Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11If OBS will not start your YouTube stream—or it starts and keeps disconnecting—first identify where the failure is. Check channel eligibility, refresh the stream key, verify YouTube’s RTMPS server details, and then separate a local encoding problem from an outbound network problem. IPv4-only can be a useful, reversible test for some connections in India, but there is no established India-wide OBS or ISP setting that fixes every case.
First identify what “not starting” means
These symptoms point to different failure points. Note whether OBS fails immediately or connects and then drops, whether YouTube Live Control Room receives a signal, and what OBS reports about frames and connection status. Change one setting at a time and record whether the result changes.
| What you see | First place to check |
|---|---|
| “Live streaming is not enabled on the selected YouTube channel” | Channel activation, verification and restrictions in YouTube Studio |
| OBS reports a startup error or YouTube receives no signal | Current stream key, server URL and RTMPS support |
| OBS connects, then reports dropped frames or intermittent disconnections | Outbound network stability and YouTube stream health |
| Preview or recording stutters, freezes or has high CPU use | Computer load, encoder settings, sources and local routing |
OBS Project explains that dropped frames or intermittent disconnections indicate “a network issue between your computer and the remote stream ingest server.” That points toward the network path, but check the local preview and encoder too: a healthy preview with poor delivery indicators suggests a different problem from a preview that is already failing.
Check YouTube channel access and activation
If this is the channel’s first live stream, YouTube says initial live-stream activation can take up to 24 hours. Verify the channel and check that it has no live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. These are account-side eligibility checks; changing OBS network settings will not clear them. See YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Refresh the key and verify the server
- Copy the current key. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and copy the stream key currently selected there. Paste it into OBS, replacing any saved or older key. Treat the key as a credential: do not publish or share it.
- Check the server URL. Use the RTMPS server URL shown in Live Control Room rather than assuming a plain RTMP address is right. Confirm that OBS is configured for RTMPS as well as the correct server. YouTube’s RTMPS help recommends using the RTMPS protocol and server; port 443 is relevant to certain SSL errors.
- Confirm RTMPS support and connection details. Google’s ingestion documentation specifies RTMPS on port 443 and requires the server hostname for SNI authentication. If you use another encoder or a plugin, confirm it supports RTMPS and does not remove the hostname. Use the URL YouTube gives you rather than improvising an endpoint.
For third-party encoder startup errors, YouTube’s guidance is to refresh the stream key and update the encoder with it. If your YouTube sign-in flow does not use a stream key, follow the software provider’s instructions instead. Sources: YouTube encoder troubleshooting and Google RTMPS ingestion documentation.
Separate encoder trouble from network trouble
Check the local output
- Watch the OBS preview and make a short local recording. If either is choppy, frozen or missing sources, investigate scenes, source routing, encoder settings and computer load before changing the ISP connection.
- Check CPU use while encoding. High load or a degraded local preview points toward the computer, sources or encoder configuration.
- Read OBS’s dropped-frame and connection indicators, then check the stream-health messages in YouTube Live Control Room. A healthy local output but poor delivery health shifts attention toward the outbound network path.
Test upload stability, not just download speed
Streaming depends on sustained outbound upload. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% headroom above the stream’s bitrate in its streaming tips. A speed-test result is only a snapshot; it does not establish that a connection will sustain that rate without fluctuations. If the upload available on the actual streaming path is inadequate or inconsistent, reduce the output bitrate or ask your ISP about the connection.

Make controlled network and encoder tests
Start with the current configuration, then change only one factor at a time. YouTube advises matching stream quality to the available connection. Its published H.264 settings are encoder recommendations, not guaranteed upload speeds for a particular household or a promise that a line can sustain a stream.
| H.264 output | YouTube listed minimum bitrate | YouTube recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p30 or 720p60 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
Use the full YouTube encoder settings table for other resolutions, frame rates and codecs. As a diagnostic starting heuristic, OBS suggests setting the bitrate to 75% of total upload speed; that is not a YouTube requirement or a guarantee of stability. If reducing bitrate improves delivery, the previous setting may have exceeded what the connection could sustain.

- Check encoder settings. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists CBR and H.264, H.265 and AV1 options. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. Use a setting supported by your encoder and stream workflow.
- Try Ethernet. A wired connection removes Wi-Fi as one possible source of instability. If it helps, investigate the wireless link rather than assuming the ISP itself is at fault.
- Check VPN and security software. Temporarily test whether a VPN, firewall or other security software is interfering with the outbound connection. Re-enable protection after the test and adjust only what is needed.
- Keep Bind to IP at Default. In OBS’s advanced network settings, leave Bind to IP at Default unless you have a specific reason to use another interface.
- Test IPv4 Only reversibly. In OBS’s advanced network settings, switch IP Family to IPv4 Only, try the stream, and compare the result with the default IPv4 and IPv6 setting. If there is no improvement, restore the default.
- Consider Windows network optimizations cautiously. OBS documents that some users report help from network optimizations and TCP pacing on Windows; they are not guaranteed fixes. Dynamic bitrate may lower quality and does not remove the underlying cause.
OBS’s connection troubleshooting guidance covers these as diagnostic options, not universal cures: OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting. YouTube also recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the intended stream before going live: YouTube encoder settings and streaming tips.
What the India-specific IPv4 advice does—and does not—show
PRISM Live Studio documents error 57998, “Failed to connect to the server,” in the context of YouTube RTMP streaming in its app. Its support note associates some cases with IPv6 transition policies and ISP infrastructure changes in certain countries, and advises users in India and Indonesia to set IP Family to IPv4 Only and enable network optimizations, then restart PRISM. This is vendor-specific advice for that app and error context. It does not establish that every OBS user in India needs IPv4, or that a particular Indian ISP blocks YouTube. OBS independently offers IPv4-only as a reversible troubleshooting option and recommends restoring the default IPv4/IPv6 setting if it makes no difference. See PRISM Live Studio support knowledge base.

When to investigate the router, cable or ISP
Do not start by buying a new router or computer. First compare wired and Wi-Fi results, check the cable and network adapter if available, and see whether a lower bitrate or a different IP-family setting changes the outcome. Restarting the modem or router is reasonable when other connectivity problems are present. OBS lists cables, network cards and routers among possible hardware faults; if the evidence points to a line or equipment issue, ask your ISP for help rather than replacing hardware without isolating a fault.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that plays uploaded videos around the clock, StreamNeo is the cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the loop running without a computer, OBS or home connection staying on; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. Each slot streams the uploaded quality as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card. The monthly price is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
