For a 720p YouTube Live stream, YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends 8 Mbps for H.264 or 6 Mbps for AV1/H.265, at either 30 or 60 fps. Set the encoder to constant bitrate (CBR) with a 2-second keyframe interval, use RTMPS where available, and leave upload-bandwidth headroom. Before streaming Telugu movie trailers, separately confirm that you have the rights to each trailer and its audio; correct encoder settings do not grant permission to broadcast copyrighted material.

Recommended YouTube Live settings for 720p

These are live-stream ingestion settings: they describe what your encoder sends to YouTube. YouTube then transcodes the live stream into viewer output formats. Do not substitute YouTube’s separate video-upload encoding recommendations for this live encoder table. The figures below are from YouTube’s current encoder-settings guidance, accessed October 3, 2026.

Resolution and frame rate Codec Listed minimum bitrate Recommended bitrate
1280 Ă— 720, 30 fps H.264 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1280 Ă— 720, 60 fps H.264 3 Mbps 8 Mbps
1280 Ă— 720, 30 fps AV1 or H.265 2 Mbps 6 Mbps
1280 Ă— 720, 60 fps AV1 or H.265 2 Mbps 6 Mbps

Use the recommended value as your target rather than treating the minimum as the quality goal. For a trailer presentation, 30 fps is a reasonable starting point; choose 60 fps if the source and production call for it. YouTube lists the same bitrate recommendations for both frame rates at 720p.

Configure the stream, step by step

  1. Create or select the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream. YouTube normally detects the encoder’s resolution and frame rate automatically. A custom stream key allows manual resolution selection.
  2. Set the video output. In your encoder, choose 1280 Ă— 720 and the intended frame rate, either 30 or 60 fps. Set the video codec and bitrate to the corresponding recommended value in the table above.
  3. Set rate control and keyframes. Choose constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
  4. Choose a transport protocol. Use RTMPS if your encoder offers it. YouTube describes RTMPS as a secure extension to RTMP.
  5. Configure audio. YouTube supports AAC or MP3. Its advanced guidance recommends 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 Kbps for stereo audio.
  6. Check upload capacity. Run an upload-speed test and make sure your available upload bandwidth can carry the total video and audio bitrate. YouTube recommends 20% headroom; upload speed may be lower than download speed.
  7. Test before the scheduled broadcast. Send a test with audio and motion similar to the actual trailers. Check the Live Control Room preview, stream health, and any messages before and during the broadcast.

Trailer rights and YouTube’s live copyright checks

Encoder settings only address technical delivery. YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If it identifies a match, a placeholder may replace the stream; if the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the broadcast.

If you have licensed third-party trailers, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube warns that a license without allowlisting may still result in an interruption. Confirm that your permission covers each trailer and all included elements, such as music, before scheduling the stream. Copyright rules and exceptions vary by country or region, and YouTube cautions that permission or a qualifying exception does not guarantee avoiding a claim or strike. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and its general copyright guidance.

Choose an encoder that fits the production

YouTube accepts software and hardware encoders; dedicated hardware is not a prerequisite for a 720p stream. Compare options by the codec they support, whether they can sustain your target resolution, frame rate, and bitrate, connection stability, available audio and video inputs, and whether your production actually needs dedicated hardware. YouTube says expensive equipment is not required to start. Its live streaming overview explains encoder options and setup.

Troubleshooting a 720p broadcast

  • The preview is unstable or the stream drops: Check upload speed and whether the total bitrate fits the available connection. Leave the recommended 20% headroom, then test again.
  • The encoder output does not match the intended resolution or frame rate: Check the encoder’s output settings and the stream configuration in Live Control Room. YouTube usually detects resolution and frame rate automatically; a custom stream key can be used for manual resolution selection.
  • YouTube flags or replaces trailer content: This is a rights or Content ID issue, not a bitrate problem. Confirm permission for the material and ask the rights owner about channel allowlisting. A license alone may not prevent an interruption.
  • Audio is absent or unsuitable: Verify the encoder is sending AAC or MP3 audio and check the stereo sample-rate and bitrate settings against YouTube’s advanced guidance.
  • Image quality is poor despite a stable connection: Confirm the encoder is sending 1280 Ă— 720 at the intended frame rate and the codec-specific recommended bitrate, rather than only meeting the listed minimum.
