YouTube for visionOS became available on February 12, 2026, giving Apple Vision Pro an official native YouTube app for the first time. It is a free, dedicated visionOS application—not YouTube running in Safari or a compatible iPad app.
The launch fills one of Vision Pro’s most obvious software gaps. It improves browsing and large-screen viewing for existing owners, but it does not turn ordinary YouTube videos into Apple Immersive Video, and YouTube alone is unlikely to justify buying a $3,500-class headset.
What exactly launched?
The App Store application is named YouTube for visionOS. You can find its official listing at Apple’s App Store. It is a native visionOS app with an interface designed for Apple Vision Pro’s eye and hand tracking.
That is different from the earlier options:
- Safari: YouTube.com works in a browser but is not a native app.
- Compatible iPhone or iPad software: An app that merely runs as a compatible iPad application is not the same as a visionOS-native release.
- Third-party clients: Before the official release, users tried wrappers and alternative clients. MacRumors and TechCrunch reported that the best-known example, Juno, was removed after YouTube objected that it violated YouTube’s Terms of Service.

When did YouTube for visionOS launch?
The app was announced and made available on February 12, 2026. Apple Vision Pro launched in the United States on February 2, 2024, so the native YouTube release arrived roughly two years after the headset’s U.S. debut. The launch date was reported by MacRumors, TechCrunch, and 9to5Mac.
What can the app do?
Native eye-and-hand control
You browse and operate the app with Vision Pro’s eye tracking and hand gestures rather than a mouse or touchscreen. The interface can place YouTube on a theater-sized virtual screen, with optional visionOS surroundings and Environments.
Account features
YouTube says the app supports subscriptions, watch history, playlists, and personalized recommendations. Sign in if you want those account-linked features to follow you into Vision Pro.

Video formats
The catalog includes standard flat videos and Shorts, along with supported 180-degree and 360-degree videos. Playback still depends on the creator’s source file, encoding, network connection, app and visionOS versions, account status, and regional availability.
MacRumors reported that M5 Vision Pro users can play YouTube videos in 8K. That is a reported device-and-app capability, not a promise that every video is delivered in 8K or that every viewer sees 8K detail in each eye.
Vision Pro hardware and resolution
Current launch reporting identifies compatibility with Vision Pro hardware using Apple’s M2 and M5 chips. MacRumors specifically associates 8K playback with the M5 model. Apple’s current Vision Pro information is at apple.com/apple-vision-pro.

Most importantly, native does not mean spatial. A conventional YouTube video remains conventional video displayed on a large virtual screen. YouTube’s 180-degree and 360-degree uploads are also not automatically Apple Immersive Video.
Apple describes Apple Immersive Video as its own 180-degree, 3D, 8K format with Spatial Audio. That is a separate capture and delivery system from user-uploaded YouTube VR180 or 360 content.
YouTube Premium and missing features

Premium benefits are account-level services, so an existing subscriber can sign in, but the Vision Pro app should not be treated as having every mobile Premium behavior. In particular, the support page does not promise identical downloads, background playback, or other platform-specific functions.

How to install YouTube for visionOS
- Put on Apple Vision Pro and open the App Store.
- Select Search.
- Search for YouTube.
- Choose YouTube for visionOS, not an unrelated client or a compatible iPad listing.
- Download the free app.
- Open it and sign in if you want subscriptions, history, playlists, and recommendations synchronized with your YouTube account.
After installation, browsing and playback should be controllable with eye and hand tracking, with videos shown in a large virtual viewing window.
If the app does not appear
- Confirm that you are using Apple Vision Pro, not another Apple device.
- Update visionOS and search the exact name YouTube for visionOS.
- Check that your Apple Account and App Store region support Vision Pro and the app.
- Verify the current hardware and operating-system requirements in the live App Store listing.
- If an installed app will not open, restart Vision Pro and check for an update.
- Use YouTube in Safari as the fallback.

The meaningful change is platform integration and convenience, not a transformation of YouTube’s catalog into spatial media.

Is the app a reason to buy Apple Vision Pro?
For existing owners
Yes, it is a substantial quality-of-life improvement. YouTube is a major everyday video service, and native eye-and-hand browsing is more convenient than relying on Safari or a client that may disappear.
For prospective buyers
YouTube alone is a weak reason to purchase Vision Pro. The app is free, YouTube already works on ordinary devices and in Safari, and the headset’s price, weight, battery constraints, and regional availability remain unchanged. Apple’s original U.S. launch announcement listed a starting price of $3,499 in January 2024; that historical figure should not be treated as the current price of every model or market.
For immersive-video enthusiasts
Judge the experience by the actual VR180 and 360 catalog you intend to watch. Separate that evaluation from the app interface, and do not equate YouTube uploads with Apple’s professionally produced Immersive Video titles.
What the launch still does not solve
- Ordinary videos are not automatically spatial or stereoscopic.
- Apple Immersive Video-quality production is not guaranteed by a YouTube listing.
- Premium signup and content purchases remain unavailable inside the app.
- Live-chat support was absent at launch and may depend on later app changes.
- Offline-download support is not established by the cited Vision Pro documentation.
- The release says nothing by itself about when other missing services will arrive.
Other viewing options
Safari remains the dependable fallback if the native app is unavailable in your region or on your current software. Apple has also promoted native Vision Pro experiences from several other streaming services, but each service’s availability and feature set varies. Apple’s platform announcement lists examples at apple.com/newsroom/2024/06/apple-vision-pro-arrives-in-new-countries-and-regions-beginning-june-28. Do not infer from those listings that every service, including Netflix, has a native app.

YouTube’s February 12, 2026 release makes Apple Vision Pro feel less incomplete by replacing a browser-first workaround with a proper native app. It is useful for account-based browsing, theater-sized viewing, Shorts, and selected 180-degree and 360-degree videos. The trade-offs remain: Premium cannot be purchased in the app, launch-era live chat was unavailable, offline downloads are unconfirmed, and most of YouTube is still flat video on a virtual screen. For owners, install it. For buyers, treat it as overdue platform polish—not a standalone justification for the headset.
