YouTube Music’s Liked Music playlist limit appears to have increased from 5,000 to 10,000 entries around mid-2023. That change was described by a Google product expert in the YouTube Music Community, but Google’s main help pages still do not publish a numerical limit. The figure is best understood as a reported playlist cap—not proof that every like in an account is gone once the playlist reaches 10,000.
What changed: 5,000 entries became 10,000
An older Google Community answer described a 5,000-song playlist limit. A later response from a Google product expert said Google raised the limit to 10,000 in mid-2023. The later response is the clearest first-party account of the change, but it is community guidance rather than a prominent product announcement or a limit stated in Google’s main help documentation. Older Google Community guidance; Google Community response on the increase.
So this is not a newly announced 2026 change: the reported increase dates to around mid-2023. Google’s official help confirms that liked music appears in a dedicated Liked Music playlist, but does not give that playlist a maximum item count. YouTube Music library and likes help.
Does 10,000 apply to every playlist?
That is not established consistently. The Google Community response describes 10,000 as the current limit for playlists, while user reports suggest ordinary custom playlists may still stop at 5,000 even when Liked Music can show more. Google’s playlist instructions explain how to make or edit a playlist but do not state a count limit. Treat 10,000 as the reported Liked Music ceiling, not a guarantee for every playlist type or account. Google’s playlist instructions; User reports on custom playlist limits.

There is also a difference between the number of entries visible in Liked Music and the total like history associated with an account. Some users say older likes remain associated with their accounts after they stop appearing in the playlist, but Google does not clearly document that behavior as a guarantee. Do not assume that the playlist view is a complete archive—or that an unseen item can always be recovered. User reports about likes beyond the visible playlist.
What happens when Liked Music reaches its limit?
User reports describe the playlist ceasing to show older entries as newer likes are added. That can make an older track seem deleted, even though the playlist view alone cannot establish whether the account still retains its like. Nor do the available sources establish that older tracks remain searchable, playable, or included in shuffle once they disappear from the list.
