Download the video from Google Drive to the computer running OBS, add it to an OBS scene as a Media Source, and turn on Loop. Then connect OBS to a YouTube Live stream using the server URL and stream key from YouTube Studio. Drive stores the file; OBS sends the live broadcast.
Before you start
- A Google account with access to the video and permission to download it.
- OBS Studio installed on the computer that will run the broadcast.
- A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, according to YouTube Help.
- A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the chosen stream settings.
- Permission to rebroadcast the video’s picture and audio.
Download and check the video
- In Google Drive, open the file’s menu and choose Download. Google documents the download process in its Drive Help guide. The owner, sharing permissions, or organizational settings may prevent downloading; ask the owner for access if the option is unavailable.
- Save the file on the computer that will run OBS. OBS Media Source plays local files, so a Drive link alone is not the media source for this workflow.
- Play the downloaded file before going live. Check the full picture, audio, and intended start and end points. If it will loop, listen to the transition between the end and beginning; OBS does not guarantee a seamless boundary for every file.
Create the YouTube Live stream
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room.
- Create a stream, or select the scheduled stream if you are preparing an event in advance. Use the encoder details belonging to that stream.
- Find the stream URL and stream key in Live Control Room. Keep the key private: anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your stream.
If this is your channel’s first live broadcast, allow for YouTube’s stated activation period of up to 24 hours rather than waiting until the intended start time.
Add the video to OBS and make it repeat
- Open OBS and select or create the scene that should show the video.
- In the Sources panel, select + → Media Source. Name the source if useful, then select OK.
- In the Media Source properties, enable Local File if shown, browse to the downloaded video, and select it.
- Check Loop so the file plays again after playback completes. OBS documents Media Source and its loop property in OBS Media Sources.
- Confirm the video fits the canvas and that its audio is active in the OBS audio mixer. Play it in the preview and check that the loop behaves as intended.
For a rotation of multiple videos
Use OBS’s VLC Video source rather than adding a separate Media Source for each file. Add the files to its playlist and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for this source to be available. OBS notes that VLC Video supports a playlist, unlike a single-file Media Source; see its Media Sources documentation.
Connect OBS to YouTube and test
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Choose YouTube if it is available, then connect or enter the stream details as prompted. Alternatively, choose a custom service and enter the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Use RTMPS where available. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encoder ingestion.
- Set the output to a resolution and bitrate your upload connection can sustain reliably. YouTube’s current guidance for H.264 lists 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended for 1080p at 30 fps, and 3 Mbps minimum and 8 Mbps recommended for 720p at 30 fps. These are YouTube ingestion figures, not a guarantee your connection can maintain them. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.
- For the settings covered by YouTube’s guidance, use constant bitrate (CBR), a keyframe interval of two seconds (not over four seconds), and stereo audio at 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 kbps. YouTube lists frame rates up to 60 fps.
- Select Start Streaming in OBS. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then check stream health and messages before starting a scheduled event with Go live.
- Test beforehand with audio and movement similar to the real broadcast. Keep an eye on the OBS output and YouTube stream health during the event.
YouTube automatically transcodes an incoming stream into formats for viewers. The encoder settings determine what you send to YouTube; they do not require viewers to use the same playback format.

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
End the broadcast and plan for archiving
When finished, stop streaming in OBS and end the broadcast in Live Control Room as appropriate for the event. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume the same archive outcome for a stream lasting 12 hours or longer; plan separately if you need a recording.
Common problems and fixes
- Drive will not download the file: Check whether the owner or organization allows downloads and whether you are signed into an account with access. Request permission from the owner if needed; there is no universal workaround for a restricted file.
- OBS cannot find or play the video: Confirm the file is downloaded locally, the path points to the right file, and the file plays on that computer. OBS documents common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM.
- The video stops instead of repeating: Open the Media Source properties and check Loop. For multiple files, check Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.
- No preview appears in YouTube: Verify that OBS is streaming, the correct stream URL and key are entered, and the key belongs to the selected Live Control Room event. Check YouTube’s messages and stream health.
- The stream drops or reports connection trouble: Check the upload connection and lower the bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain the selected output. Use YouTube’s recommended settings as guidance, not as a substitute for stable upload capacity.
- Audio is missing or the loop sounds abrupt: Check the source’s audio in OBS’s mixer and replay the file locally. Test the actual loop boundary; not every file transitions seamlessly.
- Live streaming is not yet enabled: Complete YouTube’s channel activation steps and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded video that should remain live without leaving a home computer running, StreamNeo uploads and loops videos from the cloud to YouTube. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The computer and home connection do not have to stay on; the stream uses the uploaded quality up to 4K at 60 fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month.
