7, but that was a partial marathon—not every installment in the saga.

8. Ex Machina (2014)
Ex Machina is the concentrated science-fiction thriller for viewers who prefer ethical tension to spectacle. A young programmer is invited to evaluate an advanced humanoid artificial intelligence, but the evaluation becomes entangled with questions about consciousness, manipulation, power, and control.
The film’s small cast, controlled setting, and deliberate pace create an atmosphere of suspicion. Rather than relying on constant exposition, it makes the viewer assess every conversation and shifting relationship. Its strongest selling points are the performances, elegant visual design, and uneasy ideas about who gets to create, test, own, or control an intelligent being.
Best for: viewers who want cerebral, contained science fiction. It pairs especially well with Everything Everywhere All at Once: both approach speculative ideas ambitiously, but Ex Machina is colder, quieter, and much more claustrophobic.
9. Interstellar (2014)
Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar is the May lineup’s large-scale space epic. Astronauts leave a deteriorating Earth in search of a future for humanity, while the story explores family separation, time dilation, sacrifice, and the emotional consequences of space travel.
This is a film for a planned movie night rather than casual background viewing. Its scale, long runtime, serious tone, and competing scientific and emotional ideas demand attention. The reward is an expansive combination of space imagery and intimate family drama, with the fate of humanity repeatedly connected to the fate of one family.
Best for: viewers who want ambitious visuals, a serious science-fiction premise, and a deeply earnest emotional register. If you prefer compact thrillers, choose Ex Machina instead.
10. Gladiator (2000)
Gladiator supplies the list’s most classical crowd-pleaser. It follows a wronged military commander who is forced into slavery and the arena, then pursues revenge against the political power that destroyed his life.

The movie is built from familiar epic ingredients—battlefield spectacle, political betrayal, public combat, and a fallen hero—but its direct emotional structure is precisely why it remains easy to recommend. It gives a movie night a clear arc, a strong central performance, and enough scale to feel like an event.
Best for: viewers seeking a traditional historical-action drama, a revenge story, and a star-driven epic. Its violence and serious subject matter make it a better choice for older viewers than for a general family audience.

- For superhero fans: Begin with Batman (1989) for the strongest standalone recommendation; choose Justice League for a large DC ensemble.

- For a Robin Williams comedy: Mrs. Doubtfire combines broad humor with a story about parental responsibility and reconciliation.
What “on Tubi in May 2025” actually means
The evidence for this list supports U.S. availability during the May 2025 launch window. Tubi’s announcement said the listed movies would begin streaming free on May 1 unless otherwise noted. “Free” refers to Tubi’s ad-supported streaming model; it does not mean the titles are permanently available or that every title is offered in every country.

Tubi rotates its catalog as rights change. A current Tubi catalog search cannot prove that every one of these films remains available after the May 2025 window, and availability may differ by country or licensing territory. If you are reading this after May 2025, search for the title directly in your local Tubi app or website before planning a movie night. Playback can also depend on the device and region supported by Tubi at the time you watch.
Final watch-first shortlist
If you only have time for four selections from this historical lineup, choose The Goonies for family adventure, Everything Everywhere All at Once for inventive prestige entertainment, Batman (1989) for superhero nostalgia, and Ex Machina for cerebral science fiction. Together they show the range of the May 2025 Tubi slate without pretending that one movie can be the best choice for every viewer.
