The Saturday Night Live Five-Timers Club has 27 host-based members as of August 13, 2026. The newest is Jack Black, who reached five hosting appearances on April 4, 2026. Alec Baldwin leads the roster with 17 hosting appearances, followed by Steve Martin with 16 and John Goodman with 13.
The Five-Timers Club is an informal SNL tradition, not a legally constituted organization or a formal award. Its usual qualification is simple: a performer has hosted Saturday Night Live at least five times. The recurring on-screen club began with Tom Hanks’s fifth hosting appearance in December 1990—and the tuxedos, exclusive clubhouse and distinctive jackets have been recurring visual jokes ever since.

- Chevy Chase—eight hosting appearances. Chase was also an original cast member and SNL’s first Weekend Update anchor, but those are separate parts of his show history.
Seven hosting appearances
- Christopher Walken—seven hosting appearances. His recurring characters, including Bruce Dickinson in the famous “More Cowbell” sketch, make him one of the club’s most recognizable visual presences.
- Scarlett Johansson—seven hosting appearances. She holds the record for the most SNL hosting appearances by a woman.
Six hosting appearances
- Drew Barrymore—six hosting appearances. Barrymore first hosted at age seven in 1982 and later reached Five-Timers status in 2007.
- Elliott Gould—six hosting appearances, concentrated in SNL’s first five seasons. He was among the show’s earliest repeat hosts.
- Danny DeVito—six appearances counted in the host-based total. Historical tallies can differ because one episode was co-hosted with Rhea Perlman, and some lists handle that episode differently when identifying his ceremonial fifth hosting appearance.
- Tina Fey—six hosting appearances. Her SNL résumé also includes writing, head-writing, cast membership and Weekend Update. Her co-hosted 2015 appearance with Amy Poehler counted toward her milestone.
- Melissa McCarthy—six hosting appearances. The total does not include her numerous cameos, including her appearances as Sean Spicer.
- John Mulaney—six hosting appearances. He reached the club in February 2022 after a notably concentrated run of hosting appearances; he was also an SNL writer from 2008 to 2013.
- Will Ferrell—six hosting appearances. Ferrell quietly reached Five-Timers status in 2019 and hosted for the sixth time in the Season 51 finale on May 16, 2026.

Who are the newest Five-Timers Club members?
The most recent induction wave began with former cast member Kristen Wiig, who reached five hosting appearances on April 6, 2024. Martin Short followed on December 21, 2024. Jack Black became the latest inductee on April 4, 2026.
These moments typically turn the host’s fifth-show monologue or an early sketch into a club ceremony. Wiig’s induction had the added appeal of revisiting characters associated with her cast years. Black’s fifth hosting appearance continued the long-running practice of using the milestone itself as the setup for a Five-Timers joke.

Why the Five-Timers jacket matters
The jacket is the club’s most recognizable visual symbol. It appeared in the original 1990 sketch and became a recurring prop in later inductions. Documented jacket recipients include Scarlett Johansson, Melissa McCarthy, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Rudd, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone and Kristen Wiig.
That does not mean every person on the 27-member roster should be shown wearing one. The jacket is a recurring sketch prop rather than proof of membership, and not every member necessarily received one on camera. For a photo package, use one properly cleared image per member where possible, prioritizing licensed episode stills, official NBC/NBCUniversal images or appropriately licensed Getty/NBCUniversal photography.
Captions should identify the person, the hosting milestone and the relevant episode or year when verified. They should also distinguish an episode still from an anniversary-special group photo. Image reuse rights must be checked separately; a television appearance does not automatically grant permission to republish its still.

How the club’s counting rules get complicated
Hosting is different from appearing
A celebrity can appear on SNL many times without hosting. Musical-guest spots, cameos, anniversary-special appearances and ordinary cast membership do not automatically add to a hosting total. This is why Baldwin’s cameos, Goodman’s appearances and McCarthy’s Sean Spicer sketches should not be used to inflate their hosting numbers.

Some historical lists count a co-hosted episode toward each participant’s hosting total; others treat the milestone more narrowly. Tina Fey’s 2015 appearance with Amy Poehler is counted for Fey, while Martin Short’s total also involves co-hosted episodes. Danny DeVito’s episode with Rhea Perlman is a particularly visible source of disagreement in older tallies.
Paul Simon is the famous exception
Paul Simon hosted SNL four times, but he has appeared in Five-Timers Club material because he was a musical guest on a fifth show. He is best described as an honorary or special-case figure—not as an ordinary five-time host. The distinction explains why some celebratory Five-Timers references may show a person who does not appear in the host-based roster above.

Where to watch the induction sketches
Readers who want to see the club’s monologues and jacket scenes should start with official Saturday Night Live episode or clip listings from NBC and Peacock. NBCUniversal has identified Peacock as part of the SNL50 distribution ecosystem, and current SNL distribution can involve both NBC and Peacock. Check the catalog in your country before promising access to a particular episode: licensing, subscription requirements, episode selection and pricing are subject to change.

Do cameos and musical appearances count toward the Five-Timers Club?
