Last checked: August 18, 2026. YouTube does not maintain one complete public database of every consumer bug, so this tracker separates officially confirmed problems from user reports, interface experiments, third-party client issues, and feature requests. The January 2 update is treated as a historical snapshot rather than proof that every listed issue remains active.
For current problems, compare devices and accounts before assuming YouTube is experiencing a widespread outage. When reporting an issue, use YouTube’s official feedback process and include your app version, operating system, device, region, network, and reproducible steps.

“Last checked” means the latest date covered by the available evidence, not a guarantee that the issue is active everywhere. YouTube uses staged rollouts and A/B tests, so two people can legitimately see different interfaces on the same day.

Android navigation buttons disappeared for some users
On June 3, 2025, Android Authority reported that YouTube had acknowledged an Android problem in which bottom-navigation buttons, including Subscriptions, Notifications, and Library, disappeared for some users. YouTube described the stated scope as users in the United States and said it was investigating. Reports from users in other countries suggested the behavior may have been broader, but those reports should not be treated as an official global scope.

This type of failure can be server-side rather than caused by a damaged installation. Check whether the buttons return when you:
- switch between signed-in and signed-out sessions;
- use another account on the same phone;
- compare a Premium and non-Premium account, if available;
- rotate between portrait and landscape orientation;
- open YouTube in a mobile browser; and
- try another device or network.
If the problem follows one account across devices, an account or server-side rollout is more plausible. If it appears only in one installation, local app data or device compatibility becomes more likely. Clearing cache or reinstalling is not proof of a permanent fix.

Uploads stalled at 0% or during suitability checks
On May 7, 2025, YouTube acknowledged a creator-facing problem affecting some uploads and Shorts. Videos could remain at 0% or stall during the suitability check. Reports indicated that both mobile and web users could be affected, so changing browsers or moving from a phone to a computer was not necessarily a solution.
Tracker label: Confirmed historical issue; do not assume that a current stalled upload has the same cause.

- Transfer failure: the file is not reaching YouTube, often shown by no meaningful upload progress.
- Processing delay: the transfer completed but YouTube is still preparing different resolutions or formats.
- Copyright checks: automated checks are still running or have produced a claim.
- Suitability review: YouTube is evaluating whether the video is suitable for advertising.
- Account or channel restriction: the upload may be blocked for a policy, verification, or channel-specific reason.
Keep the original local file. Do not delete a stalled upload or assume that re-uploading will fix a server-side problem. Use YouTube Studio to compare the mobile app with the channel’s web status, but Studio cannot repair an infrastructure-side outage.

Player and full-screen behavior: bug, rollout, or redesign?
YouTube has repeatedly tested and changed its Android player. Reports have included relocated controls, extra information around the player, altered gestures, and different full-screen presentation. A changed layout is not automatically a bug. It becomes a bug candidate when controls are inaccessible, gestures fail, the video is cropped incorrectly, the aspect ratio is wrong, or a previously available function disappears unexpectedly.
Gray bars around videos
A historical Android report described gray bars around some full-screen videos. Android Authority reported on March 27, 2025, that YouTube beta version 20.13.32 appeared to revert the behavior while the stable release was still reported as affected at that time. That does not establish the current behavior in 2026.

If you see gray bars, record the video’s aspect ratio, phone model, Android version, YouTube version, orientation, and whether the same video behaves normally in a browser or on another device. A screenshot without those details cannot establish whether the problem is YouTube, the source video, or the display’s aspect-ratio handling.

Relocated player controls
In October 2024, YouTube was reported to be A/B-testing an Android player interface with relocated controls and additional information around the player. Such changes may be intentional experiments shown only to selected accounts, regions, devices, or app versions.
Tracker label: Rollout or A/B test—not automatically a defect.
Clearing cache, reinstalling the app, or changing phones may not remove a server-side experiment. If one account sees a different action bar from another account on the same device, that is evidence of account or experiment variability, not by itself evidence that the installation is broken.

June 2026 button-layout experiment
A June 18, 2026 report described YouTube testing a new arrangement of buttons beneath Android videos, including removing text labels from some controls and moving the likes count.
Tracker label: UI test—availability varies.
This should not be described as a universal YouTube redesign or a confirmed bug. If the layout makes an established action inaccessible or behaves inconsistently, submit screenshots showing the date, account context, device, and app version.

