If an OBS stream from a VPS disconnects while sending to YouTube, first verify the current ingest URL and RTMPS settings, then test outbound TCP 443, DNS, and the VPS route. The phrase “BSNL VPS” does not establish whether BSNL hosts the VPS, supplies the VPS’s network connection, or refers to another service; there is no verified BSNL-specific RTMPS block or route issue here. Treat this as a connection fault to diagnose, not evidence of a particular provider’s policy.
Start with the endpoint YouTube gave this stream

Open YouTube Live Control Room and go to Stream settings. Reveal and copy the RTMPS URL for the current stream into your encoder. Do not rely on a remembered hostname or path: use the endpoint YouTube currently provides.

Check that the URL scheme is
rtmps, notrtmp, and that your encoder supports RTMPS. YouTube describes RTMPS as “a secure extension to the popular RTMP streaming video protocol.” (YouTube Help: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.) -
If OBS reports an SSL error, check the URL and specify port 443 as YouTube Help recommends. YouTube’s Live API guidance specifies an RTMPS connection on port 443 and TLS SNI set to the ingestion hostname (YouTube Live API: RTMPS ingestion). An encoder that connects to the wrong host, omits the expected SNI, or uses the wrong protocol may fail even if a port test succeeds.

Do not change the stream key or endpoint to a guessed value as a troubleshooting shortcut. Verify the current settings in YouTube and the encoder instead.
Check outbound firewall rules from the VPS
The VPS is initiating a connection to YouTube, so the first firewall question is whether outbound traffic from the VPS is allowed. Inbound port forwarding on a home router is not the default fix for a VPS-to-YouTube connection.

Inspect the operating-system firewall for outbound TCP connections to the configured YouTube ingest endpoint on port 443.

If the VPS provider has a separate firewall, security group, or network-policy panel, inspect that too. A guest firewall and provider-side filtering are separate possible control points.

Use the port and protocol YouTube currently specifies for the configured endpoint. Do not open unrelated ports or broad inbound access as a substitute for checking egress.

A TCP connection test can indicate whether a handshake to that port appears possible at the time of the test. It does not confirm a complete RTMPS/TLS handshake, correct SNI, a valid stream key, or a route that will remain stable throughout a broadcast.
Separate DNS and route problems from a firewall block

Resolve the exact ingest hostname in the URL copied from YouTube, on the VPS itself. Testing from a personal computer on another connection does not show what DNS or route the VPS is using.

Record the DNS answers and test at timestamps when streaming works and when it fails. Repeat the same checks so the results can be compared.

If comparing IPv4 and IPv6, change only the address-family setting for a controlled test. OBS documents testing IPv4-only as a troubleshooting option and recommends returning to the dual-stack default if it makes no difference (OBS: Stream Connection Troubleshooting).

Run traceroute or MTR from the VPS toward the configured destination and keep the time and results. These tools can show clues about the path, but intermediate routers may suppress diagnostic probes. Missing replies at one hop do not, by themselves, prove that hop is dropping the stream’s traffic.

General VPS troubleshooting guidance also recommends ping, traceroute, or MTR to investigate connectivity and distinguish local configuration or firewall problems from transit issues (Linode: Network debugging). A trace is evidence to share, not a definitive assignment of blame to the VPS host, transit network, or YouTube.
Tell a connection timeout from dropped frames
RTMPS connection timeout or SSL error
A timeout usually means the configured connection could not be established; an SSL error points you to verify the endpoint, protocol, port, and TLS behavior. Check the current YouTube URL, outbound TCP 443, DNS resolution, and whether the encoder supports RTMPS before concluding that a provider is blocking traffic.

OBS says dropped frames indicate an unstable path to the remote server or a bitrate higher than the connection can sustain; enough dropped frames can disconnect the stream (OBS troubleshooting guide). That differs from a connection that never establishes: it calls for checking sustained upload capacity and route stability as well as the endpoint.
OBS suggests trying another server, lowering bitrate, leaving Bind to IP at Default, testing IPv4-only where appropriate, and checking for firewall, antivirus, or VPN interference. Dynamic bitrate may reduce drops when available capacity varies, but OBS cautions that it does not fix the underlying cause and can lower video quality. Change one setting at a time and note the result.
Use a controlled test to narrow down the fault

Save the current encoder settings and logs, then confirm the current RTMPS URL and port from YouTube.

Test DNS resolution and outbound TCP connectivity from the VPS. If TCP cannot connect, check the guest firewall and any provider-side egress controls before changing encoder quality settings.

If TCP connects but RTMPS fails, check the encoder’s RTMPS support and TLS/SNI handling, then review the exact encoder error. A port test alone cannot validate these layers.

If the stream connects but drops frames, try a lower bitrate and review the OBS connection troubleshooting settings one at a time. Compare the configured bitrate with upload capacity that remains stable over time, not just a brief peak.

Repeat DNS, connection, and route checks during both a working and failing period. A stream that works from another network suggests a path-specific difference, but does not identify which network operator is responsible.
What to send the actual VPS provider
If the URL, encoder, and local firewall checks look correct, ask the company that actually provides the VPS or its network service to verify outbound RTMPS access and the upstream route. Include:

The failure time in UTC and whether it recurs.

The exact OBS or encoder error and relevant log lines.

The ingest hostname, protocol, and port from the current YouTube stream settings. Do not send your stream key.

Whether DNS resolution, a TCP connection to the endpoint, and the RTMPS/TLS connection succeed or fail.

The guest firewall and provider-panel egress-rule state, plus repeated traceroute or MTR results.

Ask whether outbound RTMPS is filtered and whether the provider observed a route or congestion issue at those times. Without identifying the VPS operator and checking its network, it is not possible to conclude that BSNL blocks RTMPS or is responsible for a route problem.
