The rumored YouTube TV overhaul happened. On February 9, 2026, YouTube announced more than 10 lower-priced, genre-based plans for sports, news, entertainment, and family programming. The original $82.99-per-month main plan remains available, so this is a broader menu of bundles—not a replacement for YouTube TV’s all-in-one service.
The key qualification: these are predefined packages, not full channel-by-channel à-la-carte television. Whether you save money depends on the channels your household actually watches and the add-ons needed to replace what the cheaper plan leaves out.
What changed?
In November 2025, reporting suggested that YouTube TV might introduce cheaper, audience-specific packages. That uncertainty ended in February 2026, when YouTube officially announced the rollout of more than 10 plans organized around sports, news, entertainment, family programming, and combinations of those categories.
YouTube’s announcement kept the comprehensive main plan at $82.99 per month with more than 100 networks. The new structure gives subscribers more ways to choose a narrower bundle, but it does not let them freely select every channel individually.

What is included?
Main YouTube TV plan
The main plan is still the broadest option. YouTube describes it as offering more than 100 channels, including broad sports, news, entertainment, and local-network coverage. It includes unlimited cloud DVR, Multiview, up to six household accounts, and three simultaneous streams.
Sports Plan
The Sports Plan has more than 30 channels, with local channels, live games, sports analysis, and sports news. YouTube’s announced lineup includes major broadcasters, FS1, NBC Sports Network, ESPN networks, and ESPN Unlimited, which the company said was coming in fall 2026.
That does not mean the plan includes every game, league, regional sports network, or out-of-market event. Network access and event rights are separate questions. NFL Sunday Ticket remains a separate add-on for out-of-market Sunday NFL games.

- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
Sports + News
The $71.99 Sports + News plan adds national news networks including CNBC, Fox News, MSNBC, CNN, C-SPAN, Bloomberg, and Fox Business to the sports-focused package concept.
Entertainment
The $54.99 Entertainment Plan focuses on networks such as FX, Hallmark, Comedy Central, Bravo, Paramount, Food Network, and HGTV.
News + Entertainment + Family
The $69.99 combined plan includes family-oriented programming such as Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, National Geographic, Cartoon Network, and PBS Kids, alongside news and entertainment programming.
Channel availability, especially local channels and regional sports coverage, can vary by ZIP code. YouTube TV says the service is available nationwide in more than 99.5% of U.S. households, but that does not make every local lineup identical.
Do cheaper plans keep YouTube TV’s main features?
YouTube says the lower-priced plans retain core features including:
- Unlimited cloud DVR
- Up to six household members
- Multiview
- Key Plays
- Access to eligible add-ons
The main and Sports plans list three simultaneous streams. The optional 4K Plus add-on can provide unlimited in-home streams, offline recordings for eligible content, and selected 4K programming for an additional charge.

- Stunning 4K and Dolby Vision streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Breathtaking picture quality: Stunningly sharp 4K picture brings out rich detail in your entertainment with four times the resolution of HD. Watch as colors pop off your screen and enjoy lifelike clarity with Dolby Vision and HDR10+.
- Seamless streaming for any room: With Roku Streaming Stick 4K, watch your favorite entertainment on any TV in the house, even in rooms farther from your router thanks to the long-range Wi-Fi receiver.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
This is not full à-la-carte TV
The new lineup is best understood as a menu of bundles. You choose a predefined genre package rather than building a low-cost subscription by selecting every individual channel.
YouTube TV separately offers some standalone network purchases, including services such as HBO Max and Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. That option applies only to a select list of networks and should not be confused with unrestricted channel-by-channel access to the entire YouTube TV lineup.
Will switching actually save money?
Start with the gross difference between your current plan and the new package, then subtract the cost of anything you must add back. A simple calculation is:
Net monthly saving = current bill − new plan − required add-ons − replacement services.
For example, moving from the $82.99 main plan to the $64.99 Sports Plan creates a gross saving of $18 per month. Moving to the $54.99 Entertainment Plan creates a gross saving of $28 per month. Those savings can shrink or disappear if you also need NFL Sunday Ticket, Sports Plus, HBO Max, 4K Plus, premium networks, or a separate service for channels excluded from the new package.
Before switching, check:
- Which channels and local stations your household actually watches.
- Whether your required sports are included in the plan or require a separate package.
- Whether a second streaming subscription would replace missing entertainment or family channels.
- Whether you are currently receiving a promotion that would be lost.
- Whether your billing provider makes the desired plan available.
Who should consider each option?
Sports-focused households
The Sports Plan may fit viewers who mainly want live sports, local channels, and sports news and can live without much general entertainment programming. Confirm the required networks and local lineup first, and treat “sports coverage” as network-specific rather than a guarantee of every league or event.

Entertainment viewers
The Entertainment Plan may suit households centered on FX, Hallmark, Comedy Central, Bravo, Paramount, Food Network, and HGTV. It is less attractive if the household also needs a broad sports or national-news lineup.

Families
The News + Entertainment + Family package may be more practical for households that need Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, PBS Kids, or similar programming, even though it costs more than the Entertainment Plan.
Mixed households
The $82.99 main plan may remain the better value when several people need different categories, when multiple add-ons would recreate the broader package, or when switching would sacrifice a valuable promotion.
What happens when existing subscribers switch?
YouTube’s support documentation says subscribers can change plans. Moving to a cheaper plan can result in a credit for the price difference on the next payment, subject to unused-time and billing rules. The switch can also change the billing date.
There are several important consequences:
- Switching can cause you to lose a promotional price.
- Add-ons generally carry over when changing plans, but canceling the main plan cancels its add-ons.
- DVR recordings tied to channels removed from the new plan may disappear from your library.
- YouTube says some removed DVR content may be recovered by upgrading again within 21 days if the relevant genre is restored. That is not a guarantee that every recording will be permanently recoverable.
- Customers billed through a mobile carrier, internet provider, or Google Play may see fewer plan choices than customers billed directly.
Review your recordings, add-ons, billing method, and current promotion before confirming a downgrade. See YouTube TV’s plan-switching support page for the current rules.

The sports-rights caveat
The original 2025 reporting discussed possible access to major NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL programming. The final launch materials describe networks and package composition; they do not guarantee every game from every league.

Local-market restrictions, regional sports rights, national broadcasts, out-of-market packages, and individual event rights all affect what a subscriber can watch. NFL Sunday Ticket, for example, remains a separate purchase. ESPN Unlimited was announced as a future fall 2026 feature, so it should not be treated as confirmed availability on every plan or on every date.
Why did YouTube TV introduce the packages?
YouTube says viewers wanted more control over what they watch and pay for. Genre bundles let the company offer lower entry prices to sports fans, families, and entertainment viewers while retaining a comprehensive package for households that want broad coverage.
The move also reflects a wider live-TV challenge: sports rights and programming costs have pushed streaming television prices closer to traditional pay-TV pricing. The result is more choice, but still within a bundle-based model.

YouTube TV’s cheaper-package overhaul is no longer a rumor. The company launched genre-based plans in February 2026, while keeping the $82.99 main plan. The Entertainment Plan has the lowest announced regular price at $54.99, and the Sports Plan costs $64.99 before add-ons.
The best choice depends on your real channel list—not the promotional headline. Compare the post-promotion price, local lineup, sports rights, add-ons, DVR recordings, and billing restrictions before switching.