Reported problems that need stronger evidence
Individual complaints about buffering, missing subscriptions, broken queues, disappearing controls, Premium benefits, casting, captions, recommendations, analytics, and monetization can be genuine. They should not be presented as platform-wide bugs without corroboration.
A useful report establishes scope:
- one video or every video;
- one account or multiple accounts;
- one device or several devices;
- Wi-Fi, cellular data, or both;
- the official app, mobile browser, desktop browser, TV, or cast receiver;
- signed-in and signed-out behavior; and
- the exact app, browser, and operating-system versions.
Reports become more credible when multiple users reproduce the same symptom with comparable versions and provide screenshots, recordings, or precise steps. A single social-media complaint is a lead, not confirmation.

Third-party and modified YouTube clients
Problems in a patched or modified YouTube installation should not be counted automatically as official YouTube bugs. A June 24, 2026 report on Morphe version 1.32.0 listed fixes involving navigation animation, player panels, hidden layouts, link handling, reload behavior, tablet mode, and YouTube Music queues. It also listed compatibility targets for particular 2026 versions of YouTube and YouTube Music.
That information describes the modification layer’s compatibility, not an official YouTube release or a Google service fix. A patch can introduce failures that do not occur in the official app, while an app update can break the patch even when YouTube itself is operating normally.
For diagnosis, reproduce the issue in the official app or at youtube.com before attributing it to YouTube. Unofficial clients and APKs can carry account, privacy, security, and policy risks; they are not a default workaround for playback, upload, Premium, or navigation problems.

- consistent navigation across phones, tablets, web, TVs, and consoles;
- clearer Premium-benefit and account-entitlement status;
- better upload-progress and processing diagnostics;
- more transparent communication about A/B-tested interface changes;
- improved captions, accessibility labels, keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, contrast, and touch targets;
- better filtering and management for comments, recommendations, and Shorts; and
- a searchable public status page for consumer-facing YouTube bugs.
“Requested,” “pending,” and “being considered” do not mean Google has committed to delivery. Do not infer a development commitment from repeated user requests or from a publication’s wishlist.
How to troubleshoot a YouTube problem
1. Establish the scope
Ask whether the problem affects one video or all videos, one account or every account, one network or both Wi-Fi and cellular data, and the app or youtube.com. Check whether other services work normally.
2. Compare platforms
Test the official mobile app, a mobile browser, a desktop browser, and—where relevant—a TV, console, or casting device. If the issue follows the account across devices, it may be account- or server-side. If it stays on one installation, local data, extensions, or device compatibility become more plausible.

- Update YouTube through the official app store.
- Force-close and reopen the app, then restart the device.
- Test another network.
- Temporarily disable a VPN, DNS filter, content blocker, or browser extension.
- On Android, clear the app cache before considering storage or data removal.
- On desktop, use a private window and a second supported browser.
- For casting, restart both the phone and receiving device.
- For uploads, preserve the original file and avoid deleting a stalled upload prematurely.
None of these steps is a guaranteed fix. Clearing storage, reinstalling, or downgrading can remove local settings, downloads, or other data and may not affect a server-side problem.
How to report a YouTube bug effectively
Use YouTube’s official issue-reporting guidance. Include:
- the exact symptom and the date and time, including time zone;
- your country or region;
- device model and operating-system version;
- YouTube app, browser, or TV-platform version;
- whether Premium is active, when relevant;
- network type;
- the video or channel URL, where appropriate;
- numbered reproduction steps;
- a screenshot or screen recording; and
- what happened after restarting, changing networks, or trying another platform.
Remove payment information, authentication codes, passwords, and unrelated personal data. A concise report that another person can reproduce is more useful than a general statement that “YouTube is broken.”
How this tracker classifies issues
The evidence hierarchy is:
- an official YouTube or Google statement;
- an official Help Community thread with a recognizable YouTube response;
- reproducible reports across multiple platforms or accounts;
- independent testing with dated evidence;
- multiple user reports without reproducible detail; and
- a single complaint.
Status labels are deliberately narrow: Confirmed—investigating, Confirmed—fix announced, Confirmed—apparently fixed, Reported—unconfirmed, Rollout or A/B test, Feature request, Third-party client issue, Unable to verify, and Closed / no longer reproducible.
