1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsShort answer: DIRECTV Choice is the headline winner for channel breadth, advertising 125+ channels. YouTube TV follows with 100+ channels and is the strongest broad all-around alternative. But there is no universal “top 100” winner: channel counts are not standardized, local affiliates vary by ZIP code, and some channels require add-ons.
For a trustworthy result, compare the lowest package that includes the same fixed list of 100 channels in the same location. Until that test is completed, treat DIRECTV’s 125+ figure as a package-size advantage—not proof that it carries all 100 channels on your personal list.
What does “top 100 channels” actually mean?
There is no standardized industry ranking called the “top 100 channels.” Streaming providers count channels differently, put networks in different package tiers, and handle local affiliates by ZIP code. Some networks are also available only through add-ons. A provider can therefore advertise more than 100 channels without carrying 100 channels that a particular household considers essential.
For a national U.S. comparison, the most defensible answer is two-part:
#1 Best Overall
- HD streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
- DIRECTV Choice is the headline winner for advertised package breadth, at 125+ channels.
- YouTube TV is the strongest broad, straightforward alternative, advertising 100+ channels in its core plan.
That does not prove that DIRECTV Choice includes your preferred 100 channels, or that YouTube TV is best in every ZIP code. To make a genuine channel-by-channel comparison, you must use one fixed 100-channel checklist, one location, and the lowest package that includes each channel.
Live TV streaming services compared
The figures below are provider-advertised package totals used for this comparison. They are not an independently audited count, and they should be rechecked before subscribing because lineups, package names, prices, add-ons, promotions, and local availability can change.
| Provider | Advertised lineup | Package structure | Best fit | Main qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DIRECTV streaming | Entertainment: 90+ channels Choice: 125+ channels |
Tiered packages, with locals where available | Maximum advertised breadth | 125+ does not mean 125 of your chosen channels; price, ZIP code, and add-ons still matter |
| YouTube TV | 100+ live channels | Large core bundle with location-based channel lookup | Broad all-around coverage with relatively little package customization | Local and regional availability must be checked for the viewing location |
| Hulu + Live TV | 95+ live and local channels | Live television combined with Hulu’s on-demand ecosystem | Households wanting live channels and on-demand entertainment together | Regional restrictions and blackouts apply; 95+ is not a nationwide guarantee of every local or sports channel |
| Sling TV | No single universal total | Orange, Blue, or Orange & Blue, with optional extras | Viewers who want to customize the starting lineup | Orange and Blue divide important networks, and add-ons can change the real cost |
| Philo | Essential: 70+ live channels | Entertainment-focused package advertised at $25 per month | Low-cost reality, lifestyle, documentary, and general entertainment viewing | Not a full replacement for local broadcast channels or major live sports |
1. DIRECTV: the winner by advertised channel breadth
DIRECTV has the largest advertised mainstream package among the services reviewed. Its Entertainment package is listed at 90+ channels, while Choice is listed at 125+ channels. That makes DIRECTV Choice the natural winner if the question is simply, “Which provider advertises the biggest bundle?”
The lineup is broad across sports, news, entertainment, lifestyle, movie, and Spanish-language networks. Local channels are included where available, but “where available” is an important qualification: local broadcast affiliates are location-dependent, and the package’s total does not tell you whether it carries the particular station you need.

DIRECTV is therefore a good choice for a household that wants a traditional, large channel bundle and is willing to pay for a higher tier. It is a weaker conclusion if the decision is based only on a raw number. A viewer who mainly wants a few sports networks, a regional sports network, local news, or particular documentary channels may find that a smaller-looking package fits better.
Verdict: Choose DIRECTV Choice for the strongest advertised breadth, provided its current lineup and local availability match your ZIP code and the price fits your budget.
2. YouTube TV: the strongest broad all-around alternative
YouTube TV advertises 100+ live channels in its core plan. Its lineup covers a broad mix of local stations, news, sports, and entertainment, and its channel directory includes a location-based lookup. That makes it easier to evaluate than a service whose lineup is spread across several base packages and add-ons.
YouTube TV is the most natural recommendation for viewers who want a large general-purpose bundle without building a package from separate Orange, Blue, and specialty choices. It can be especially practical for households with mixed interests: one person wants news, another wants sports, and someone else wants entertainment or local programming.

