YouTube TV did not permanently lose Disney channels. Disney-owned programming went dark on October 30, 2025, after a carriage agreement expired. The blackout ended on November 14, 2025, when Disney and YouTube TV announced a new multi-year deal restoring Disney’s full linear portfolio, including ABC, ESPN, Disney Channel, FX and National Geographic.
Short answer: YouTube TV did not permanently lose Disney’s channels. Disney-owned programming disappeared from the service on October 30, 2025, after a carriage agreement expired, but Disney and YouTube TV reached a new multi-year deal on November 14, 2025. Disney said the agreement restored its full linear portfolio, including ABC, all ESPN networks, Disney Channel, Freeform, FX, and National Geographic.
The headline that YouTube TV “lost access to the entire catalog of Disney channels” is therefore misleading if it is read as a permanent change. The dispute caused a 15-day blackout of Disney’s linear networks and affected some previously saved recordings, but the channels were restored.
What happened to Disney channels on YouTube TV?
The disagreement was a standard carriage dispute: a negotiation between a programming company and a television distributor over the terms for carrying networks and local stations.

YouTube TV’s existing agreement with Disney expired on October 30, 2025. When the companies had not reached a renewal, Disney programming was removed from YouTube TV. The blackout affected both national cable networks and ABC local broadcast stations, although the specific ABC affiliate available to a subscriber depends on that person’s market.
The affected lineup included:
- ABC and participating local ABC stations
- ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network and other ESPN networks
- Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD
- Freeform
- FX, FXX and FXM
- National Geographic and Nat Geo Wild
- Other Disney-owned linear networks included in the companies’ distribution agreement
Contemporary reports described more than 20 affected channels. Disney’s own description was broader: the agreement restored its “full linear portfolio.” That wording refers to Disney’s live television networks and stations, not every film or television program available through Disney’s separate streaming libraries.

Why did Disney and YouTube TV fight?
The companies gave different explanations, and neither side’s public allegations should be treated as an independently established finding.
YouTube TV’s position: YouTube said Disney was seeking economic terms that could raise the price of YouTube TV for customers. YouTube also argued that Disney’s demands could favor Disney’s own live-TV offerings, including Hulu + Live TV and Fubo.
Disney’s position: Disney said YouTube TV was refusing to pay fair rates for valuable programming, particularly high-demand sports and entertainment networks.
Those arguments reflect a larger problem in pay television. Programmers want higher carriage fees, prominent placement and strong distribution for valuable networks. Live-TV providers want to contain wholesale costs, keep subscription prices competitive and reduce the risk that customers will cancel when a channel disappears.

ABC and ESPN made this particular dispute especially significant. ABC is an important broadcast network for news, entertainment and sports, while ESPN carries programming that many subscribers consider difficult to replace. A blackout involving those networks creates much more customer pressure than the temporary loss of a niche channel.
What was restored by the settlement?
Disney said the new agreement restored its complete linear network portfolio on YouTube TV. Its description included:

YouTube TV separately said ABC, ESPN and FX would return, along with recordings that had previously been stored in subscribers’ Libraries. Local ABC stations were to return as quickly as the companies could complete the operational work in each market.
This means the dispute affected more than live viewing. During the blackout, subscribers could not simply switch to a saved Disney or ABC program in their YouTube TV Library if that recording was tied to the unavailable programming. The restoration notice specifically addressed the return of previously saved recordings.
Does YouTube TV now include Disney+ and Hulu?
No. Restoring Disney’s linear channels did not add the entire Disney+ or Hulu catalog to YouTube TV.
YouTube TV is a live multichannel television service. Disney+ and Hulu are separate streaming services with their own libraries, applications and subscription arrangements. A YouTube TV subscriber may be able to obtain Disney-owned programming through a Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN bundle, but that bundle is not the same product as the YouTube TV channel lineup.

The distinction matters in both directions:
- A streaming library may contain movies and series that are not available as live channels on YouTube TV.
- A live YouTube TV channel may provide scheduled programming, local ABC access or sports coverage in a way that a streaming library does not.
- Subscription prices, included services and promotional terms can change, so readers should check the current official offer before signing up.
The settlement also included an ESPN direct-to-consumer arrangement. Disney said ESPN’s new Unlimited Plan would be made available to YouTube TV subscribers at no additional cost, subject to the agreement’s implementation and plan conditions. However, the available evidence does not establish that the full ESPN Unlimited integration was already live through YouTube TV as of August 12, 2026. YouTube TV plan materials described the feature as coming in fall 2026, and a July 2026 official community response likewise described it as not yet available through YouTube TV.
Is Disney still on YouTube TV in 2026?
Yes, the available 2026 evidence supports treating the blackout as resolved rather than as a permanent removal.
YouTube TV’s 2026 plan materials identify Disney Channel and National Geographic programming in its News + Entertainment + Family package. Its sports plan materials identify ESPN networks. Together with Disney’s announcement of the new multi-year agreement, that indicates the Disney channels remained part of YouTube TV’s available packages after the dispute.
Package placement and availability can vary by plan, market and later changes to YouTube TV’s lineup. ABC is particularly market-dependent because subscribers receive a local affiliate rather than one identical national ABC feed in every location.
What could viewers use during the blackout?
For local ABC: an over-the-air antenna
If the only missing service is local ABC, an indoor HDTV antenna may provide a partial workaround. The Federal Trade Commission notes that modern televisions with digital tuners can receive local over-the-air broadcast channels with an inexpensive antenna.
Results depend on location, distance from broadcast towers, terrain, building materials and antenna placement. Check local reception before relying on it for an important event.
For Disney-owned streaming content: separate services
Viewers primarily interested in Disney movies and series, Hulu programming or ESPN’s direct-to-consumer offerings can compare the current Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN bundle with their existing television service. This may be a practical way to access specific content, but it will not reproduce every part of a live YouTube TV subscription.

What should affected YouTube TV subscribers do?
- Check the live guide. After restoration, confirm that the ABC affiliate for your market and the ESPN or Disney channels included with your plan are visible.
- Check your Library. Previously stored recordings may return as part of the restoration process, but they may not all appear at exactly the same time.
- Confirm your plan. A channel’s return to YouTube TV does not necessarily mean it is included in every package.
- Check local ABC separately. National network restoration and local-station availability are related but not identical. Your market determines which ABC affiliate YouTube TV carries.
- Do not buy hardware expecting it to restore cable channels. An antenna is useful only for receivable over-the-air broadcasts. A streaming device can run apps, but it cannot make an unavailable channel appear in a subscription.
- Compare replacements by program, not brand name. If you are considering Disney+, Hulu or ESPN separately, verify that the specific shows, sports rights and live feeds you need are included.
What this dispute says about streaming television
The episode shows that internet-delivered television is still subject to the same carriage negotiations that affected cable and satellite television. The delivery technology changed, but the underlying commercial relationship did not.
A service such as YouTube TV does not own every network in its guide. It negotiates permission to distribute programming, usually for a defined period. When an agreement expires, even a large and popular service can temporarily lose access to major sports, broadcast and entertainment channels.
For subscribers, the practical lesson is to distinguish between three different things:
- Live network carriage: the channels distributed through YouTube TV.
- Saved recordings: programs stored in a YouTube TV Library, which can also be affected when the underlying rights change.
- On-demand streaming catalogs: separate libraries offered through services such as Disney+ and Hulu.
In this case, all three categories were easy to confuse. The blackout temporarily removed Disney-owned linear networks and affected stored recordings, while Disney’s separate streaming catalogs remained separate products. The November 14 agreement restored the YouTube TV distribution relationship; it did not merge the companies’ streaming libraries.
