What YouTube Music’s Activity feed does
The feature is called Activity. In the April 2024 rollout, the feed showed new singles and albums from subscribed artists, arranged in reverse chronological order with groupings such as “This week” and “Earlier.” Release artwork helped identify entries, and some users also saw a “Suggested for you” area with artists selected using listening-history signals. The initial test and rollout were reported by Thurrott and 9to5Google.
The Spotify comparison is about the practical job of spotting new releases from artists you follow. The documented YouTube Music feed focused on artist and channel updates; it did not establish a YouTube Music equivalent to Spotify’s friend-list or real-time listening activity features.
How to find the feed on a phone
- Open the YouTube Music app and select Home.
- Look near the top-right area for the bell-shaped Activity or notifications icon and tap it.
- Browse the dated list and tap a release to open it.
The initial rollout was reported for Android and iOS through a server-side update, rather than as a feature that appeared solely after installing a particular app version. The April 2024 report said the feed was not available on the web at that time. In June 2026, 9to5Google reported a mobile navigation change that moved Search into the bottom bar while the top-right area still included access to Activity or notifications. What you need to do to populate it
Subscriptions are the key distinction: subscribing to an artist or channel is not the same as liking one of its songs or saving an album to your Library. The reported feed drew release updates from subscribed artists, while suggestions could appear based on listening history. The exact relationship between YouTube Music artist follows and YouTube channel subscriptions can depend on the account and interface.

Why the feed might be empty or miss a release
An empty feed does not by itself show that the feature has been removed. You may have few artist subscriptions, be using a different Google account from the one with your subscriptions, or be looking at an artist whose release is not linked to the channel you followed. Availability may also differ by account, region, or server-side rollout.
The reporting confirms the intended release-update behavior, not guaranteed real-time delivery or complete coverage. A missing or delayed item may reflect release metadata processing, artist-channel matching, regional licensing, whether the content is classified as a single or album, or when you subscribed. A “Suggested for you” artist is a recommendation, not proof that you subscribed to that artist.

For listeners wondering whether to leave Spotify, the useful test is whether the YouTube Music feed reliably surfaces releases from their own followed artists. The timeline matters: Thurrott reported the test on March 19, 2024, and 9to5Google reported a broader Android and iOS rollout on April 9, 2024. A June 2026 report still described Activity or notifications access in the mobile app’s top-right area after a navigation change. That is evidence the feature remained present in the reported interface, not a guarantee that every user, market, or app version has the same implementation. Google’s public help material linked here does not document uniform availability or promise permanent feature behavior.
Podcast episode alerts remain a separate uncertainty. Early coverage discussed the possibility of podcast updates as YouTube Music became Google’s podcast destination, but the described rollout centered on singles and albums. Do not assume that every podcast subscription generates an Activity entry; check the behavior for the shows you follow.
When it is a good fit
Activity is most useful if you already use YouTube Music and want a place in the mobile app to check releases from artists you subscribe to. It is a promising convenience, not a guaranteed real-time alert service or proof of a complete Spotify replacement.
