YouTube’s current guidance says channel memberships are separate from Premium benefits, and the sources available do not establish that the old offer is still available.
What did the 2020 report describe?
HotHardware reported on January 27, 2020, that some YouTube Premium subscribers had seen an offer page letting them choose one channel membership for that month. The reported offer covered a membership valued at up to $5, and the outlet said it had been seen in Australia, Canada, Germany, Norway, and Sweden. HotHardware’s report

The article said it was unclear whether YouTube would roll the offer out more broadly. It also relayed reports from some users who said they were charged despite the offer and that customer-service staff seemed unfamiliar with it. These details describe a limited historical report and user accounts, not confirmation of a standard or current benefit.
Does YouTube Premium include channel memberships now?
YouTube’s current help guidance says channel memberships are not included in YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium benefits. The two are distinct purchases: Premium is a platform subscription, while a channel membership supports a specific creator and provides that creator’s chosen perks. Creators can set up to six membership levels, with one to five perks per level. Higher-priced levels build on lower ones, so they include perks from the levels below. YouTube’s creator membership setup guidance
Possible perks include early access to public videos, custom emoji, and higher-effort benefits reserved for higher tiers. These are examples, not a standard package guaranteed across channels. YouTube’s creator tips

How should you compare Premium and a creator membership?
| What to compare | YouTube Premium | Channel membership |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | A platform subscription with its own benefits. | A purchase tied to one creator’s channel. |
| Included benefits | Does not include channel memberships, according to YouTube’s current help guidance. | Perks are set by the creator and vary by level. |
| Price | Not stated here; check YouTube’s current offer for your location. | Varies by channel and level; check Join or See perks before paying. |
The reported 2020 offer’s “up to $5” figure was a cap on the value of a membership in that offer, not a current membership price or a current Premium benefit.
