Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf OBS says it is streaming but YouTube Live Control Room says the stream is offline, check the intended event’s preview and stream-health messages first. No preview usually points to an ingest, URL, key, protocol, or network problem; a preview without a live event means you may still need to click Go live. OBS’s local streaming indicator alone does not confirm YouTube is receiving the feed.
Start by checking the right YouTube event
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and select the event OBS is supposed to feed.
- Check that the event’s stream URL and key match the destination configured in OBS. Reused stream settings can leave OBS using a key from an earlier stream, so do not assume the selected event and OBS destination match.
- Look at the event’s preview and stream-health status. YouTube says Live Control Room shows stream health and analytics while you are streaming: See your live stream’s metrics — Computer.
If there is no preview, YouTube is not showing a received feed for that event. Resolve the ingest path before troubleshooting whether the event has been published. If a preview is visible, proceed to the event-start step below.
If YouTube has no preview
Verify the stream URL, protocol, and key
Copy the stream URL and key from the intended event in Live Control Room, then check the destination in OBS. If using RTMPS, copy the RTMPS URL from stream settings using the lock icon. A connection timeout can occur when the URL is wrong or the encoder does not support RTMPS. YouTube’s RTMPS guidance covers URL and SSL troubleshooting: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
If OBS cannot start the encoder connection, YouTube recommends generating a new stream key and updating the encoder. Use the error shown in Live Control Room to decide whether a key refresh or a URL/protocol correction is relevant; they are separate checks. See Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check OBS connection status and network delivery
OBS’s official guide defines dropped frames as a connection to the remote server that is unstable or a configured bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Too many dropped frames can disconnect OBS. They point toward network delivery, not proof that OBS itself is defective. See OBS Project’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting (published 2024-09-30).
- Prefer Ethernet while diagnosing Wi-Fi instability. Replace a cable only if it is suspect; neither step is a universal fix.
- Lower the video bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it. OBS offers 75% of total upload speed as a starting-point troubleshooting heuristic, not a YouTube requirement or guarantee.
- Check that OBS’s Bind to IP setting is Default.
- Temporarily investigate VPNs, security software, network-optimization software, drivers, router or modem problems, and cables if they may be interrupting delivery.
- Dynamic bitrate may reduce dropped frames during congestion, but it does so by reducing quality and does not repair the underlying connection.
YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate. Compare the complete outbound stream load with stable upload capacity, not just the video bitrate. If OBS output appears healthy but delivery remains unstable, test the connection and contact your ISP if the connection itself shows problems. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

If YouTube shows a preview but says offline
A preview confirms a feed is reaching the selected event; it does not necessarily mean the event has been started or published. YouTube’s encoder workflow is to start the encoder, wait for the preview, and then click Go live when prompted. Follow the status in Live Control Room, then check the channel or watch page to confirm the event is live. The workflow is documented at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
If you have already followed the event-start workflow, confirm the selected event is still the intended one and read its health messages rather than repeatedly changing unrelated encoder settings.

Match encoder settings to YouTube’s error
Use the exact format or health error in Live Control Room to guide changes. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS; video codecs H.264, H.265, and AV1; CBR rate control; and a recommended 2-second keyframe interval that should not exceed 4 seconds. For an incorrect-format error, YouTube’s guidance specifies H.264 video and AAC audio. Its bitrate ranges vary by resolution, frame rate, and codec, so consult the current table for your chosen output rather than applying a generic bitrate. See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions and Live streaming error messages.
Change the setting named by the error where possible. For example, an incorrect-format error calls for checking format and codec, while no preview without a format error calls for checking the destination, key, connection, and event selection first.

Quick diagnosis by symptom
| What you see | What it suggests | What to check next |
|---|---|---|
| No preview in the intended event | YouTube is not showing a feed for that event. | Event selection, URL, protocol, stream key, OBS connection, and network delivery. |
| Preview appears, event remains offline | The feed is reaching the event, but the event may not have been started. | Follow YouTube’s encoder workflow and click Go live when prompted. |
| OBS shows dropped frames or disconnects | Connection instability or bitrate beyond what the connection can sustain. | Test wired connectivity, bitrate, upload headroom, VPN/security interference, and network hardware. |
| YouTube displays a specific health or format error | The reported condition may identify an encoder or format mismatch. | Apply the correction for that exact message; avoid unrelated setting changes. |
| One viewer reports playback trouble, but the dashboard shows a healthy feed | The viewer’s playback or network may differ from the upstream ingest state. | Distinguish an individual viewer problem from a feed missing or unhealthy in Live Control Room. |
