If one video in your YouTube Live loop sounds louder or quieter than the next, first find out whether the difference is in the source files or enters later in the encoder and stream chain. Compare the same transition in the original videos, encoder feed, Live Control Room preview and a local archive. Then correct the source or routing problem you find and monitor a test stream. A viewer-side setting may soften the difference, but it does not repair the stream for everyone.
Find where the volume change begins
Use the same pair of clips and listen across their transition at a consistent playback volume. The goal is to locate the first point in the chain where the level changes; changing network settings will not fix a mismatch already present in the media.
- Play the source videos back-to-back. Use the same player and device volume. If the jump is already there, the source audio needs attention in your video or playlist preparation workflow.
- Listen to the encoder feed. Check whether the transition sounds uneven before the stream reaches YouTube. Inspect which audio sources are routed into the encoder and look for encoder errors or unusually high CPU load.
- Check the Live Control Room preview. Compare the same transition with what you heard in the encoder. YouTube recommends previewing before going live and monitoring stream quality.
- Review a local archive. Listen to the corresponding section of a local recording. YouTube advises checking the encoder and archive when stream audio is bad; the comparison helps narrow down whether the issue is in the source, encoder path or delivered stream.
YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance identifies poor audio/video sources routed to the encoder as one possible cause of bad stream sound. Its advice is to check the encoder and sources rather than assume every audio problem is a connection problem: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.
Fix the cause you identified
If the difference is in the source videos
Even out the clips in the workflow where you prepare the videos or playlist, then test the transition again. Keep the affected source pair together during the test; listening to one clip by itself will not reveal whether it matches the next one.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
If the difference appears in the encoder or stream chain
Verify which audio sources are routed to the encoder and whether an unintended source or routing change coincides with the transition. Check for encoder errors and CPU load, then compare the encoder feed, Live Control Room preview and local archive again. If audio remains bad after those checks, YouTube advises trying another encoder. See YouTube’s live stream troubleshooting steps.
Test the whole loop, not one clip
Before relying on a repeating stream, run a test live stream, preview it before starting and continuously monitor audio and video quality. Listen through the playlist transitions that have caused trouble; a clip can sound acceptable alone but noticeably different next to another one. YouTube’s guidance is to continuously monitor streams for audio and video quality and use its streaming tips.

What YouTube playback controls can—and cannot—do
Viewers can try Stable volume from the video’s Settings menu when the option is available. YouTube says it is on by default where supported and continuously adjusts playback levels to reduce quiet-to-loud variations. It is not available for every video, and it is a viewer-side adjustment—not a correction to the stream or saved recording for all viewers. Details: Control video volume on your device.
Voice boost is a separate playback option that reduces background sound and highlights vocals. YouTube says Stable volume turns off automatically while Voice boost is on; availability varies. It is not a creator-side fix for uneven playlist levels. The same YouTube playback-control guidance describes these settings.

Do not mistake audio format settings for loudness correction
YouTube’s HLS encoder recommendations specify 44.1 kHz for stereo audio or 48 kHz for 5.1 surround, with audio bitrates of 128 Kbps for stereo or 384 Kbps for 5.1. These are HLS format and ingestion recommendations, not a loudness-normalization target or a remedy for source clips that have different levels. See Set up an HLS stream.
YouTube’s cited live-stream and HLS guidance does not establish an integrated loudness target, true-peak ceiling, compressor ratio, limiter threshold or normalization method for playlist transitions. Avoid treating a particular LUFS or peak value, or a compression recipe, as a YouTube requirement. Start with the source, routing, encoder, preview and archive checks above.
