To watch Amazon Prime Video offline, download an eligible title inside the official Prime Video app on a supported device. Prime Video does not treat these downloads as ordinary video files that can be freely saved or transferred.
Download Prime Video titles inside the official app
To watch Amazon Prime Video offline, install the official Prime Video app on a supported device, sign in to the account that has access to the title, open the movie or show, and choose the download control. The downloaded title is then watched from the app’s Downloads area—not as an ordinary MP4 file that you can freely move, rename, or play in another media player.
Amazon identifies these download environments: Fire tablets; the Prime Video app for iPhone and iPad; Android phones and tablets; Macs running the Prime Video app for macOS; and Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs running the Prime Video app. A web browser alone is not the download environment described in Amazon’s download instructions.
How to download a movie or show
- Install or open the Prime Video app. Use the app for your device rather than relying on a browser. Make sure it is the official Prime Video application.
- Sign in. Use the Amazon account with the relevant Prime membership, Prime Video subscription, rental, or purchase entitlement.
- Find the title. Search for the movie or television series and open its detail page.
- Start the download. Select the download option shown on the title page. The exact wording, icon, and location can vary by device and app version.
- Wait for completion. Keep the app open or check its download status until the title has finished downloading. A reliable Wi-Fi connection is preferable, especially for high-definition movies.
- Open Downloads. Go to the app’s Downloads section and select the title to watch without an internet connection.
How to download a full season or individual episodes
For a television series, open the show’s detail page and choose the control for downloading the season if the app provides one. To download only selected episodes, use the download icon or download control beside each episode.

This distinction matters when storage is limited. Downloading a whole season is convenient for a long trip, while individual episodes let you choose only the content you expect to watch.

If you want a dedicated portable screen for downloaded Prime Video titles, an Amazon Fire tablet is one of the device categories Amazon officially supports for offline downloads. It is optional, however: Prime Video also supports downloads through its iOS, Android, macOS, and Windows apps.
On Android and Windows, the app may let you choose where downloaded titles are stored. Amazon advises against saving them to USB-connected drives. Storage behavior and available settings can vary by device and app version.
Why a title may not have a download option
Prime Video does not guarantee that every title can be downloaded. A title’s detail page indicates whether a subscription title is available for download, and many—but not all—subscription titles are temporarily downloadable.

How long do Prime Video downloads remain available?
Subscription titles
Amazon’s general usage rules say that a downloaded subscription title is normally available for about 30 days to begin watching. After playback starts, you generally have about 48 hours to finish watching.
These are general rules rather than an unconditional promise for every title, country, membership, or promotional arrangement. A title may display different restrictions. Offline access to subscription downloads also ends when the relevant Prime or Prime Video membership or trial ends, unless you separately rented or purchased that title.
Rented titles
A rental commonly remains in your video library for 30 days from the rental date. Once playback begins, it generally must be completed within at least 48 hours. The rental’s title page or rental terms can specify different conditions, so check them before downloading for a trip.
Purchased titles
Purchased titles will generally be available for streaming or download, although licensing restrictions or other limited circumstances can affect availability. A purchase should not be treated as permission to extract an unrestricted video file or copy the title to other people’s devices.

Downloading Prime Video before a flight or trip
Offline downloads are useful on flights, in hotels, on road trips, and anywhere mobile service or Wi-Fi may be unreliable. Download before leaving while you have a dependable connection.
- Connect to reliable Wi-Fi.
- Start the download before departure rather than at the airport or on the aircraft.
- Confirm that the title appears in the app’s Downloads area.
- If practical, open the downloaded title briefly while still online.
- Take the same signed-in device used for the download.
- Download more than one title if the trip is long, while allowing for storage limits and viewing windows.
The Prime Video catalog available for streaming can change outside your home country. Downloading eligible titles before travel can avoid relying on the catalog at your destination, but it does not remove the title’s licensing or expiration restrictions.
Do not assume that a VPN, browser extension, screen recorder, or third-party downloader will preserve access. Amazon’s supported workflow is downloading and playing the title inside the Prime Video app.
Can you watch a downloaded Prime Video title on a television?
Amazon says downloaded content cannot be played through Chromecast or AirPlay. The safest option is to watch the download on the device where it was downloaded.

Offline television playback may be possible with a supported device and the right wired connection, but compatibility is not universal. For offline viewing on a television, Amazon says supported devices may work with appropriate adapters; verify the exact device and adapter combination before buying a compatible HDMI adapter. An adapter does not bypass licensing restrictions or make an unsupported download transferable.
What Prime Video downloads are—and are not
A Prime Video download is app-managed offline content. It is not normally exposed as a portable video file for unrestricted use. Avoid trying to:
- rename the downloaded files;
- move them into VLC or another media player;
- copy them to another person’s device;
- upload them to cloud storage as ordinary videos;
- play them through unsupported casting routes; or
- use screen-recording or DRM-removal tools to create a permanent copy.
These actions are not established by Amazon’s official download instructions, may fail technically, and may conflict with service terms. Use the Prime Video app’s Downloads section on the supported device instead.

Troubleshooting Prime Video downloads
There is no download icon
Confirm that you are using the official Prime Video app and are viewing the title’s detail page. Check that the signed-in account has access to the title. If the download control is still missing, the title may not be downloadable in your region, under your entitlement, or on that device.
The download fails or pauses
- Check the device’s available storage.
- Reconnect to a stable Wi-Fi network.
- Confirm that the app is still signed in.
- Check whether the device and operating system remain supported.
- Retry from the title page after the connection is stable.
There is no universal guarantee that deleting unrelated app data will fix a failed download. If the problem continues, the issue may involve the title, account, app, device, network, or licensing availability.

The download is present but will not play
Check whether the subscription, trial, rental, or purchase is still valid and whether the viewing window has expired. Also make sure you are opening the title from the app’s Downloads section on the device where it was downloaded. Chromecast and AirPlay are unsupported routes for downloaded content.
You want to move the download to another device
Prime Video downloads are tied to the app and supported device workflow. They are not ordinary transferable video files. The practical solution is to sign in to the Prime Video app on the other supported device and download the title there, if the title and account allow it.
