For most households replacing cable, YouTube TV is the better dedicated live-TV service. It costs less at the regular monthly rate, offers six household accounts, three simultaneous streams, unlimited DVR, and sports-focused features such as Multiview. Hulu + Live TV is the better bundle if you will genuinely use its Hulu library, Disney+, and ESPN access.
Prices and features below reflect information available around August 16, 2026, in the United States. Channel availability, regional sports networks, promotions, blackouts, and plan terms can vary by ZIP code and change over time.
Quick verdict
| Choose… | If your priority is… |
|---|---|
| YouTube TV | A focused cable replacement, sports viewing, Multiview, household profiles, and a lower regular monthly price. |
| Hulu + Live TV | Combining live television with Hulu’s on-demand library, Disney+, and ESPN access. |
The headline channel counts are similar—both advertise more than 100 channels—but that does not make their lineups interchangeable. Your ZIP code, required sports networks, local affiliates, existing subscriptions, and tolerance for advertising should determine the final choice.

Price: compare the bill you will actually pay
At regular rates, YouTube TV is $7 per month cheaper than Hulu + Live TV With Ads, or $84 less over a year before taxes, add-ons, or promotions. Hulu Premium + Live TV is $17 per month more than YouTube TV, or $204 more annually.
That simple calculation does not settle the value question. Hulu includes services that a YouTube TV subscriber might otherwise buy separately:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Hulu’s on-demand catalog and Hulu Originals.
- Disney+ access.
- ESPN-related access included in the current package structure.
Those inclusions matter only if your household would pay for and use them. If you already receive Hulu or Disney+ through another bundle, mobile plan, employer benefit, or separate subscription, Hulu + Live TV may duplicate services you are already paying for.
Use three cost comparisons
- Live-TV-only cost: compare $82.99 with $89.99 or $99.99.
- Like-for-like entertainment cost: add the Hulu, Disney+, or other services you would need to match the package you actually want.
- Sports cost: add the services or sports packages required for your teams and leagues.
Do not assign a universal cash value to bundled streaming services. A Disney+ subscription is valuable to a household that watches it, not automatically to every Hulu subscriber.

- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.

Promotions can obscure the comparison
Introductory offers are typically aimed at eligible new customers and have an expiration date or other conditions. Record the regular price before subscribing, check whether add-ons continue billing separately, and confirm whether cancellation is allowed at any time. The price that matters for a long-term comparison is the post-promotion recurring rate.
Channels: the ZIP code matters more than “100+”
Both providers advertise more than 100 live channels, but neither number guarantees the same lineup for every household. Local affiliates, regional sports networks, and some network combinations vary by market.
Before subscribing, enter your home ZIP code on the provider’s channel page and check the networks you actually watch. YouTube TV provides location and availability information through its official support pages. Hulu’s Live TV page likewise directs users to check local availability.
Build a required-channel checklist
- Broadcast: ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, PBS, and Telemundo.
- Sports: ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, SEC Network, ACC Network, Big Ten Network, FS1, FS2, NFL Network, MLB Network, NBA TV, and any regional sports network.
- News: CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, CNBC, Bloomberg, and local news.
- Entertainment: Bravo, E!, FX, FXX, Freeform, USA, TBS, TNT, HGTV, Food Network, Discovery, TLC, History, A&E, Lifetime, Hallmark, and TCM.
- Children’s and Spanish-language programming: Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Cartoon Network, and the specific Spanish-language networks your household needs.
- Premium networks: Max, Cinemax, Paramount+ with Showtime, and Starz, whether included or purchased as add-ons.
A network can appear on a national provider list yet be unavailable in your market. A local affiliate can also be more important to your household than several less-used cable channels.
Sports: YouTube TV has the sharper advantage, but not for every fan
YouTube TV is the stronger choice for many sports-first households because of its viewing tools and its relationship with NFL Sunday Ticket. Hulu + Live TV can be the better value when its included ESPN-related access and other networks cover what you watch.

NFL
YouTube TV offers the clearest path to NFL Sunday Ticket, which covers eligible out-of-market Sunday afternoon games. An active YouTube TV plan may be required for bundled purchases. The official page listed seasonal price signals of $240 for new users and $378 for returning users when bundled with YouTube TV, but eligibility, offers, and terms can change.
Sunday Ticket is not every NFL game. Local games, nationally televised games, and other exclusive broadcasts follow separate rights arrangements, and blackout rules apply.
College sports
Compare the exact networks required by your teams. A household following SEC, ACC, or Big Ten games should verify SEC Network, ACC Network, Big Ten Network, ESPN, and the relevant local or regional channels before subscribing.
NBA, NHL, MLB, and soccer
Regional sports networks and league-specific rights are decisive. Local games may be blacked out even when a provider carries the relevant national sports network. For soccer, compare the particular competition and broadcaster rather than relying on a general “sports included” claim.
Multiview and Key Plays
YouTube TV’s Multiview can show supported games simultaneously, while Key Plays helps viewers review important moments in supported sports content. These are meaningful advantages for people who watch several games at once, but they do not make YouTube TV automatically better for every sport or market.

