Thousands flee extremist militias in northern Mozambique’s ruby mining region but the residents stay determined to get their share of the lucrative ruby market. The executives of the world’s largest ruby mine are calling for peace and order in the region. They claim to pay their taxes, however, there have been reported violent confrontations with the mine’s security personnel as some residents attempt to mine rubies themselves.
Follow Adrian Kriesch as he investigates if the ruby market is truly a blessing or a curse for the people of northern Mozambique. The documentary explores the complicated relationship between business and politics, and how the mine’s executives propose using the profit to fight poverty and improve the lives of people in the region.