- 4K streaming made simple:With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- 4K picture quality: With Roku Streaming Stick Plus, watch your favorites with brilliant 4K picture and vivid HDR color.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight.
However, “100+” still does not mean that every household receives the same 100 channels. Local affiliates and regional networks can vary by location. The correct procedure is to enter the viewing ZIP code in the provider’s channel lookup, then compare the result with your own channel checklist.
Verdict: YouTube TV is the best broad all-around candidate when you value a large, relatively simple core bundle. Call it the winner for your market only after checking the actual lineup for that market.
3. Hulu + Live TV: a broad live-and-on-demand bundle
Hulu + Live TV advertises 95+ live and local channels. Its official lineup spans major broadcast networks, the ESPN family, news, entertainment, lifestyle, children’s, Spanish-language, and specialty programming.
Its main advantage is not the raw total. It is the combination of live television and Hulu’s on-demand ecosystem in one household entertainment package. That can make Hulu + Live TV a better fit than a slightly larger live-TV bundle for viewers who regularly move between live channels and on-demand shows and films.
The “local” part of the 95+ description requires care. Hulu warns that regional restrictions, blackouts, and additional terms apply. A local station or live sports feed that appears in one market may not be available in another, and a channel can be carried while a particular event is unavailable because of rights restrictions.
Verdict: Pick Hulu + Live TV when the live lineup and Hulu’s on-demand catalog are both important. Do not select it solely because of the advertised channel count, and verify local affiliates and sports restrictions first.
4. Sling TV: the customizable option
Sling TV is difficult to rank in a simple channel-count contest because it does not use one universal bundle. Its main choices are Orange, Blue, and Orange & Blue.
- Orange emphasizes family and sports programming.
- Blue emphasizes news, reality, and drama.
- Orange & Blue combines the widest base selection.
The displayed Orange & Blue lineup includes networks such as ESPN, CNN, TNT, USA, TBS, HGTV, Bravo, FX, Food Network, NFL Network, AMC, and others. That combination can be attractive when it contains the exact networks a household watches, but the Orange/Blue split makes comparisons less intuitive. A channel that matters to you may require the combined plan rather than one of the individual packages.

- Stunning 4K and Dolby Vision streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Breathtaking picture quality: Stunningly sharp 4K picture brings out rich detail in your entertainment with four times the resolution of HD. Watch as colors pop off your screen and enjoy lifelike clarity with Dolby Vision and HDR10+.
- Seamless streaming for any room: With Roku Streaming Stick 4K, watch your favorite entertainment on any TV in the house, even in rooms farther from your router thanks to the long-range Wi-Fi receiver.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
Sling also offers optional add-ons. Counting those extras as though they were included in the base package would make Sling look better than the actual entry price for the selected lineup. A fair comparison should record the base package, each required add-on, and the resulting total separately.
Local-channel availability also depends on location. The absence or presence of a local affiliate can change the value of Sling for a cord-cutter who expects a complete broadcast replacement.
Verdict: Sling is the best choice for customization, not for winning a raw channel-total race. Score it by the cost of the channels you actually require.
5. Philo: an entertainment specialist
Philo’s Essential plan is advertised at 70+ live channels for $25 per month. Its lineup is concentrated in entertainment and lifestyle programming, including A&E, AMC, Animal Planet, BET, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, Food Network, HGTV, HISTORY, Lifetime, MTV, Paramount Network, TLC, Travel Channel, TV Land, VH1, and other similar networks.
That makes Philo particularly useful for viewers who watch reality, documentaries, lifestyle, food, home, general entertainment, and movie-oriented channels. It can also work as a lower-cost complement to another service when local news and major sports are handled elsewhere.
Philo should not be described as the broadest cable replacement. It is not positioned as a complete substitute for local broadcast television and major live sports. A household that needs local news, live network sports, ESPN-family coverage, or regional sports programming should examine another provider or consider Philo only as an additional entertainment service.
Verdict: Philo is the best entertainment-focused budget option in this comparison, not the best answer for a full sports-and-local channel replacement.
How to perform a real top-100 channel comparison
If “top 100” is meant literally, a headline package count is not enough. Use the following process so that the result can be reproduced and challenged.

Step 1: Publish the exact 100-channel checklist
Write down the exact network names before comparing providers. Do not use vague categories such as “news” or “sports,” and do not change the list after seeing which service performs best.
A balanced checklist can include local broadcast affiliates, national news, sports, entertainment, lifestyle and reality, children’s and family programming, Spanish-language networks, movie channels, and specialty or documentary-oriented networks. The weighting is an editorial choice: a sports-heavy list will favor a different service from an entertainment-heavy list. State the weighting instead of presenting it as an objective industry standard.
For a documentary-focused household, the checklist may reasonably give more attention to documentary, history, science, nature, travel, and factual entertainment networks. That would be more useful than allowing a provider’s larger total to be inflated by channels the household never watches.
Step 2: Choose one ZIP code
Use the same ZIP code for every provider. The comparison should identify the city or market, not merely say “nationally,” when local channels are included in the score.
YouTube TV provides a location-based channel lookup. Hulu discloses regional restrictions and blackouts. DIRECTV describes locals as included where available, and Sling states that local access depends on location. Those qualifications must appear next to any local-channel result.
Step 3: Find the lowest package that includes each channel
Count a channel as part of the base lineup only when it is included in the selected base package. If it requires a sports, entertainment, or other add-on, mark it as an add-on rather than silently adding it to the base total.
For Sling, record whether the network comes from Orange, Blue, or Orange & Blue. For the other services, record the specific package tier. The useful question is not only “Does the provider carry this channel?” but also “What is the least expensive package that carries it?”
Step 4: Separate four kinds of availability
| Status | How to count it |
|---|---|
| Included | Count it toward the base-package score. |
| Add-on required | Show it separately and include the extra cost in the practical-price comparison. |
| Location-dependent | Verify it in the selected ZIP code and label it as a local or regional result. |
| Blackout or rights restriction | Do not treat nominal carriage as a guarantee that every live event will be viewable. |
Step 5: Report two scores, not one
The final comparison should show both:
- Advertised package breadth: the provider’s own headline figure, such as 125+, 100+, 95+, or 70+.
- Checklist coverage: the number of channels from the fixed 100-channel list that are included in the chosen base package for the selected ZIP code.
This prevents a provider from winning simply because its package contains many channels outside the reader’s priorities. It also makes add-ons, local affiliates, and regional restrictions visible.

