The band Sharon Osbourne removed from the bill has never been authoritatively named. Before Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning concert, Sharon said she had a serious dispute with a band’s manager and dropped the act because, in her account, it wanted to make money from an event intended to raise money for charity. She said she would identify the band after the concert—but no confirmed name had emerged in the available authoritative reporting as of August 12, 2026.
That means the responsible answer to “Which band was disinvited?” is: an unnamed band. Fan theories have attached several names to the story, but none has been established by Sharon Osbourne, the concert organizers, or the band supposedly involved.
What Sharon Osbourne actually said
In a pre-concert interview, Sharon Osbourne described a dispute with a band’s manager. She said the act had been removed from the lineup because it wanted to profit from the Black Sabbath farewell event, which was presented as a charity concert. Sharon also indicated that she planned to reveal the band’s identity later and suggested that the answer would surprise people. Us Weekly’s report documents those comments.

Her account is an allegation about the dispute, not an independently adjudicated finding that the unnamed band behaved improperly. The available evidence does not establish what payment was requested, what the manager and Sharon discussed, or whether the two sides understood the event’s financial arrangements in the same way.
Why Soundgarden is often mistaken for the answer
Soundgarden should not be identified as the disinvited band. The group was widely discussed in connection with the expected or announced lineup but did not appear at the concert. It later said that it had been invited and that its members could not coordinate their individual schedules and collective projects. The band thanked Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, Sharon Osbourne, and musical director Tom Morello for the invitation. Soundgarden’s explanation was reported here.
That statement does not prove that every detail of the event’s lineup history was publicly explained, but it directly conflicts with the claim that Soundgarden was the act Sharon removed over a profit dispute. Treating Soundgarden as the answer turns an absence from the show into an accusation that the available evidence does not support.
The concert behind the mystery
Back to the Beginning took place at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, on July 5, 2025. It was billed as Ozzy Osbourne’s final live appearance and the last performance of the original Black Sabbath lineup: Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward. The bill also included Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Tool, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Lamb of God, Rival Sons, and other major heavy-metal acts. The Independent covered the event and the lineup controversy.
This was not presented as an ordinary commercial tour date. It was a benefit show connected with Acorns Children’s Hospice, Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Cure Parkinson’s. Tom Morello later said that the concert raised approximately £140 million for charity, a figure reported by MusicRadar.

The charity purpose is central to Sharon’s explanation, which is why the wording matters. It is accurate to say that Sharon said she removed the band after a dispute over the act’s desire to profit from the benefit concert. It is not accurate to state as an established fact that the unnamed group exploited the event or acted improperly.

What can safely be said—and what cannot
Supported by the available reporting
- Sharon Osbourne said she had a dispute with a band’s manager.
- She said the band was removed from the bill.
- She connected the dispute to the band’s alleged wish to profit from a charity event.
- She promised or suggested a later identification.
- The band’s name remained unconfirmed in authoritative public reporting as of August 12, 2026.
- Soundgarden said it had been invited but could not participate because of scheduling difficulties.
Not established by the evidence
- That the band was Soundgarden.
- That the band was Mötley Crüe or any other named act circulating in fan discussions.
- The exact financial request or terms that allegedly caused the dispute.
- That the unnamed band committed misconduct, rather than becoming involved in a disagreement over event economics.
Until Sharon Osbourne, the organizers, or the band itself provides a verifiable identification and fuller account, naming an act would repeat speculation as fact.
Why the identity may remain unresolved
Large benefit concerts often involve several layers of negotiation: artist fees, expenses, management arrangements, travel, production, billing, charitable deductions, and promotional commitments. A disagreement about any of those matters can be described publicly in broad terms without revealing the underlying contract or correspondence. In this case, the public record contains Sharon’s characterization of the dispute but not the manager’s account, the alleged band’s response, or the relevant financial documents.

There is also an important difference between being associated with a planned lineup and being removed from it. Soundgarden’s statement supports the former—an invitation—but does not identify the act in Sharon’s dispute. An act can disappear from an expected bill for scheduling, production, contractual, health, travel, or other reasons. Its absence alone is not evidence of disinvitation.
Where to start with Black Sabbath’s music
For listeners revisiting the records that established Black Sabbath’s legacy after the farewell-show story, Black Sabbath Paranoid vinyl remains a natural starting point. The official Black Sabbath discography and artist site lists Paranoid; available vinyl editions can vary by country, pressing, and retailer. This is a catalog recommendation—not a recording of Back to the Beginning, and it does not provide any answer to the identity mystery.
