Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCBR is only one part of a healthy YouTube live stream. YouTube checks the incoming codec and format, bitrate, resolution, frame rate, keyframes, audio, stream count, and connection independently. Start with the exact warning in Live Control Room, then verify that your encoder’s actual output matches the ingestion settings you selected.
Start with the exact health warning
YouTube’s Live Dashboard and Live Control Room check the stream arriving at YouTube. The health indicator shows timestamped messages; YouTube describes red errors as critical and potentially able to prevent an event from starting or cause viewer problems, while yellow errors are moderate and may reduce quality. A message that remains unfixed continues to appear. Use the wording of the message to decide what to inspect rather than treating CBR as proof that every setting is correct. YouTube’s live streaming error messages
- Bitrate: Check the numerical target and whether your connection can sustain it.
- Keyframes: Check keyframe timing and GOP configuration.
- Incorrect format or codec: Check that the encoder output matches the selected ingestion configuration.
- Resolution or frame rate: Compare the actual output dimensions and frame rate with the settings selected for the stream.
- Audio or stream count: Check for missing or multiple audio/video streams, unsupported audio, or channel issues.
These are ways to interpret YouTube’s documented warning categories, not a diagnosis of a stream that has not been inspected. Follow the specific error message for the configuration in use.
Verify encoder settings that CBR does not cover
1. Match codec and format to the ingestion setup
Confirm that the codec and stream format sent by the encoder agree with the YouTube ingestion configuration you selected. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, but the applicable requirements depend on the workflow and the warning. Do not assume a recommendation for one configuration overrides a format-specific error for another. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. - Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Keep CBR, but confirm the bitrate number
CBR is the recommended encoding mode, not a universal bitrate target. YouTube’s recommendation varies with ingestion codec, resolution, and frame rate; the requirement shown in Live Control Room can also depend on the selected ingestion settings. For a custom stream key with manual resolution settings, YouTube’s current encoder page gives these recommended examples:
| Codec | 1080p60 | 1080p30 | 720p60 | 720p30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 17 Mbps | 14 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 12 Mbps | 10 Mbps | 6 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
These are recommended bitrate settings from YouTube Help’s current encoder page, accessed in 2026; they are not universal targets for every ingestion setup. Consult YouTube’s page for other resolutions and frame rates, and prioritize the configuration and warning shown for your stream. If your available upload bandwidth cannot support the selected resolution, YouTube advises lowering it.

3. Set keyframes and GOP independently
YouTube recommends a keyframe every two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. Set a closed GOP if your encoder exposes that control. YouTube’s error guidance illustrates that a two-second interval at 30 fps means a keyframe every 60 frames. A stream can use CBR and still trigger a keyframe warning if its interval or GOP does not meet the recommendation. YouTube’s live streaming error messages
4. Check actual resolution and frame rate
Compare what the encoder is actually sending—not just the labels in a saved preset—with the selected ingestion resolution and frame rate. YouTube warns about unsupported or mismatched dimensions. Its encoder guidance supports up to 60 fps, but a particular configuration’s error message may specify a lower maximum. Make the encoder output and selected YouTube settings agree.

5. Confirm valid audio and one audio/video stream
Verify that the incoming stream contains one audio stream and one video stream. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio. Its error guidance also identifies missing audio, multiple audio streams, unsupported codecs, more than two channels, and sample-rate or channel requirements as possible problems. Check the exact message for the requirement relevant to your setup.
6. Send progressive video
YouTube says interlaced video is not supported for the incoming stream and recommends progressive video. If the warning concerns video format, verify that the source and encoder output are progressive.

Make sure your connection has enough upload capacity
A correct encoder target can still fail if the connection cannot sustain the outgoing stream. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. Shared network use can reduce the upload bandwidth available to the encoder, so account for other devices and applications, as well as every stream if you send primary and backup feeds. YouTube’s streaming tips
- Test outbound bandwidth under conditions similar to the event, not only when the network is idle.
- Include the total bitrate of all outgoing feeds in your capacity check.
- If capacity is insufficient, lower the chosen resolution or bitrate in line with the selected ingestion configuration rather than expecting CBR to compensate for the connection.
Test the actual programme before going live
YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned event, then monitoring stream health during the broadcast. A static test image or silent feed may not expose issues that appear in the real programme. Start a test early enough to read the timestamped health messages and correct any warning before the event. Troubleshoot by symptom
| Warning or symptom | What to verify |
|---|---|
| Bitrate warning or unstable quality | Confirm the target for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate; check real available upload capacity and the recommended 20% headroom. |
| Keyframe warning | Use a two-second interval where possible, do not exceed four seconds, and enable a closed GOP if available. |
| Incorrect format or codec | Compare the encoder’s actual output with the selected YouTube ingestion configuration and the applicable format guidance. |
| Resolution or frame-rate warning | Make actual encoder output agree with the selected resolution and frame rate; check whether the configuration imposes a lower maximum. |
| Audio warning | Check that audio is present, uses a supported codec, and meets the warning’s channel and sample-rate requirements. |
| Multiple or missing streams | Inspect the encoder’s output configuration for the expected single audio and video streams. |
| Interlaced-video warning | Change the incoming video to progressive. |
YouTube’s error page lists these categories; the appropriate fix depends on the exact message and ingestion workflow. Read YouTube’s error message definitions
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep pre-recorded video running as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo is a cloud option rather than an encoder you keep running on a home computer. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the loop running, so nothing has to stay on at home; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot regardless of quality. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. It is for uploaded video streams to YouTube, not live camera video. See StreamNeo or its plans, then start the free day.