Why sports should be scored separately
Sports can make a channel-count ranking misleading. A service may offer a large entertainment lineup but miss the regional sports network, league network, local affiliate, or event rights that matter most to a household.
Make a separate sports checklist for the teams and competitions the reader follows. Verify the required network, the package tier, any add-on, the viewer’s location, and possible blackouts. Do not assume that a channel’s presence guarantees access to every game shown under that network’s branding.
The same principle applies to local news and broadcast programming. A service can advertise a large national lineup while still being the wrong choice if it lacks the reader’s local ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, CW, or other relevant affiliate.
Which provider is best for each type of viewer?
- Choose DIRECTV Choice if your first priority is the largest advertised mainstream bundle and the current price and local lineup work for you.
- Choose YouTube TV if you want a broad all-purpose service with a straightforward core package and strong local, news, sports, and entertainment coverage in your market.
- Choose Hulu + Live TV if live television and Hulu’s on-demand ecosystem are equally important.
- Choose Sling TV if you are prepared to compare Orange, Blue, Orange & Blue, and add-ons to build around specific channels.
- Choose Philo if entertainment, lifestyle, reality, documentary, and general-interest channels matter more than local broadcast television and major live sports.
What you need to watch live TV
Most recent smart TVs can run streaming apps, but an older television may need an external streaming player. The Roku Streaming Stick 4K is a relevant setup option: Roku identifies support for 4K, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, long-range Wi-Fi, and TV controls, and the device connects directly to a television for internet streaming.
The device does not include a paid live-TV subscription. You still need internet access, a compatible television setup, and a separate subscription to DIRECTV, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, Philo, or another service. 4K hardware also does not turn an HD channel into a 4K channel.
The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is a reasonable alternative for households already using Fire TV. Its documentation identifies 4K streaming, Dolby Vision, and Alexa voice-remote support. There is no basis in the reviewed evidence to rank it above the Roku; the better choice usually depends on the television, remote, and ecosystem already in use.
Final checks before subscribing
- Enter the viewing ZIP code into each provider’s official channel lookup.
- Write down the exact local affiliates and regional networks, rather than assuming they are included nationally.
- Compare the lowest package that includes every required channel.
- List add-ons separately and calculate their effect on the real monthly cost.
- Check sports networks, team coverage, event rights, and blackout notices independently from the general channel total.
- Confirm whether the service’s on-demand library, DVR features, simultaneous streams, and device support fit the household’s needs.
- Recheck the lineup, package labels, price, promotional terms, and availability immediately before publication or purchase.
Channel counts are volatile marketing figures, not permanent specifications. A comparison that was accurate when written can become stale after a carriage dispute, package redesign, local-affiliate change, or sports-rights update.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does DIRECTV Choice include the top 100 channels?
No. DIRECTV Choice has the largest advertised package in this comparison at 125+ channels, but that figure is not a standardized list of the 100 channels every viewer wants. Local affiliates, regional networks, package tiers and add-ons vary.

Is Hulu + Live TV better than a larger channel bundle?
Hulu + Live TV is a strong choice when you want live channels together with Hulu’s on-demand ecosystem. It is not automatically the best choice for every market because local availability, regional restrictions and blackouts apply.
Is Sling TV good for getting 100 channels?
Sling TV is better for customization. Orange emphasizes family and sports, Blue emphasizes news, reality and drama, and Orange & Blue provides the widest base selection. Add-ons and local availability must be included in the comparison.
Does a Roku Streaming Stick 4K include live TV?
No. A Roku Streaming Stick 4K is streaming hardware. It connects to a television and provides access to compatible apps, but it does not include a paid live-TV subscription or free access to any provider’s channels.

The Bottom Line
Bottom line: DIRECTV Choice offers the largest advertised bundle at 125+ channels, making it the headline winner for breadth. YouTube TV is the strongest broad all-around alternative at 100+ channels, Hulu + Live TV combines a wide live lineup with Hulu’s on-demand ecosystem, Sling TV wins on customization, and Philo is the budget entertainment specialist. No provider can honestly be called the universal winner of the “top 100” until the comparison publishes a fixed 100-channel checklist and verifies it for one ZIP code.
