Brazil’s latest documented YouTube Premium increase took effect in 2025, not during the U.S. price change reported in April 2026. The reported Individual price is now R$26.90 per month, while Family costs R$53.90. Because taxes, billing platforms, promotions and legacy offers can change an account’s charge, Google says your own Purchases and subscriptions page is the final authority.
Did YouTube Premium just become more expensive in Brazil?
The most recent Brazil-wide increase identified was announced on April 3, 2025. New subscribers saw the new prices immediately; existing subscribers moved to the new rate from the next applicable billing cycle after notification. In April 2026, YouTube raised prices in the United States, but TecMundo reported that the company had no Brazilian increase planned “at the moment.” That U.S. change should not be presented as a new Brazil-wide hike.

YouTube says prices can vary by market, taxes, subscription status, offer and billing channel. Check YouTube’s price-change guidance and your account before cancelling or changing plans.

The 2025 standard-plan figures were reported by Canaltech and TecMundo. Premium Lite’s Brazilian launch price was reported by Canaltech. These are public reported prices, not a guarantee that every checkout will show the same amount.

What changed in 2025?
The largest percentage increase was on Family. Individual monthly billing rose from R$24.90 to R$26.90, annual Individual from R$249 to R$269, Family from R$41.90 to R$53.90, and Student from R$13.90 to R$16.90. Canaltech reported that existing subscribers were charged the new rate from their next billing cycle, while new users saw it at signup.

Premium versus Premium Lite

Lite is not “YouTube without ads.” It suits viewers who mainly watch ordinary videos and already pay for a separate music service. February 2026 coverage reported added background playback and downloads for supported content, but the checkout description for your account controls what is currently offered.

Family
Choose it for eligible household members who each need their own Google account. At six people, R$53.90 divided six is about R$8.98 per person monthly. With only two people, it works out to about R$26.95 each, slightly more than two Individual subscriptions.
Student
The Student plan is for full-time students at approved higher-education institutions and may require annual third-party verification. At the reported R$16.90 monthly price, it generally offers more than Lite for an eligible student. Details and eligibility are listed by YouTube Help.

Premium Lite
Lite is the lower-cost choice for video-first users who can tolerate ads in excluded areas and do not need YouTube Music Premium. Music-only listeners may find a service such as Spotify Premium Brazil more appropriate, but Spotify does not replace YouTube’s ad-free video, downloads or YouTube-specific background playback.

YouTube says a Family plan can include the administrator plus up to five additional members, for six people total, who live in the same household. Sharing with friends at different addresses is not the intended use and can create eligibility problems. A 2025 report also described YouTube checking the household requirement in Brazil.

How to verify the price Google will charge you
- Sign in to YouTube with the Google account that owns the subscription.
- Open Purchases and subscriptions.
- Select YouTube Premium.
- Review the recurring price, next billing date, payment method and any confirmation requested.
- If you subscribed through an app store or another platform, check that billing account too. Android subscriptions purchased through Google Play are billed by Google Play.
YouTube says it emails subscribers at least 30 days before a price increase in their country or territory. Web and in-app checkout may differ, so compare the channel you actually use.
When does a new price affect an existing subscriber?
- New subscribers pay the amount shown at signup.
- Existing subscribers generally move to the new amount on a billing cycle at least 30 days after the increase.
- A paused subscription is not charged while paused; the new price applies when it resumes.
- Canceling and later resubscribing can remove an older or promotional rate and trigger the current price.
Before cancelling, note your next billing date and whether your account displays a grandfathered offer.
Bottom line for Brazilian subscribers
The latest verified Brazilian change is the April 2025 adjustment: R$26.90 for Individual, R$53.90 for Family, R$16.90 for Student and R$269 annually for Individual where annual billing is offered. The April 2026 increase was reported for the United States, not as a confirmed Brazil-wide change. Use your Google billing page to confirm the exact amount, then choose full Premium, Lite, Student or Family according to the features and household rules that apply to you.
