The 2025 YouTube Recap highlighted a viewer’s interests, creators and viewing patterns, but it was temporary: YouTube says Recaps are automatically deleted after the end of the year. As of August 18, 2026, the 2025 edition is no longer available, and the official sources cited here do not confirm a 2026 edition.
What YouTube Recap was
YouTube described Recap as a personalized year-end look at a viewer’s activity on the platform. Unlike a list of YouTube’s most popular videos, it drew on an individual account’s eligible watch history to surface interests, creators, viewing themes and notable moments. YouTube introduced it on December 2, 2025, initially in North America, and said it would expand globally during the first week of December. YouTube’s launch announcement called it the first broad, personalized recap of a user’s general YouTube viewing.

The experience could include long-form videos and Shorts, along with a personality-style card such as “The Curious Mind,” “The Skill Builder” or “The Trailblazer.” YouTube said the cards and statistics varied by user; not everyone received the same insights. These categories were playful labels, not psychological assessments.
The summary could reflect activity across mobile, computer and TV when the viewer was signed in, and YouTube’s Help page also lists downloaded videos. Its contents depended on enough eligible history being retained; it should not be understood as a complete record of every video someone had ever watched.

How people originally found and shared it
When the 2025 Recap was available, viewers needed to be signed in to the account containing the relevant watch history. The original access routes were:
- In the mobile app: Open YouTube, tap You, then select the Recap banner.
- On desktop: Sign in and visit youtube.com/recap.
- To share or save: Use the Share or Download control on an individual card, where available.
YouTube’s launch-era Help documentation specified YouTube app version 18.43 or newer on Android and iPhone. That was a requirement listed for the 2025 launch, not confirmation of a current requirement for a future Recap. YouTube said the 2025 experience was accessible through the You tab until the end of that year. Its instructions for finding, sharing and saving Recap describe those original steps.

Who could receive a Recap
Eligibility was not universal. YouTube required a signed-in account with enough eligible watch history from January through late October 2025. Its documentation did not set a universal public number of viewing hours for the general video Recap.
- Watch history needed to be available for the relevant period. Paused history or auto-delete could leave YouTube without enough eligible activity.
- Users had to meet the applicable minimum age requirement. Supervised accounts were excluded.
- People acting as delegates on Brand Accounts were listed as ineligible.
- Regional availability applied. YouTube documented availability in more than 185 countries and 17 languages for the 2025 experience.
- Some individual cards had additional eligibility conditions, so one person could see a card that another did not.
The listed languages were English, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Russian, Arabic, French, Japanese, Vietnamese, Turkish, German, Korean, Thai, Simplified Chinese, Italian, Polish and Hindi. These are 2025 availability details; regional and language support can change.

Why a Recap might not have appeared
If someone could not find the 2025 Recap while it was live, common explanations included insufficient eligible history, a paused watch history, auto-delete removing older activity, being signed out or checking a different account. Age restrictions, a supervised account, Brand Account delegate status or location could also make the feature unavailable. A missing card did not necessarily mean the whole Recap was unavailable: individual insights had their own criteria.
For a history-related issue, users could review YouTube History in Google Account activity management. The controls let account holders view or delete history, pause it, and configure auto-delete. YouTube’s watch-history help page explains those settings. Turning history back on does not establish that an expired or previously unavailable 2025 Recap can be recreated.

YouTube Recap, YouTube Music Recap and YouTube Rewind
These names refer to different things:
- YouTube Recap summarized broader YouTube viewing, including video and Shorts activity.
- YouTube Music Recap remained a separate listening summary in the YouTube Music app. People who listened to at least 10 hours of music on YouTube could get a link from the main Recap to a deeper music summary; that figure applied to the music handoff, not a general-video viewing threshold.
- YouTube Rewind was the former platform-produced annual compilation of popular videos and creators. It was not a personalized account of an individual viewer’s history.
Calling the 2025 launch YouTube’s “first-ever recap” needs that distinction: YouTube presented it as the first broad personalized recap of general viewing, not the first recap-related experience of any kind associated with the platform.
Why the 2025 Recap is gone
YouTube’s Help page says Recaps are automatically deleted for everyone after the end of the year. The 2025 edition therefore should not be expected to work in 2026, even if someone visits the original page or uses the same app path. YouTube also said viewers could not refresh or edit a Recap. A user could delete it manually, but could not view that Recap again afterward.
The feature relied on retained watch-history data rather than a new category of viewing data collected solely for Recap. That dependence has a practical trade-off: pausing or deleting history, or using auto-delete, can reduce the activity available for a personalized summary. YouTube’s explanation of Recap eligibility and availability covers the history, account and expiration rules.
