If those checks pass, identify whether the problem is the link, WhatsApp connectivity, private-video access, or Android opening the link in the wrong app. The right fix depends on where it fails.
Share the playlist using YouTube’s Android app
- Open the relevant channel in the YouTube app and go to Playlists.
- Open the playlist’s more-options menu and tap Share to choose WhatsApp, or tap Copy link.
- If you copied the link, open the WhatsApp chat and paste it into the message field, then send it.
This is YouTube’s documented playlist-sharing workflow for Android. If sharing directly produces an error, try copying the link and sending it manually; that helps distinguish a YouTube-to-WhatsApp sharing error from a recipient’s trouble opening the URL. YouTube: Share playlists.
Check that the URL identifies a playlist
A YouTube video can be part of a playlist, but a link to that video is not necessarily a link to the playlist. YouTube’s documented desktop playlist URL pattern includes /playlist?list=, for example https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=<playlist ID>. If the message contains a video watch link instead, return to the playlist in YouTube and copy its link there. YouTube: Share playlists.
Check playlist visibility and private videos
If the link opens but the playlist or some videos are unavailable, check whether the playlist includes private videos. YouTube says viewers must be invited to see private videos; forwarding the playlist URL alone does not grant access. Confirm the playlist’s visibility and invite the recipient where required before treating the problem as a WhatsApp fault. YouTube: Share playlists; YouTube: Change video privacy settings.

Use the symptom to narrow down the cause

If WhatsApp cannot send or open other content
When the issue affects more than this playlist, test the network before changing YouTube settings. WhatsApp’s general guidance for media-file problems recommends checking the internet connection, trying mobile data instead of Wi-Fi (or the reverse), restarting the phone, and updating WhatsApp and Android. That advice addresses broader connection and media issues; it does not establish a specific fix for YouTube playlist deep links. WhatsApp Help Center.
If Android opens the link in a browser
The YouTube app may not be set to open supported links on a particular device. Check Android’s app or supported-link settings for YouTube if your phone exposes them. Menu names and availability vary by Android version and manufacturer, so there is no single path that applies to every phone.

A June 2025 Samsung Members community post describes YouTube links received through WhatsApp failing to launch the YouTube app after an One UI update and suggests checking supported-link handling. If YouTube errors while sharing
A YouTube Product Expert’s May 2025 community reply about an “Request contains an invalid argument” sharing error suggests updating YouTube and WhatsApp, restarting, comparing sharing from a browser, and checking VPN or system updates. The reported error concerns sharing from YouTube itself; it does not establish why a recipient’s playlist link will not open. Try lower-impact checks first. Clearing YouTube cache or data was also suggested in that community reply, but clearing data can remove downloads and sign you out. Avoid it unless you are prepared to restore app state, and do not assume it will solve a different link-opening problem.
Do not confuse a missing preview with a link that will not open
A WhatsApp message can lack a YouTube preview even when its URL is usable. A historical Stack Exchange discussion from 2020 concerned preview generation, not proof that a playlist link cannot be opened. Send the playlist link and test it directly before diagnosing a preview-only issue as a broken link. Android Enthusiasts Stack Exchange.
