To loop a prerecorded Malayalam video on YouTube Live at 720p, use OBS Studio: add the file as a Media Source, enable Loop, set the output to 1280×720, and connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream using its stream URL and key. For 720p30 H.264, YouTube recommends 8 Mbps, with 3 Mbps listed as the minimum. Use CBR, a 2-second keyframe interval, and test the full stream before relying on it.

Add the Malayalam video
In OBS, create or select a scene, then add a Media Source and choose the video file. Enable Loop so the file starts again when playback ends. For a playlist of files, add a VLC Video source, load the playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for that source. OBS documents its media-source controls in its Media Sources guide, dated January 11, 2022.

Set the output resolution and frame rate
Open Settings → Video and set Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280×720. Set Common FPS Value to match the source where practical. For typical 720p material, 30 fps is a sensible starting point. Use 60 fps when the source or motion calls for it and your system can sustain it; OBS notes that 60 fps can use more system resources.

Configure the encoder
In Settings → Output → Streaming, select H.264 and set rate control to CBR. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube supports H.264, H.265, and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS and says the keyframe interval should not exceed 4 seconds. For ordinary stereo audio, use AAC or MP3, 128 Kbps, and 44.1 kHz stereo, matching YouTube’s listed audio recommendation.

These are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations; its Help page does not display a publication year, and the values below were accessed in 2026.

For a first setup, H.264 is the broadly supported choice. Choose a bitrate your measured upload connection can sustain continuously, leaving bandwidth headroom rather than matching the connection’s peak. YouTube’s live encoder settings provide the codec and bitrate figures.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

Create or schedule an encoder stream
In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder. YouTube recommends RTMPS when supported. Copy the stream URL and stream key from the stream settings.

Enter the stream details in OBS
In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube or the applicable service option, and enter the server URL and stream key. Treat the key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream. YouTube explains that stream keys connect an encoder to a stream and describes them as like a stream’s password and address in its stream key guidance. Its encoder setup instructions cover the Live Control Room connection.

Choose automatic or manual ingest settings
YouTube’s default is automatic detection of the encoder’s resolution and frame rate. Keep that default for a straightforward setup. If you need a fixed ingest resolution, create a custom stream key and enable manual settings; YouTube describes this option in its live encoder settings.
Test the loop and monitor stream health
Before making the stream public, run a private or unlisted test. Check the YouTube preview, audio level, and stream-health messages, and watch the video reach its end and restart at the beginning. This transition matters: the loop is configured in OBS, not by YouTube’s bitrate settings.

- Test with the same kind of movement and audio as the intended stream.
- Measure upload bandwidth and leave about 20% headroom, as YouTube recommends.
- YouTube advises setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand.
- Check the Live Control Room for errors and confirm the stream remains stable for a meaningful test period.

Choose frame rate, latency, and DVR deliberately
- 30 versus 60 fps: Match the source when practical. For a still or slowly moving documentary, 30 fps is often sufficient; 60 fps can demand more system resources. YouTube currently lists the same 720p bitrate recommendations for 30 and 60 fps within each codec group.
- Latency: Lower latency matters most when you need real-time audience interaction. For a prerecorded loop with little interaction, it is usually less important and can increase buffering risk.
- DVR: Enable DVR if viewers should be able to pause or rewind the live stream. Consider whether that viewing behavior suits the program before turning it on.
- Automatic versus manual resolution: Automatic detection is YouTube’s default recommendation; use a custom key and manual settings only if the workflow needs a fixed ingest resolution.
Check rights and YouTube policy before rebroadcasting
Technical setup does not establish permission to rebroadcast the video. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for the exact Malayalam recording and every included element, including music, performance, translation, subtitles, and archival footage. A license for one version or platform may not cover continuous live rebroadcast on YouTube. Review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules for the channel and material; the encoder instructions cannot determine whether a specific work is cleared.

Troubleshoot common problems
