YouTube TV’s Custom Multiview lets subscribers choose eligible live programs for a shared screen, instead of relying only on combinations selected by YouTube. You can watch up to four streams at once, but the feature does not cover every channel, recording, device or viewing method.
What changed with YouTube TV Multiview?
YouTube announced the rollout of Full Multiview Customization on April 28, 2026. Its builder lets viewers choose from eligible live programming in categories including Recommended, Sports, News, Shows, Movies and Other live content. The update extends Multiview beyond the preset combinations that were especially associated with sports and major live events. YouTube’s announcement describes selecting live content surfaced in the builder—not choosing any channel without restriction.
Custom selection can be useful when several games overlap, or when you want a game alongside news or another eligible live channel. YouTube TV supports up to four streams in one Multiview session, though a particular session may contain fewer if fewer eligible programs are available.
How to build a custom Multiview
YouTube’s Help Center gives these steps for supported devices. Labels and availability may vary by device and rollout status.

On a smart TV or streaming device
- Start watching eligible Multiview content.
- Press Down on the remote.
- Select the Multiview icon.
- At the bottom of the screen, select content to add from the programs shown in the builder.
- Continue selecting eligible streams, up to four total.
On an Android mobile device
- Start watching eligible Multiview content.
- Tap the video, then select the Multiview icon.
- Choose a content category and select a program to add.

What can—and can’t—go into a session?
The builder is for eligible live content. A channel appearing in the regular YouTube TV guide does not guarantee that every program on it can be added.

- Eligible live programming: Depending on what the builder offers, you may combine sports events, news, shows, movies and other live content. Select family-friendly programming is excluded.
- On-demand and recordings: Video-on-demand titles and DVR recordings cannot be added.
- Plans and add-ons: Content from different packages or add-ons can be combined when the account has the required subscription and the programs are eligible.
- NFL Sunday Ticket: YouTube TV’s rules limit Multiview sessions containing Sunday Ticket content to combinations with other NFL games, rather than arbitrary channels. NFL RedZone appears only with the relevant Sunday Ticket and RedZone access.

Audio, captions and full-screen viewing
Only one pane supplies audio at a time. Select the view you want to hear; the active-audio icon indicates which one is selected. Captions can also be switched between views. To focus on one program, expand its pane to full screen. On a TV, select the active view and press the remote’s Select button; press Back to return to Multiview. On Android, select the view and use the full-screen control.

Four panes are most useful for keeping an eye on concurrent events. Small windows can make scores, text crawls and dialogue harder to follow, so switching audio or expanding a view is more practical when one program needs closer attention.
Supported devices and browser limits
YouTube TV supports many smart TVs, streaming devices, game consoles, phones and tablets, including Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, Google TV, Chromecast with Google TV and Android TV. However, broad YouTube TV compatibility does not guarantee full Custom Multiview support on every device.

YouTube said the customization rollout covered the vast majority of living-room and mobile devices. It described a small subset—less than 5%—as potentially unable to use the full customization experience; those devices may have a more limited builder focused on major events such as the NFL or World Cup. Its Help Center also warns that older devices, mostly from before 2018, may have fewer customization options or reduced picture quality. Check YouTube’s supported-device information for compatibility guidance.

A laptop browser should therefore not be expected to offer the TV app’s Multiview experience.

What to check if the builder is missing
If you do not see the custom builder, the cause may be rollout status, device compatibility, the selected program, browser or AirPlay use, or missing access to a channel or add-on. Try these checks:
- Update the YouTube TV app and your device software.
- Try the app on a supported TV or streaming device instead of a browser or AirPlay.
- Start from eligible live programming and look for the Multiview control by pressing Down on a TV remote.
- Try a different live program or major event.
- Confirm that your plan or add-on includes the desired content, then consult YouTube’s Multiview help page and device guidance.
If the control remains absent, the issue may be the device or account rollout rather than a fault with the account. YouTube’s April announcement said the rollout would continue over several weeks; access may still vary with device, app, account, content rights and subscription.
Is Multiview included, and does it change stream limits?
Multiview is a YouTube TV feature, but the channels you can watch depend on your plan and any add-ons. You do not get access to a channel simply by adding a pane; the account must have the necessary entitlement. Plan details are listed in YouTube TV’s plan information. Because prices and promotions can change, check the current sign-up flow rather than relying on a launch price.

There are two separate limits to keep straight. Multiview can show up to four panes inside one viewing experience. Separately, YouTube TV’s standard plan rules allow viewing on up to three devices at once; 4K Plus changes the in-home simultaneous-stream allowance for eligible plan content. Four panes do not mean four separate household devices or remove account-level stream limits. See YouTube’s simultaneous-stream guidance and 4K Plus information. 4K Plus is not presented as a requirement for using a four-pane Multiview session.

Alternatives when one screen is not enough
- Use separate devices: Different household members can watch different programs on separate screens within the account’s simultaneous-stream rules. You get larger images, but not one combined Multiview view.
- Use YouTube TV recommendations: Recommended or preset combinations can be convenient when the events you want are already grouped. YouTube says personalized selections may appear in areas such as Top Picks for You and Watch in multiview; see its Android Multiview guidance.
- Use NFL Sunday Ticket’s separate YouTube experience: It has its own Multiview workflow for eligible out-of-market games, including adding games up to four total. Its rules should not be confused with YouTube TV’s broader custom builder; see YouTube’s NFL guide.
- Use another streaming service: This may expose content absent from YouTube TV’s builder, but can add cost and may not provide a single four-pane interface.
