VLC must be installed for this source to appear. The playlist-order controls work the same way in India as elsewhere; this is a local OBS workflow, not a guide to YouTube channel eligibility.
Use VLC Video Source for a sequence of local files
OBS’s built-in Media Source is suited to playing one file. For multiple local gaming recordings in a scene, use VLC Video Source, which supports a playlist. OBS describes it as a way to create a playlist of items, similar to an image slideshow. The files in this workflow are selected from your computer; this does not establish that a YouTube-hosted playlist URL can be pasted into the source and managed in the same way. - Install VLC if needed. OBS requires VLC for VLC Video Source to appear. On a 64-bit OBS installation, use 64-bit VLC. OBS lists the source for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- Add the playlist source. In OBS, use the Sources dock to add a VLC Video Source to the scene you will use for the rerun.
- Load the local media files in the intended sequence. The playlist plays in file-list order when shuffle is off. OBS’s documentation does not specify the exact current UI gesture for moving an item that has already been added; check the controls shown in your installed OBS version rather than assuming a drag gesture or button.
- Set playback behavior. Leave Shuffle Playlist off for a planned sequence. Enable or disable Loop Playlist depending on whether you want playback to start again after the last item.
- Preview before going live. Check that the first file, transitions between files, audio, and the final item behave as intended.
Playlist order is not scene-source stacking order
OBS’s Sources dock can also order scene sources, which affects how they stack visually in the scene. That is separate from the order of media entries inside a VLC playlist. Changing a source’s position in the Sources dock does not establish or change the order of videos in the playlist. See the OBS Project Sources Guide.
Choose YouTube encoder settings for the stream you are sending
Playlist order only controls what OBS plays. Your encoder settings govern the video sent to YouTube. YouTube recommends RTMPS for live ingestion; choose bitrate according to your codec, resolution, and frame rate, then test with movement and audio similar to the planned rerun. The figures below are YouTube’s published recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular upload connection in India can sustain them.

YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe interval and says it should not exceed 4 seconds. Match the settings to your encoder and stream, check YouTube’s current live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions, and monitor stream health after going live. YouTube’s guidance is to test before starting the live stream.
Optional cases: HDR and HLS
- HDR: This is only relevant if your source content and encoder support HDR. YouTube’s HDR live workflow currently supports H.265/HEVC; its OBS RTMPS instructions specify OBS 30.1 or later. Most standard SDR gaming reruns do not need HDR settings.
- HLS ingest: HLS is a YouTube ingest option, not an OBS playlist feature. YouTube says HLS has higher latency than RTMP. For HLS, YouTube requires segments between 1 and 4 seconds and a rolling playlist with no more than 5 outstanding segments. Do not confuse those transport requirements with the order of files in VLC Video Source. See YouTube’s HLS setup guidance.
Troubleshoot common playlist problems
- VLC Video Source is missing: Install VLC, then reopen or check OBS. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- Files play in an unexpected sequence: Check that Shuffle Playlist is off and verify the order displayed in the VLC source’s file list. The exact reorder gesture depends on the installed UI; consult its controls rather than relying on OBS scene-source ordering.
- The sequence starts again after the final file: Check Loop Playlist. That setting determines whether the source restarts after the last item.
- The live stream buffers or drops frames: Recheck the YouTube encoder recommendation for your codec, resolution, and frame rate, then test the upload connection with comparable motion and audio. A recommended bitrate is not proof that your connection can sustain it.
- YouTube reports stream-health trouble: Check the encoder output and stream-key configuration, then follow the status details shown in YouTube Studio. Test before the intended broadcast and keep monitoring after it begins.
Copyright and channel-policy checks before a rerun
Use recordings and audio you have the rights to stream. A gaming video can include music, cutscenes, or other material subject to copyright claims even when the gameplay itself is yours. A live rerun also does not guarantee compliance with YouTube’s monetization or reused-content policies. Review YouTube’s current rules for your channel and the rights attached to every item in the playlist before broadcasting.
