Open Instagram’s Reels Watch History
In the Instagram mobile app, go to Profile → ☰ → Settings and activity (or Settings) → Your activity → Watch History. You can then browse Reels you have watched and, where available, narrow the list by date or account.
Instagram’s Reels Watch History was publicly reported as introduced on October 24, 2025. The feature is rolling out through Instagram’s interface, so labels and availability can differ by account, region, device, and app version. Engadget reported on the launch, while Social Media Today documented the available filtering options.
Step-by-step: find Reels you watched
- Open Instagram and sign in to the account whose history you want to check.
- Tap your profile picture in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap the three-line menu in the top-right corner.
- Choose Settings and activity. Some versions of Instagram may call this Settings.
- Scroll to How you use Instagram, or open Your activity.
- Tap Watch History.
- Browse the Reels shown in the list. If your account has the relevant controls, use a date, date-range, sorting, or account filter to find a particular Reel.
The names and position of these controls are not necessarily permanent. Instagram frequently tests and rearranges settings, and the available filters may not be identical for every user.

What Instagram Reels Watch History includes
This is a history of Reels watched on Instagram. It should not be treated as a universal record of everything you have viewed in the app. The available launch information does not establish that it includes every Story, photo post, advertisement, Direct Message, or other Instagram surface.
It also should not be confused with Reels Insights. Insights are creator-facing performance statistics for a Reel, including watch time and replay time; they are not a viewer’s personal list of watched Reels. Meta’s Reels Insights documentation describes those metrics separately.
How to narrow the list
After opening Watch History:
- Use a date or date-range filter if you remember approximately when you saw the Reel.
- Use an account filter if you remember the creator.
- Try available sorting controls if the list is displayed in a different order than expected.
- Open a Reel from the results to confirm that it is the video you were trying to recover.
Do not assume that every partial view will appear or that Instagram keeps the list indefinitely. Instagram’s publicly available documentation does not provide a stable specification for retention duration, minimum watch time, or whether the history is identical across mobile and desktop. Treat Watch History as a useful recovery tool rather than a guaranteed, permanent archive.
Watch History is missing: what to try
If you cannot find Watch History, the feature may not yet be enabled for that account or the app may be showing a different settings layout. Try these checks in order:

- Update Instagram. Install the latest version available from your device’s official app store.
- Check the account. If several Instagram accounts are logged in, switch to the account whose watched Reel you are trying to find.
- Reopen the app. Force-close Instagram, open it again, and revisit Profile → ☰ → Your activity.
- Look for alternate labels. The menu may say Settings instead of Settings and activity, and Your activity may appear under a section such as How you use Instagram.
- Check Instagram’s Help Center. Settings can change after an app update, so use Instagram’s current help and account-management guidance if the path has moved. Meta describes Instagram’s account-management tools and updates through its official channels.
A missing entry does not necessarily mean that you never watched the Reel. The feature was newly introduced, and the available reporting does not establish a universal availability matrix for every account, country, phone, or app version.
Other ways to find a Reel
Watch History is most useful when it is available, but it is not the only recovery method. Try the option that matches what you remember doing:
Check your liked Reels
If you tapped the heart, look through Instagram’s Liked activity in Your activity. A like is a separate action from watching, so this will not find every Reel you viewed, but it can be faster than searching a long watch-history list.
Check your saved posts
If you used the bookmark icon, open your profile menu and go to Saved. Look through the relevant collection, if you placed the Reel in one. Saved items may be easier to organize than a general viewing list.

Search for the creator or distinctive terms
Search for any clue you remember: the creator’s username, words from the caption, a hashtag, or the name of the audio. A distinctive phrase from the spoken content may also help if it appeared in the caption or on-screen text.
Ask the sender to share it again
If the Reel came to you in a Direct Message, return to that conversation and ask the sender to resend it. This is often more reliable than trying to reconstruct a Reel from a vague memory.
Request an export of your Instagram information
For broader account-data retrieval, Meta provides an official export flow at Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Export your information. Meta says you can choose the profile, information categories, date range, format, notification email, and export destination. Its Instagram information-export instructions explain the available controls.
An export is not a guaranteed replacement for the in-app Watch History list. It may not produce a complete, convenient, browsable record of every Reel watched, and Meta says preparing an export can take up to 30 days. Use it for a broader account-data request, not when you need to find a Reel immediately.

Privacy and visibility
Watch History is an account-level control intended for your own account; it is not described as a public feed that followers can browse. However, watching a Reel is different from interacting with it. Likes, comments, follows, and shares can have their own visibility or notification implications under Instagram’s policies and settings. Review Instagram’s official activity and privacy guidance if you are concerned about what another person may see.

- Open Profile → ☰ → Settings and activity/Settings → Your activity → Watch History.
- Check date and account filters, if they appear.
- Confirm that you are using the correct Instagram account.
- Update and restart Instagram if Watch History is absent.
- Check Liked activity and Saved collections.
- Search by creator, caption, audio, or hashtag.
- Look in Direct Messages if somebody sent you the Reel.
- Use Accounts Center’s information export only as a slower, broader fallback.
Why older instructions may be wrong
Older tutorials often say that Instagram has no watch-history feature. That advice may predate the Reels Watch History rollout reported on October 24, 2025. If the control is not visible in your app, however, do not conclude that the instructions are universally wrong or that your history has been deleted: Instagram may not have enabled the feature for your account, or the current interface may use different labels.

Why can’t I see Watch History on Instagram?
Update Instagram, confirm that the correct account is active, force-close and reopen the app, and check Your activity again. If it is still absent, the feature may not yet be enabled for your account or may have moved under a different label.
Are Reels Watch History and Reels Insights the same thing?
No. Reels Insights are creator-facing metrics such as watch time and replay time for a Reel. They are not a personal list of Reels watched by a viewer.
How can I find a Reel if it is not in Watch History?
You can check Liked activity, Saved collections, the creator’s account, caption terms, audio, hashtags, or the Direct Message where the Reel was shared. Meta’s Accounts Center also offers an information export, but it may take up to 30 days and is not guaranteed to provide a complete browsable watch-history list.
