If your YouTube stream keeps disconnecting overnight on BSNL broadband, first find out whether the encoder, your local network, or the broadband connection is dropping. The time of the reset is useful evidence to record, but it does not by itself show that BSNL is throttling or disrupting live streams. Check YouTube’s stream health and encoder logs, then test the connection and the relevant modem or ONT indicators while the problem is happening.
What an overnight reset does—and does not—tell you
A stream that fails at roughly the same time each night may point to a recurring condition, but timing alone cannot identify it. The failure could be in the encoder, Wi-Fi or cabling, the modem or access line, or somewhere along the route to YouTube’s ingest servers. The available documentation does not establish a widespread BSNL overnight reset or throttling issue.
Start by comparing what the encoder reports with what YouTube Live Control Room reports. If the encoder is still producing a healthy output but cannot deliver it, investigate the connection beyond the encoder. If ordinary internet access also fails at that moment, that is useful evidence of a broader local or broadband interruption.
Capture evidence before restarting equipment
At the next reset, write down the local time and timezone before rebooting the encoder, router, modem, or ONT. A restart can restore service, but it may erase useful status information.

- Copy the encoder’s exact error message and note its software version.
- Record the bitrate graph, network-dropped-frame count, resolution, frame rate, and whether the encoder’s local output remains healthy.
- Note the Live Control Room stream-health message at the same time.
- Check whether browsing or other devices on the same connection also lose internet access.
- Record whether Ethernet link lights, DSL, WAN, or ONT indicators change. Note which lights are steady, blinking, or off.
YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder health first; if the encoder output appears healthy, test the outbound internet connection and contact the ISP if it is failing. YouTube: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream
Check the encoder settings and upload capacity
Run a realistic test
Update the encoder software, confirm that it is not overloaded, and run a private or unlisted test with the same kind of motion and audio as the overnight program. A static test image may not reveal problems that appear with a more demanding scene. Watch stream health during the test and compare the encoder’s bitrate with the upload capacity the connection can sustain, rather than choosing a bitrate from a single peak speed-test result.

Use YouTube’s current encoding guidance
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Its recommended bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec, so use the current table for your actual configuration. For example, YouTube’s H.264 recommendation for 1080p at 30 fps is 14 Mbps. That is a platform recommendation, not evidence that a particular BSNL connection can maintain that upload rate continuously.

Separate Wi-Fi and cabling from the broadband connection
Test over Ethernet
If the encoder uses Wi-Fi, try a wired Ethernet connection for a comparable test. If the wired test is stable while Wi-Fi drops, focus on the wireless connection rather than immediately blaming the ISP. Check that the Ethernet cable is seated and that the router or modem LAN indicators show a link. If the LAN light is off, try a known-good cable or port if available.
A cable replacement is relevant only when Wi-Fi is being isolated or the existing cable or link is suspect; it will not fix an upstream provider fault. BSNL’s published customer guide includes Ethernet and Wi-Fi checks, but it is a regional Chennai guide and may not match current equipment interfaces. BSNL broadband guidance

Interpret the other devices’ results
- If only the streaming computer loses delivery, inspect its encoder, network adapter, cable, and local connection.
- If Wi-Fi devices fail but a wired device remains online, investigate Wi-Fi coverage or the wireless router.
- If wired and wireless devices lose internet together, record that with the modem or ONT indicators for BSNL support.
Check indicators for your BSNL access type
DSL or ADSL
On a DSL service, note whether the DSL light remains synchronized during the reset. BSNL’s legacy guide says an off or blinking DSL light—or one that goes off—warrants checking loose connections and the wiring, splitter, and modem path. If DSL remains steady but browsing fails on a PPPoE connection, check the modem’s WAN status for an authentication failure.
FTTH, ONT, or AirFiber
Do not apply DSL light instructions to fiber or AirFiber equipment. Check the indicators and status page for your actual ONT or device, record changes at the failure time, and use current instructions from your BSNL region. The cited BSNL guide is older and specific to Chennai; its menu names and equipment assumptions may not apply to newer installations.

Consider RTMPS for secure ingestion, not as a promised fix
YouTube recommends RTMPS, which carries RTMP through an SSL connection. If your encoder supports it, you can select the RTMPS server or protocol option shown in that encoder and use the corresponding YouTube stream configuration. This is a secure transport option; YouTube’s documentation does not say that switching protocols fixes an unstable Wi-Fi link, access line, or ISP route.
See Google’s RTMPS delivery documentation for the protocol details. Do not change unrelated settings at the same time, or it will be harder to tell what affected the result.
Report repeatable failures to BSNL
Once you have several observations, register a technical complaint through BSNL Self Care or call the broadband/Bharat Fiber support number listed there, 1800-4444. Provide the timestamps and timezone, encoder error, YouTube health status, whether other devices lost internet, and any DSL, WAN, or ONT indicator changes. Ask support to check line or session diagnostics around those windows. BSNL lists the complaint and customer-care routes on its Self Care site; it does not promise a particular cause or resolution time for this symptom.