Hulu + Live TV advertises access to major professional and college sports and includes networks such as ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FS1, FS2, NFL Network, and MLB Network, subject to location and plan terms. Check Hulu’s sports information and the live-channel list for current availability.
DVR: both are unlimited, but the details differ
DVR storage is no longer a major separator because both services advertise unlimited DVR. The more useful questions are how long recordings remain available, whether they can be fast-forwarded, how profiles organize them, and whether you are watching a recording or an on-demand replacement.
YouTube TV
- Unlimited DVR storage.
- Six household accounts, with recordings and recommendations associated with profiles.
- Three simultaneous devices on the standard plan.
- The 4K Plus add-on adds offline viewing for eligible recordings and unlimited simultaneous streams at home.
“Unlimited” does not mean permanent ownership, universal ad-free playback, or unlimited simultaneous viewing on the Base Plan. See YouTube TV’s 4K Plus terms before paying for the add-on.
Hulu + Live TV
- Unlimited DVR is included.
- Hulu states that live-TV recordings can be stored for up to nine months.
- Recorded live programming can be fast-forwarded under the applicable terms.
- On-demand shows are not the same as DVR recordings and may have different advertising and playback rules.
Neither service should be treated as a permanent archive. Rights changes, expiration rules, and the difference between a recording and an on-demand version can affect what you can watch later.

- Easier than ever to set up – Now with Direct Power, it's powered by your TV with the included USB-C cable and eliminates the need for a wall adapter.
- Live channels: both services carry the advertising inserted into live broadcasts. Paying for a higher tier generally does not remove commercials from live sports or live network programming.
- Recorded live TV: YouTube TV and Hulu may allow fast-forwarding depending on the recording and content rights.
- Hulu on demand: the $89.99 plan includes ads in the Hulu library. Premium upgrades reduce ads in eligible on-demand content but do not make every program ad-free.
- Disney+: the included tier and advertising depend on the Hulu plan and current package terms.
- Sports: commercials, studio segments, and rights-related interruptions remain part of many live broadcasts.
Hulu Premium + Live TV should not be understood as “all content without ads.” It is better described as an upgrade for eligible on-demand libraries, while live and rights-restricted content can still contain advertising.
Household experience and usability
YouTube TV is designed primarily as a live-TV replacement: channel browsing, a live guide, sports discovery, profiles, and DVR recordings are central to the service. Its standard plan supports six household accounts and three simultaneous streams. That is a strong fit for a family that watches different channels across several rooms.
Hulu + Live TV combines live channels with an established on-demand catalog, personalized profiles, a Live Guide, Disney+, and ESPN access. It can simplify billing for a household that already wants those services, although some content may still open through separate apps or experiences.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWithout current hands-on testing, it would be misleading to declare one app universally faster, more reliable, or easier to navigate. Before committing, test or verify:
- How quickly live channels switch on your main television.
- Whether finding a program already in progress is straightforward.
- How recordings are organized and whether a selected title opens the recording or an on-demand version.
- How easily family members switch profiles.
- Search quality for shows, teams, and channels.
- Device compatibility across your smart TV, streaming stick, phone, tablet, browser, or game console.
- Home-location, travel, and second-home rules.
YouTube TV directs users to its supported-device and plan information. Hulu provides its current compatibility and location requirements through its Live TV page.
Which service fits your household?
Choose YouTube TV if…
- You want the closest match to a conventional cable or satellite replacement.
- Sports and multi-game viewing are central to the decision.
- You need six household profiles and three standard simultaneous streams.
- Your local affiliates and required sports networks are available in your ZIP code.
- You do not already pay for Hulu and Disney+.
- NFL Sunday Ticket is an important part of your football plan.
Choose Hulu + Live TV if…
- Your household already uses Hulu and Disney+ or would subscribe to them separately.
- You want Hulu Originals and current-season on-demand shows alongside live TV.
- The included ESPN access and sports networks cover your teams.
- You value a bundled entertainment bill more than a dedicated live-TV experience.
- You accept advertising in the cheaper plan and understand that Premium does not remove every live-TV ad.
Consider neither base plan if…
- A required local affiliate or regional sports network is missing.
- You mainly follow one team or one league and could use a league-specific service instead.
- You need more simultaneous streams than the applicable plan provides.
- You want a completely ad-free experience.
- You rarely watch live TV and would not use most of 100+ channels.
Check before you subscribe
- Enter your ZIP code and confirm every local affiliate and regional sports network.
- List the exact teams, leagues, and competitions you watch.
- Check blackout rules and whether games are local, national, or out of market.
- Write down the regular monthly price, not only the promotional price.
- Remove duplicate Hulu, Disney+, ESPN, or premium-network subscriptions from your calculation.
- Confirm device compatibility and home-location requirements.
- Check simultaneous-stream limits for the plan you are buying.
- Decide whether you need YouTube TV’s 4K Plus features or a premium Hulu tier.
- Review add-on cancellation and billing terms separately from the base plan.
Final recommendation
YouTube TV is the better default recommendation for most households whose main goal is live television. Its lower regular price, six household accounts, three standard streams, unlimited DVR, Multiview, and NFL Sunday Ticket ecosystem make it the more focused cable replacement.
Hulu + Live TV becomes the better buy when the household will actively use Hulu, Disney+, and ESPN access. Its higher price can be justified when those bundled services replace subscriptions you would otherwise pay for. The winning service is therefore not determined by channel count alone: compare your ZIP-code lineup, sports rights, post-promotion price, existing subscriptions, and advertising expectations before choosing.
