Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →If YouTube live streaming stopped working after a channel ownership change, first check Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility in YouTube Studio, confirm you are signed into the Google Account that has access to the correct channel, and look for a live-stream restriction or other notice. The timing may be relevant, but YouTube’s published guidance does not establish that changing ownership alone automatically disables live streaming.
Diagnose the channel before changing anything
- Confirm the active account and channel. Make sure the signed-in Google Account is associated with the channel and that you have the intended Brand Account owner or manager role, or the correct YouTube Studio channel permission. Brand Accounts can be managed by multiple Google Accounts, and YouTube Studio channel permissions are a separate access system. YouTube explains the distinction between Brand Account owners and managers.
- Check feature access and verification. In YouTube Studio, open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility. Review the live-streaming status and whether phone verification is complete or offered. YouTube says verification unlocks live streaming, but it does not override an active restriction. See YouTube’s feature eligibility guidance.
- Inspect notices and restrictions. Check Studio notifications and relevant channel email for a live-stream restriction, strike, copyright issue, or other enforcement notice. If a notice offers an appeal, follow its process. YouTube lists policy and copyright-related reasons that may turn off live streaming. Review YouTube’s live-streaming restrictions.
- Apply the rules for your streaming method. For live streaming generally, the channel must be verified, have no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and meet YouTube’s minimum age requirement of 16. Mobile streaming has additional requirements, including at least 50 subscribers; desktop and encoder streaming do not share that mobile subscriber threshold. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and mobile live-streaming instructions describe these conditions.
- Identify what “ownership change” meant. Determine whether someone’s Brand Account role changed, YouTube Studio channel permissions changed, or the channel itself was moved to another Brand Account. These are different operations; do not attempt a channel transfer merely as a troubleshooting shortcut.
- Escalate with details if access still looks correct. If eligibility shows access, verification is complete, no relevant restriction appears, and the correct account and channel are selected, use the in-product YouTube Help or Creator Support option available to that account. Provide the channel URL, exact error text, ownership-change date, role or permission change, streaming method, and a screenshot of Feature eligibility.
What YouTube’s requirements mean
YouTube’s general guidance says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Its current guidance also sets the minimum age to live stream at 16. Those are eligibility conditions, not an explanation of why a particular channel lost access.
For a first mobile live stream, YouTube says availability may take up to 24 hours after live streaming is enabled. That wait applies to first mobile streaming; it is not a general post-transfer recovery rule. Do not assume that waiting one day will restore access after an ownership change.
Phone verification and a clean feature-eligibility panel are useful checks, but neither permits streaming through an active restriction. YouTube prohibits using another channel to evade a live-streaming restriction; circumvention can lead to account termination.

Brand Account role change versus channel transfer
| Change | What moves or changes | Important check |
|---|---|---|
| Brand Account role change | People’s roles for the Brand Account change; the channel itself is not necessarily being moved. | A new primary owner must already have been an owner for at least seven days. Only one primary owner exists. |
| YouTube Studio channel permissions | Access is managed through YouTube Studio roles, a system distinct from Brand Account roles. | Confirm which access system is in use and that the new owner or manager has the intended permission. |
| Channel transfer between Brand Accounts | The YouTube channel is moved through a separate transfer flow. | Check the destination and any channel that may be replaced. YouTube warns that an incorrect transfer can delete the wrong channel and permanently lose its content. |
YouTube’s Brand Account instructions describe owner and primary-owner roles. Its channel-transfer instructions cover the separate move process and its risks. Neither page establishes that these changes inherently remove live-stream access.
If the channel is still unavailable
There is no official post-transfer recovery procedure identified for this exact situation, and YouTube’s published materials do not say an ownership change by itself disables live streaming. Use the channel’s eligibility panel, account roles, and restriction notices to narrow down the cause; if those checks do not explain it, ask YouTube through the support route available to the channel rather than making another ownership or transfer change.

Keep the channel compliant while investigating. Do not switch to another channel to get around an active restriction. For documentary uploads and streams, check that you have rights to the footage, music, and other material; a production device or streaming tool cannot fix an account restriction or missing verification.
