For prerecorded music, normal latency is a sensible starting point; enable DVR if viewers should pause or rewind. Before going live, verify that you have the rights to livestream every track and video—and plan a separate recording if you need a complete archive.
Set up the YouTube Live stream
- Open the Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create / Go live, then use the Stream tab to create or schedule an encoder stream. Add the title, description, category, visibility, and other metadata. YouTube offers public, private, and unlisted visibility; check the selected setting rather than assuming a default.
- Copy the stream URL and key. Enter both in your encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP/RTMPS destination settings. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the encrypted version of RTMP. In Live Control Room, use the lock control in the Stream URL field to get the RTMPS URL if it is not already displayed.
- Protect the key. Treat it as a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the broadcast. You can use a custom key if you need one that is reusable. If the key is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder.
- Send a preview before starting. Start the encoder feed and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check that picture and sound are present and that the stream health indicators do not show an issue. Then select Go live when ready.
- End the event deliberately. Follow the Live Control Room’s end-stream workflow, then stop the encoder feed as directed. For a scheduled or long-running loop, test the full start and stop sequence in advance.
YouTube also offers auto-start and auto-stop settings. They can reduce manual steps, but they are not a guarantee against encoder, power, network, or platform interruptions. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance and encoder setup steps.
Choose encoder settings that your connection can sustain
There is no single correct bitrate for every loop. Use YouTube’s recommendation for the actual codec, resolution, and frame rate you send, and leave enough upload capacity for a stable feed. YouTube advises testing the available upload speed and matching stream quality to a reliable connection.
Video and keyframes
- Codec: YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1. Confirm that your encoder supports the codec you select.
- Resolution and frame rate: YouTube supports frame rates up to 60 fps. A static or gently moving music loop may not need 60 fps or the highest available resolution. Choose settings that preserve the source’s appearance without pushing the connection to its limit.
- Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube recommends.
- Keyframe interval: Set two seconds; YouTube recommends this interval and says not to exceed four seconds.
- Bitrate: YouTube’s table gives different recommendations by codec, resolution, and frame rate. For H.264, its listed recommendations include 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 6 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are format-specific recommendations, not a universal rate for every encoder or connection.
Audio
YouTube lists AAC and MP3 as supported audio codecs. Its guidance lists 44.1 kHz for stereo and recommends 128 kbps stereo audio. Check that the music is not clipping or missing in the preview; a technically connected stream can still have an unusable mix.

For its current encoder recommendations and bitrate table, use YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions page. YouTube transcodes the incoming feed into delivery formats for viewers, so the encoder’s outgoing settings do not determine that every viewer receives an identical format.
Latency and DVR: decide how viewers should experience the loop
Latency
Latency is the delay between capture and playback. For a prerecorded loop with no need to react to chat in real time, normal latency is a reasonable starting point. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase buffering and is less important when there is no audience interaction. If the broadcast includes live interaction, test the available latency options and watch for buffering before settling on one.

DVR
DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume a live stream. Turn it on in the stream settings if that behavior is useful to viewers; turn it off if you do not want viewers to seek backward. You can change the setting after a stream starts, but the change applies to viewers who begin playback after the change. Viewers cannot seek to before the broadcast began, and YouTube warns that rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams, including streams longer than 12 hours. Latency and DVR settings are covered in YouTube’s live stream settings help and its DVR guidance.
Plan continuity separately from the replay archive
A 24/7 broadcast and a complete replay are different requirements. YouTube says a live stream shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends making a local recording as a backup. Do not rely on the watch page to preserve a complete archive of a continuous 24/7 loop.

If a full replay matters, plan how to record, divide, store, and retain it separately from the live broadcast. Confirm that the recording is actually being written and that there is enough storage for the intended duration. The platform guidance does not establish a method that guarantees a complete archive of a 24/7 stream. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.
Preflight and monitoring checklist
- Set up the encoder well before the planned start and preview the feed in Live Control Room.
- Check that the intended watch page is accessible with the selected visibility.
- Listen for the expected audio and inspect picture quality in the preview.
- If keeping a local archive, confirm that the recording file is being created and growing.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream health messages and the encoder’s connection status.
- If you have a genuine backup encoder, test failover in a controlled test by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its network connection, then confirm whether playback moves to the backup. Do not assume failover works until you have tested it.
YouTube’s live streaming tips describe previewing, monitoring, checking local recordings, and testing encoder failover. Adapt the checks to your setup; a long-running loop still needs someone or some system able to respond when the feed fails.

Confirm music and video rights before broadcasting
Only include Punjabi songs and music videos when your rights cover the intended livestream and any archive. YouTube’s livestream terms place responsibility on the creator for all necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses), and other royalty participants. The terms also address archived content where applicable.
Owning a file, having permission to upload a track as a normal video, or being able to play it privately does not by itself establish permission for a worldwide continuous livestream and its archive. Check the license for each recording and composition, including covered territories, livestream use, duration, and archive permissions. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions state that the provider must have the necessary rights; this is a platform requirement, not legal advice about a particular catalog.

Troubleshoot common loop problems
| What you see | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| No preview appears in Live Control Room | The encoder is not sending to the selected event, or the URL or stream key is wrong. | Confirm the event, URL, and key match; check the encoder’s connection status. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the encoder. |
| Stream health reports instability or viewers buffer | The outgoing bitrate may exceed what the connection can sustain, or upload capacity may fluctuate. | Run an upload-speed test, lower the resolution, frame rate, or bitrate as appropriate, and retest. Keep CBR and the recommended keyframe interval; do not choose quality solely by the source file’s resolution. |
| Picture appears but audio is missing or poor | Audio may not be enabled or mapped correctly in the encoder, or its format/settings may be unsuitable. | Check the encoder’s audio input and track assignment, then preview and listen before going live. YouTube lists AAC or MP3 support and recommends 44.1 kHz stereo at 128 kbps. |
| The stream ends or disconnects unexpectedly | The encoder, computer, power, network, or service may have interrupted the feed. | Check encoder and network logs, power, and the stream health messages. Auto-start and auto-stop do not guarantee recovery from every interruption; test a backup path if you have one. |
| The live stream is available, but the full 24/7 replay is missing | YouTube may not capture streams exceeding 12 hours. | Use a separate local recording when a complete replay matters, and verify that recording during the broadcast. |
| A song is claimed, blocked, or otherwise restricted | The catalog rights may not cover the livestream, territories, or archive. | Review the rights for that track and the relevant platform notice. Remove or replace material you are not authorized to stream; do not assume a normal-video upload permission covers continuous live use. |
